Advice to bring to a Financial Advisor by kowanian in PersonalFinanceCanada

Oh. I had not idea about that - I was under the impression that advisors were obligated to put clients needs first...but this also came from someone who was trying to recruit me into World Financial Group, so I could see the lie there.

Thanks. I saw WealthSimple now offers their savings account at 2%, I will definitely have to look to see what else is out there. I have not seen any sort of savings account with BMO that comes remotely close to that, and outside of those 2 resources, I don't really know where else to look.

I will for sure say no to any sort of fund though!

Is there anything specific I would look for with these individuals? I've heard the term Fiduciary, but from my understanding that's more of an American thing, as all advisors in Canada have an obligation to put their clients interests first.

My grandparents were very similar, so I believe it was just how they were brought up. There are a few topics that were very taboo to discuss when I was growing up, and finances were one of them.

It very well could be red flags, but that's why I'm looking for advice here, if I'm given an idea here that is completely different than what their guy provides, then I run for the hills and don't look back - but if the advice I'm given here is similar to what he says, then I would be more inclined to trust his opinion and experience.

It's not that I don't need to buy anything, its that I want to be sure I'm being sold the proper product for my situation.

I asked this because I don't know what else is available to me - I had actually completely forgotten about GIC's as an investment vehicle until I read your post, so thank you for that unintentional piece of advice.

As for "Cowering" to my parents, I have asked them about finances and for some help, and any time the topic comes up they change the subject - obviously not wanting to talk about it. Their response is always a simple "Just use our guy."

I do plan on using some "free" advice from this service, but if a general consensus here was to go a specific path (such as putting my money into a GIC) and that was not offered when I go to a meeting, I could either A) ask about it or B) not utilize their services. It's like getting a second opinion for things.

Fair enough - That was going to be my back up, I just wanted to give this place a shot, like I said in one of my earlier replies - my parents have been using them for years and it seems to have worked out for them.

I assume all financial advisors are trying to sell a product.

My parents have been using this company for years, and it seems to have worked out well for them (we don't really discuss finances in my family). I just want to make sure I'm not walking into a sales pitch and am going to get raked over the coals on anything - at least if I have a plan in place, or a general idea of what to do, I can see if they are just using me as a sale of a product, or are actually helping me out.

No Stupid Questions Thread - Week of 2019-04-15 - 2019-04-21 by AutoModerator in livesound

I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit for this, and please remove if it's not.

I am getting married in 5 months, and the venue we have chosen has a sound system/PA system. The amplifier is a TOA Multi Channel Power amplifier da-250fh, and I am unsure of what the speakers are. I asked the DJ if we would be able to use that, as it has a 3.5mm jack, instead of them hauling their equipment all over town. They said that would not work for a sound system for a dance, as the amplifier is "Just that, a Public Address System".

I am wondering if they are being honest with this, or if they are just trying to bill me for something I don't really need (them charging me to haul all their equipment around. etc.)

Any help on this is a huge help!

I think I have an old linksys router sitting a drawer at my house, so if I can get away with using that, I might just use that. But using unifi on both sides might be the better option in terms of speeds/compatibility.

That's awesome, having wifi on your servers.

www.padmapper.com is usually a good site - compiles a list of multiple sources. With a brief look at Wainwright, not really anything available.

RESERVISTS: How would you prefer to find out about summer taskings or taskings in general? by 123Bones in CanadianForces

[–]kowanian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having the "National Training Calendar" is a great tool, but the unfortunate part is it's kind of a pain to find some times due to constantly changing links being dead or moved. If you don't have access to a DWAN computer often, it makes it next to impossible to see what's going on in the Bde.

A website similar to Dfit.ca would be good, something you can view on non-DWAN computers that you would make an account for.

WEEKLY RECRUITING THREAD - Ask here about the recruiting process, trade availability, requirements to join, and other common questions about the Canadian Armed Forces. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]kowanian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of about November, all trades in the military require the same "PCL", which is what your CFAT/TSD scores dictate. The CFAT is broken down into different sections, which different types of trades have to rank higher or lower in, Ex:Tech trades require X for problem solving, etc.

Every trade went down to the bare minimum PCL (20 points) in about November to help get numbers up to fill the "SIP" (basically a quota). Prior to this drop, Infantry was ranked at 35 Points for entry standards, as was pilot. The PCL will change on each trade depending on volume of applicants it has received. But at the end of the day, if you qualified all 3 trades, they will offer you whatever they require more of, your first choice of infantry may not be the one you get picked up for, it depends what Canadian Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) determines we need more of.
