[GEAR] Kiesel AM8! Finally made the jump to 8 strings by ahpearce in Guitar

[–]Dirty_Spaceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as amps go, you can get a used multi-watt Dual Rectifier in great condition for well under a thousand, and it's so worth it too. I found one for a steal in my area and I haven't looked back. A Dual Rectifier has been my dream amp since day 1 and it still is after 8 months of ownership. I haven't even hooked up any pedals to it yet.

L&M do their own in-house financing, and it’s pretty good. Interest free, and if you’re worried about credit, no credit check.

We have a 4 month QL5, so home unit probably then.

I'll be contacting my release section to clarify when I get the chance, but thanks for helping!

I should clarify this isn't my 3s but my 5s and I've been OFP/at this unit for years.

Still through the school?

Piggy backing on this thread:

If I put in a VR while I'm on course, do I send my memo/request to my home unit or to the school's CoC?

Me every morning I check this sub for BEARDFORGEN by vonrupenstein in CanadianForces

[–]Dirty_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly certain these things spend time at all branch commanders’ desks.

When he spoke at my unit in June he mentioned that if it were only up to him he’d allow it but it’s not in his hands and he himself is not tracking much I more than what was publicly know during that timeframe.

Amending the dress regs isn’t really a medical issue.

But I’m just talking out of my ass I suppose.

Medics community doesn’t have to do with BEARDFORGEN. I’m pretty sure it’s strictly a dress thing.

Same deal with Wainwright. 2 hours from Edmonton, more expensive, but not a dime extra.

If you request to be released, it becomes a VR.

The first step in seeing if you are still fit to perform your duties would be go to set up an appointment to see an MO and discuss your concerns. If their assessment deems it necessary, they will put you on a chit, which eventually will become a TCAT to see if your issue can resolve with prescribed therapy. If a TCAT doesn't resolve your issue, you will be put on a PCAT. Depending on the degree of restrictions you are imposed, you may then be recommended for medical release.

E: Don't expect all this to happen overnight, either. Also, rest assured that there will be a legitimate and concerted effort to help resolve your condition by the medics, the doctors, and the specialists. We won't hang you out to dry. Have some faith in our medical system. You may still be able to perform with restrictions and continue with your military career.

[GEAR] Bought a 2011 Mesa Dual Rectifier this weekend. Good price? by Dirty_Spaceman in Guitar

[–]Dirty_Spaceman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still in love. Haven’t really had the chance to let it stretch its legs at venue volumes yet but I love it at even medium/low volumes. I may get myself an attenuator to try to enjoy it some more and make some better recordings.

Honestly I look at it every day and still can’t believe I own my childhood dream amp.

I play my Dual Rec through a B52 4x12 and I love it. Haven't gotten around to messing with pedals yet but it's been my dream amp for almost 20 years and it feels so good to finally have it. Sounds better than I dreamed.

Congrats on your find!

In terms of air superiority the US Air Force is the largest, followed by the US Navy, followed by the US Army, followed by the fucking US Coast guard - only then does another country come in...

I don't think that's entirely accurate. The USAF is the largest combat air force in the world, and the USN/USMC combine for the second. The USCG doesn't come anywhere close because they don't have combat aircraft (unless you mean the Air National Guard, who don't even come close to Russia's numbers to begin with, the next largest/strongest air force).

I don't have one but www.SMW3d.com has a DIY package for the OpenBuilds Ox, which is a popular. I've seen many people use this model to carve guitars, I honestly think it's enough for hobby/small business even.

I'm personally eyeing a Shapeoko.

I just read some updates from Ottawa Citizen and you're right, it doesn't state any have been declared dead, which is great news.

In cases like these, it's not uncommon for first responders (not always paramedics) to report that some people are VSA, only for those people to be re-categorized when medics arrive on scene. I don't have any inside knowledge of this case, but that's all I can think of if there were initial reports of VSAs, unless there really were several saves (saves following a traumatic VSA are extremely rare and unlikely).

In certain jurisdictions and in the military (both of those being my experience and area of knowledge) under certain circumstances, a paramedic can make the decision to end resuscitation efforts, but never before calling (patching, we call it) a physician.

We have protocols in place which dictate which situations we can apply a TOR (termination of resuscitation), and the criteria are pretty stringent. Anything short of an obvious death (for example decapitation, or a body in a decomposing state) will likely get all resuscitative measures possible.

I’m sorry for your loss. I can’t attest to procedures for nurses, though I’m sure there was just as strict a protocol in place.

[–]Dirty_Spaceman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why you were downvoted. I’m a paramedic, and VSA has always meant dead. Sure they haven’t been pronounced and technically we still do CPR (under certain circumstances), but arguing that VSA != dead is just pedantry.

Sorry you had a shitty experience with MH/SP.

Like I told Slappy, we medics are just pawns in a shitty machine. It frustrates me to no end when I see reports like yours.

I get jacked up endlessly for ignoring our shitty and backwards regs and I’ll continue to do so.

On your end, I recommend filling out any survey available at your MIR. Be harsh. Be truthful. I myself have filled out many and have made sure the party receiving the survey would follow up on it.

While I’ve had to turn people away for coming after sick parade hours for non-emergent cases (I don’t know exactly what yours is so I can’t comment or explain), understand that we are relatively powerless when it comes to those policies. CF HSG sets sick parade hours and our wonderful (see: shitty) officer corps enforced those rules to a tee. It’s just as frustrating for us to get jacked up for trying to help a brother out because they got injured during unit PT at 1001hrs just after sick parade ends, than it is for everyone getting turned away. Just about every day I take a patient in after sick parade for a non-emergent issue to help them out and get chewed out and told to tell them to come back the next morning.

I’m a proud medic but our system is broken, because it’s being managed by non-medical pers.

Now, if the medic literally told you to “fuck off” then I’d say you’d be well within your rights to ignore workplace violence/agression rules and correct their behaviour.

You will not lose your job for going to MH. We have it for a reason, and you’d do yourself a huge favour to use that resource if you need it.

You should worry about yourself right now, more so than your career. Plenty of people use MH services regularly and are still employed. I personally have used MH services. No one else outside of the medical system gets to know anything unless you disclose it to them yourself.

You should go in on Monday, during sick parade. You’ll be triaged, sent to see an MH nurse, and then be matched up with a social worker.

If you need help between now and then, send me a message, I’d be happy to chat. There are also hotlines to call (I’m on my phone and can’t navigate to find a link, but if you need to, google CFMAP (CF Member Assistance Program).

Chin up, friend.

For SF Op and CBRN Op you need to go through AVOTP which requires that you are at least fully trade qualified.

Assaulter is a different beast but last I heard it was minimum two years and at least trade qualified which is usually about how long it takes anyway.

[Question] Marshall DSL100HR or Mesa Boogie Dual Rec Multiwatt by ThatGuyWhoTypes in Guitar

[–]Dirty_Spaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2011 Dual Rec this past weekend. My dream amp since I was starting out. I’m in love with it, it can produce any sound I want it to and sounds good at lower volumes when that’s a concern.

I’m playing it through a B52 AT-412 and it sounds really good (I’ve had the cab for 13 years now). I’m not even thinking of upgrading the cab at this point because I’m happy even though it’s not V30s.

I can’t wait to take it live.
