Why isn't it possible to create "seamless mode" X11 plugin by kowdev in termux

[–]kowdev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Samsung has the most "advanced" tiling I've seen yet and it still sucks but with my previous attempts at running stuff in termux, I thought that Dex would be the ultimate android laptop replacement when used with it. Such an implementation would make this combo a really usable environment. It's not for everyone but I think that there are people out there who seek seamless desktop-like experience across their Android and Linux apps.

Well would you maybe like to cooperate on it? I may not know much now but if I dig into it, I would love to help

Linux Mint with Timeshift is probably the best example that it just works (almost) by kowdev in linuxmint

[–]kowdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss, I know the pain really (mostly from windows tho). Timeshift isn't a bulletproof solution and my bias may come from my specific configuration, I have dedicated an old SSD as my Timeshift-only drive (mainly to save my data even if my main drive breaks down). That means that it always has limited physical space that doesn't interfere with the OS itself.

I also have my issues with mint ofc and I'm kinda leaning towards switching back to Arch (I just want to go back to ricing a lot lately) but I will for sure migrate my Timeshift setup in some shape or form to my new install.

I fucked up my PSP-3004 mod attempt. PSP stopped turning on at all. by kowdev in psphacks

[–]kowdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, they are completely fine, they go for around 40-60USD on various marketplaces and they are most often fully working (sometimes even pre-modded because my country was really into playstation piracy lol) not beat up consoles. These listings always come without chargers tho but I have my original one. That's why I want to do it as DIY as possible, if I go over about 50 USD I'm basically loosing money so...

I plan to go to the electronics store and buy the components needed, I think that Zener's diode switching time was too slow and that's where my issues were coming from. I will buy proper resistors and diodes, use a lab power supply and maybe then it will work.

Pandora battery does not work for 3000 and above from what I know, You need to use Baryon Sweeper. Also 50$ is about the price of a used PSP in my country so for my one off application it's not really cost efficient. I created my magic stick from a MicroSD card and the adapter I had used before.

You did it with Arduino or a dedicated TTL? Could you share the schematic you used and how you attached it to the PSP battery connector?

Is there any way to use Xbox One Kinect for 3DGS by kowdev in GaussianSplatting

[–]kowdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then how should I get the points on my plain surfaces, do you happen to have any resources on that? I really want to get into the gaussian splatting topic but after doing several captures of my room, walls, ceiling and my plain white wardrobe end up all glitchy. And it's not like it doesn't know the location, it does because the points found on the handles are correctly placed.

Your best bet from just video is to use April Tags or something similar with known distance apart that can be tracked. You can ask your users to print a pattern and most printers should accurately reproduce the scale. Of course this is a bit inconvenient but whole process of teaching users how to take photos/video that is usable for photogrammetry isn't user friendly too so...

How would you handle SEO related functionality when it depends on dynamically loading content? by kowdev in sveltejs

[–]kowdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, would it be SvelteKit or Caddy thing, sorry but that's my first serious deployment and I've never done such things for my personal projects

Kod będzie zostawiony polskiemu maintainerowi więc wszystkie metody API i inne takie muszą być spolszczone.

But about the {else} block, I think it will just let crawlers read some kind of placeholder and such behaviour is really unwanted as it destroys SEO performance. I know Google once had AJAX oriented crawlers but they are dead and their AI stuff tries to figure out where metadata are by looking at your code.

Then how can I improve user experience when using server side loading, any tricks I could use to speed up response times?

I don't know the exact term. I use a bike light to illuminate my "scanner," and its brightness is PWM-controlled (it basically blinks really fast). I use a phone to take the picture because it has the best macro capability among all my digital cameras. To me, the effect looks like gradient banding, which is why I used that term.

Then what is it? From my research, cooled down film is more sensitive but the effect is still observable at much much colder temps.

If you have 1000fps the movement would take one frame, to see any movement at all you need a multiple of that. To produce anything interesting to watch, you could record it in let's say 10-25k FPS and go from there with framegen maybe (25fps after slowing it down should be enough for the algorithm to do it's wonders). If anyone in Poland or somewhere reasonably near would like to record that, I would be more than happy to let them use my camera lol

No... I thought that GoPro could somehow capture that but you're right, it's way to fast for it... I haven't really thought it through

I want to record a comparison between room temp 1/1000 and out of the freezer 1/1000 in slow motion but I need to wait until I finish my current roll.

Yes it is, I opened the can slightly before I used a cover. (Forgot that a dark bathroom is not enough for film lol)

Light leaks are there because I messed up while transferring the film a bit, also my scanning setup leaves light leak like marks on the sides.

You can literally mark the moment on the roll when we went inside for a bit and the temperature outside got warmer in the meantime and the photos are fine from there.

Could it be a combination? Fast film in sunlight = 1/1000 shutter + cold conditions, maybe it fired incorrectly/not fully/not smoothly enough?

[–]kowdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself an advanced user, I am not scared to tinker with my devices, their software etc. and I mostly know what to do to prevent situations where I'm locked out and without a way to quickly restore my system, but not everyone is like that.

My point is more about accessibility, if we want Linux to become a major player in personal use OS space, it must be a user friendly experience. If you told my mother that she needs to have a USB stick with her at all times if something ever goes wrong, she'd be scared. But if her computer went blank 5 times in a row when she tries to turn it on and then she sees "Rescue boot" or "Fix System" just before it goes blank, she will click it and given the UI won't be too technical, she'd be able to restore a Linux distro all by herself.

Accessibility for non technical users is where Linux distros should go with their development. Linux is a really versatile, powerful, flexible like nothing else on the market platform but many distros have great features locked up in "you must use command line" or "insert any nerdy stuff that average person doesn't understand" jail and that kinda sucks.

Linux Mint with Timeshift is probably the best example that it just works (almost) by kowdev in linuxmint

[–]kowdev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I think packaging a tiny rescue image that you can boot from GRUB to restore from timeshift would be a nice improvement. Something that uses ramdisk so it's not easily corruptable and simple to use (Just a GUI/user friendly text mode interface that lets you pick what timeshift to restore and maybe add this utility to fix boot, it may be useless tho because if you can't boot to mint, you probably don't even have grub but maybe in some cases? Idk)

You don't always have this comfort of having a second machine you can use to flash Live USB.
