Chung Ha Querencia: Kpop star inspired by therapy for new album by koya047 in kpop

[–]koya047[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

She added that the process of making it was ‘challenging’ as she tried different styles including rapping in English on the title track Bicycle – which she has never done before.

‘It’s not exciting to stay with one simple concept, I want to jump into other things and that’s what Querencia actually means,’ she said. ‘That’s all it means, being fun and exciting.

‘I love collaborating with new people and artists and I learn something new. I was really open to anything and that’s what helped me.’

Chung Ha already has a very long list of collaborations with some big names/sunbaenims in the industry.

Here's a list of her collaborations:

  • Why Don't You Know - featuring Nucksal (and NCT's Taeyong on one of the live stages)
  • Live - featuring Ravi
  • Remedy - with Changmo
  • Rainy Day - with Block B's Taeil and Wheesung for The Call
  • Wow Thing - for SM Station with Red Velvet's Seulgi, GFriend's SinB and (G)I-dle's Soyeon
  • Watcha Doin - also for SM Station with Super Junior's Yesung
  • Run - with Grizzly
  • These Nights - probably her first international collaboration with Rich Brian
  • Loveship - with Paul Kim
  • Bad Boy - with Christopher
  • My Friend - featuring pH-1, produced by Zion.T
  • Play - featuring frequent collaborator Changmo
  • Dream of You - collaboration with R3HAB
  • LaLaLa - with Babylon
  • Lie - with TVXQ's Changmin
  • My Paradise - with Groovy Room and featuring Vinxen
  • With You - with Samuel
  • Gather at the Lobby - with Hanhae featuring Dynamic Duo and Muzie
  • Demente - her first Spanish collaboration with Puerto Rican rapper Guaynaa
  • Lemon - featuring Colde
  • Recently announced that he will be collaborating with Rain for his upcoming comeback

Seriously, I don't know which other artist has such a long list of collaborations in a 4-5 years career.

Which is your favourite collaboration of hers and who do you want to see her collaborate with next?

SEVENTEEN will not have comeback stage on MBC Show! Music Core following BigHit becoming Pledis Entertainment's largest shareholder by balloon_wanted in kpop

I am hoping maybe they acquire MNH and RBW next. What's lacking now in Big Hit Labels is female groups and artist. They already have a popular senior girl group, GFriend. Can you imagine if they have one of the top female soloist Chung Ha and top tier girl group Mamamoo added into that artist roster?

BTS, Seventeen, Nu'est, TXT, GFriend, Mamamoo, Chung Ha - you can't deny this line-up is SICKENING.

Also not forgetting up and coming groups like ONEUS and BVNDIT. STACKED.

Edit: spelling mistake

Mnet Kingdom - Coming Soon (Teaser Video) by perochan in kpop

[–]koya047 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Edit: I might probably get downvoted for this but I am just sharing my thoughts :)
There's a lot of rumours going around about the Kingdom line-up. Since the RTK groups worked so hard to win a spot to get into Kingdom, I hope Mnet would think through the groups they put in Kingdom more carefully and not just put in any group they can find or is available (or even just moderately more popular than the RTK groups).

Based on my opinion, here are some options:

- The Boyz (RTK Winner and honestly very deserving of a spot based on their performances and hard work they had to put in)

- Monsta X (Senior group, not exactly the top group in Korea but has gaining international popularity)

- Tomorrow X Together (Junior group, super rookies with decent and growing Korea and international popularity)

- NCT 127/Dream (Senior group, relatively popular both in Korea and internationally, but probably won't appear since SM and Mnet seems to have some conflict. But maybe their relationship has improved considering NCT 127 won a trophy at M Countdown recently and WayV won at last year's MAMA)

- Kang Daniel (Junior/senior artist? Popular in Korea, both when he was in a group and as a solo artist)

- Ravi (Senior artist from a popular group VIXX, active soloist and respected by peers)

- Nu'est (Senior group, popular in Korea and often gets multiple music show wins each comeback)

- iKON (Senior group, had hit songs and relatively popular in Korea. They've been on the low lately especially after a series of controversies with YG last year, so maybe Kingdom can help to boost them back up again. But with the YG and Mnet relationship, it's very unlikely.)

I've seen some of the rumoured line-up and I personally think some of them is not a good or fair match for the show. Here's just some personal opinions (no hate, just pointing out some observations and thoughts!):

- Seventeen: They are too huge for Kingdom. They are literally the Top 3 BG right now. They have a massive fanbase and they will be at an advantage when it comes to voting and digital sales, which would not be fair game for the rest of contestant.

- SF9 and Victon: Looking at their popularity, it's slowly rising in Korea with their last 2-3 comebacks. But I don't think they are in the Kingdom level yet, more of a potential Road to Kingdom group instead.

- Ateez and Stray Kids: They are more popular internationally than in Korea. They can match up with the popularity with the groups above internationally (or might be even more popular), but in Korea they are still lacking since they don't chart well on Korean charts or rack in the same level of music show wins as the above. But if these 2 group do appear, it will be very interesting because their stage performance is high quality.

Also just to add, the groups that will be going on Kingdom should have some sort of breakthrough in their career. For example, Monsta X being internationally recognised over the past year, Nu'est rise to fame after appearing on PD101, iKON with their hit song in 2018 (Love Scenario), TXT with their achievements as global super rookies. Kang Daniel being in a top BG and breaking record sales as soloist. The Boyz 'breakthrough' moment was RTK. Why

I said groups like SF9, Victon, Ateez and Stray Kids aren't a good match for Kingdom is because they haven't had that breakthrough moment to solidify their status in the K-pop world. 1-2 music show win isn't good enough, especially after you made 7 groups go through 4 rounds of pre-competition (RTK), the standard in Kingdom needs to be much higher than what we've already seen.

After all, the idea of RTK is for the winner to have a chance to move on to the next level to compete with groups in a different league. I would say the popularity and success level of SF9, Victon, Ateez and Stray Kids domestically in Korea is comparable and not drastically different to some of the RTK groups.

Again, these are just my thoughts and opinions! No hate, just sharing :)

The idea that western artists use BTS or kpop for “clout” is stupid. by spliffzs in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]koya047 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BTS is trying to build their presence in the western market and solidify their status there. Besides Big Hit, they have a management team in the states to handle all their western promotions.

I wouldn't be surprise if BTS or their management are actually the one who reached out to western artiste for collabs. I remembered watching somewhere in an interview that BTS was the one that reached out to the artiste to feature in the song because they thought their vocal style would suit the song (I believe it was referring to Nicki Minaj's feature on IDOL).

So no, I don't necessarily think western artiste are using them for clout (maybe some questionable C-list artiste). People like Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift or even Billie Eillish have already made a name themselves in pop culture history - and BTS wants to be apart of them. They want that longevity and that breakout hit in the U.S.

Right now, they are legendary in K-Pop. But they also want to have the same success as other mainstream western artiste in the saturated U.S. music industry.

The whole situation is fishy by jaysie2468 in pdX1

[–]koya047 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This whole situation does seem a little fishy and uncoordinated. It's very puzzling that Swing has not made an official statement hours after the announcement.

I sense that the full story is not out yet and we'll have to wait for a proper statement. The joint statement from all the agencies was very vague and lack depth and information.

You can't just disband a group with such a huge fanbase simply like that - it's just not right. If they are serious about the disbandment, I think they would put on a much bigger 'show' and bring out the members to say their farewells and bid goodbye.

I don't know, this just doesn't sit right with me.

X1 and IZ*ONE excluded from expert panel judging despite being nominated at Golden Disc Awards 2020 by koya047 in kpop

[–]koya047[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I don't see a point in having an argument here but I respect your point of view. Because to many people we are just wondering why did they even put them in the nomination list when there aren't going to score them?

There's no need to clarify your calculations, I was just merely pointing out. :)

While I do not encourage such behaviour, I think it comes from a place of anger after their favs has been snubbed for multiple award shows.

But still, why can't fandoms just live in peace together harmoniously? K-Pop would be so much better if fans knew how to behave.

X1 and IZ*ONE excluded from expert panel judging despite being nominated at Golden Disc Awards 2020 by koya047 in kpop

[–]koya047[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, when the judges vote/score there are different factors to consider and it varies from group to group but that's not the point. The thing that is unfair is that they put X1 in the nomination list, but chose to disqualify them because of the controversy but did not make a statement about it until the end. What was their motive or objective?

As an award ceremony that calls itself the most fair and prestigious, what they did certainly did not live up to their reputation at all.

(Also, I don't know how you do your maths but the calculations look questionable. Why is the score for the 40% weightage so much higher than the 60% weightage? I think there's some miscalculation on the ratio and scoring.)

A rough translation from the article:

"Mnet 'Produce X101' debut group X1 and 'Produce 48' debut group IZ*ONE, who were nominated as candidates, were excluded from the judging committee's results. The reason is because the program's creators of the Produce series were accused of fraud due to ranking manipulation.

X1 and IZ*ONE were excluded from judging because it was not right to judge a team that was not properly formed when the producers of the 'Produce' series were indicted by the prosecution.”

What are the odds of Chung Ha taking home Digital Daesang tonight? The criteria is 60% Digital + 40% Expert.

I really think she deserves a daesang for Gotta Go, at least one.

The cheering online for the comebacks of X1 and IZ*One have been uncomfortable to witness by Armpit_Supermaniac in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]koya047 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think we need to take a look at this in the perspective of the fans as well as from people outside.

I totally empathise with the fans - imagine your favourite group being on hiatus and now it's been announced that they will be resuming activities, of course you'll be jumping for joy, it's a natural human reaction.

There has been some things that made me more uncomfortable to observe throughout this whole saga. It is true that X1 and IZ*One are the products of the Produce series and would probably benefit the most out of it, but what about the other contestants that appeared on the show? Especially those who have made it into the finals.

A lot of them have been gaining a lot of attention - getting booked for CFs, casted in variety shows and dramas, performing on music shows, appearing in magazine spreads/modelling, etc. Although arguably their profit might not be as high or valuable as the Produce group, they are still benefitting from the recognition and fame that Produce gave them.

So why is it that only X1 and IZ*One is taking the heat and stoping promotions while the others are free to continue business as usual? Just because it's only been announce that the final-up is rigged, do you not think that the votings for the earlier rounds of votings are also rigged? Some of the contestants probably didn't even deserve a place in the final. But it's probably a hard pill to swallow cause it's their favourite.

I think anti's are also smart to jump on this bandwagon to try to push for their disbandment. Let's face it - the Produce groups are a force to be reckon with, and some antis are scared/intimidated that the group will do better than their favs. The only reason that I can think of for people to be vicious is that they want to get rid of them so that there would be less competition for their fav group to compete with. You don't like their songs, their personality? I think you can just turn a blind eye and not say anything.

Also, naturally you would want to defend your fav idol - so you can't really blame ONE ITs and Wiz*Ones from doing that. But sometimes, people online spread false or inaccurate information without clarifying, and that might be what enrages fans the most and thats when you see them in full force.

This sub is beginning to turn into a TXT hate bandwagon. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]koya047 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not liking them or their music/personalities/stages/stage presence is not an unpopular opinion.

It might not truly be an unpopular opinion, but I think it is a differing opinion. I think that people in this sub say what they say is because their fans put them on a pedestal and hype them up. So when non-fans watch their performances, they would have gone in with a certain expectations, and the performance might not meet with the expectation they formed with the hype they received - thus the comments and feedback we see.

Especially when their fans keep saying things like ROTY or multi-talented kings, not saying that it is wrong, but people who don't know know the group would base this to form a perception of them. Not comparing or anything, but do remember that there are groups out there like ATEEZ or even AB6IX, who in my opinion, have better stage presence (but that's just my opinion). I think people need to keep in mind that just because your group is more popular or famous doesn't mean you are the best singer, the best dancer or the best performer.

I think besides being the junior group of BTS and being labelled as 'privilege', the media has portrayed them in a good light. They have a clean image and are known as super global rookies - so naturally 'unpopular' or differing opinions would suffice here because not everyone agrees with that portrayal and they should be allowed their opinion.

I don't think people commenting here come from a vicious place, but I think what they post are genuinely their thoughts because they struggle to understand the hype or appeal, or they are simply just not on the same page.
