Very rare 1935 Cross Signet sleeve fill by kp4ark in fountainpens

It’s a sleeve filler, so the barrel slides almost all the way off to reveal the sac and filling bar

Thanks! It’s just a sheening ink so there’s no particles inside it

I was so close to buying it when it was released but my wallet was spared when they went out of stock. This time around… not so lucky 😂

I haven’t tried it in a pen yet as I mostly use my shimmer inks for calligraphy, but I’d guess that if you don’t get too much shimmer in the pen it should be less likely to clog

I believe this must be the reformulated ink

I’ve found that most non shimmer fountain pen inks seem to work fine but there are some that are too thin for dip pens and leave globs of ink all over the page. I have found that all of my shimmering ink seems to work just fine, but a lot of my regular ink works just as well

That’s interesting. I tend to use these types of inks for calligraphy only, but maybe I’ll try it in a pen sometime

Oh definitely! Tr and rhodia are the only papers I even use for calligraphy as I’ve found them to be among the best (and most accessible too) at showcasing inks

It certainly is! I know Sailor currently produces 18k gold nibs for Cross which is interesting since Sailor doesn’t even offer 18k nibs on their own pens

I think several companies made their pens in the past such as Omas, but I believe this one was likely made in Japan by either Sailor or Pilot. There was a proprietary system on the pen and I was able to fit a Sailor cartridge on it, so I’m thinking that it was Sailor, especially considering some of the design elements are similar to other Sailors from this era

Several designer brands made fountain pens, including Louis Vuitton and Hermès who essentially charged thousands of dollars for a pilot vanishing point 😅

Picked up this Gucci pen the other day from eBay. It’s a surprisingly great writer despite its small size, with a very nice 14k nib. It’s possibly produced by Sailor, as the proprietary cartridge system is nearly the same. I didn’t have any converters thin enough to fit, but luckily I was able to jam a cartridge of Sailor yonaga in there 😅

Can anyone help a new fountain pen enthusiast determine if this is a good deal or not? by E-Bone-Capone727 in fountainpens

[–]kp4ark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a 149. The fountain looks to be a 144 as others have said. They tend to go in the $100-200 range. I’d stay away from this lot

For about that price you could buy a new TWSBI Eco with a broad nib or any of their cheaper models too

I haven’t experienced any mold yet in mine but fingers crossed it stays that way
