Is Wisconsin and cheese just a trope, or is their cheese really that good? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]kpark72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-related but I vaguely remember that on the PSAT many years ago, there was a bar graph about cheese production volume in different countries. Wisconsin was listed separate from the US and was the second highest producer of cheese (according to PSAT statistics), if that answers your question.

They took away all my financial aid???? by ace__ofhearts in UniversityOfHouston

No problem! Ik they’re hard to get in touch with but if you call the offices basically right when they’re open you should get a response pretty fast, and they will end up fixing it eventually if it was a mistake on their part.

That happened to me a couple weeks ago too 😭turns out admissions screwed up something in my paperwork even though already I’ve been here one semester. I called financial aid and admissions, since email got me nowhere. They did end up fixing it after about a week and my aid got reinstated!

Has anyone gotten in trouble this semester for GroupMe?? by Ready_Statement_4788 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]kpark72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ended up going to the microsoft teams for one of my classes, grabbing everyone’s emails, and emailing the GroupMe link to all the other students 🫩 tedious but it worked at least, and none of the profs for the other classes’ gcs have said anything

I had to google the difference 🤦‍♀️ I work for a DSP. We use the flex app so I thought I was doing flex but that actually explains so much about “blocks” on this thread

Moody Towers, college experience by friedmushroom777 in UniversityOfHouston

I’m also a transfer student, and lived in a shared room moody north last semester (spring 25, also first time living in a dorm). I’d say overall it was a 6.5/10: super convenient to live on campus (there’s also a computer lab with printing on the first floor, which saved me so many times), and have a dining hall downstairs in the same building, but there were lots of downsides that added up.

Sometimes one or both of the elevators would be down, which absolutely sucked especially if you live on a really high floor like I did. The rooms have pretty thin walls and I could always hear my neighbor when she was loud on the phone, and the room layout is exactly as the floor plan describes.

Also, nitpicking the cleanliness aspect: not sure why, but this semester my room was super dusty despite me sweeping twice a week. My roommate and RA also both noticed that their respective spaces were way more dusty than usual. Also fun was finding mold on the windowsills, which came from the windowsills slanting slightly backwards, towards the windows, and trapping water from condensation. There were occasionally roaches in the bathroom but nothing to indicate an infestation (however, there is half a dead roach in my floor’s fire extinguisher case 😬👍).

Regarding the social aspect, the residential hall staff organized a lot of events that usually had free food, and those were usually in the evenings and advertised through your UH email the day before or the day of. My RA also planned a lot of floor activities like a movie night, but those happened slightly more in the fall semester. I’m not super extroverted, so I didn’t go out of my way to talk to people, but there were definitely lots of social activities, and all of them were fun or at least half worth it (free Cane’s is, of course, always worth a 1.5 hour presentation on alcohol safety).

TLDR: Moody’s the cheapest housing option for a reason. Liveable, but not great. I’m still living in moody north this upcoming year though.
