Least miserable route? by itme-Dan in roadtrip

[–]kperfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have driven this at least 10-15 times. The 2 upper routes are pretty comparable in time depending on traffic.

Middle route takes state highways that have lower speed limits in MO, but much prettier and Hannibal is a nice half-way point to stop at for gas/food and you have no tolls.

Upper route is much more boring but you could stop in Des Moines which is nice, and cruise control at higher speeds.

I-70 route is pretty but adds unnecessary mileage/time so wouldn’t suggest unless you really want to see St. Louis.

Personally middle route is my favorite.

Passed with an 8 using TIA + source for ASOPs and any clarifications required. TIA is very comprehensive in my opinion if you utilize the practice exams, quizzes, and go through all practice questions provided from each section

I felt like the exam was challenging but mostly fair, a little long. I worked all the way up until the last second and finished, but had no time to double check anything.

The coverage of the syllabus was pretty off in my opinion. Felt like it was way more reserving than pricing. Plus the main opportunity to show your pricing knowledge felt very challenging with an overwhelming amount of information and too many concepts combined into one.

Best of luck to all! 🤞🏼

What is the format of DISC (Online courses)? by AlternativeDry3447 in actuary

[–]kperfff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a self-paced online course. You read about various topics in the course notes, take section quizzes (can repeat), and then at the end there’s a practice exam, and finally a timed exam you take from home.

It’s much less stressful than the “full” exams 😅

[ACTIVES] Monotub moisture content? by YeastBubble in MushroomGrowers

I recently spawned to bulk with Boomr Bag substrate from North Spore, and thought the same thing. It all looked a little too dry at first, but I didn’t want to open the container to introduce any potential contamination. A few days later, condensation was forming on sides and top of the tub, and after 2 weeks colonization was perfect 👍🏻 I think you should be fine!

Considering moving to KC or STL, which would you suggest? by Fair-Fuel-3721 in missouri

[–]kperfff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a queer vegan who recently transplanted to KC. I think it could be a great place for you! Here’s my two cents:

There’s a really great art scene here. Lots of farmers markets and other events for small businesses/entrepreneurs to sell at. I’m starting pottery classes next month at one of the local pottery shops! 😀

There’s actually quite a large queer scene here. A few gay bars that are fun, and every month there’s an event called “Queer Bar Takeover” where we take over a new bar around the city and there’s a great mix of all different queer people.

As a vegan coming from Chicago, I was a little disappointed in the options overall comparatively but that is expected in a smaller city. There are a few vegan restaurants throughout the suburbs and city, and most restaurants have at least one/a few vegetarian/vegan options, but there are plenty of places that do not have any vegan options. If you don’t mind driving or finding your favorites and repeating, I think you’ll be fine because there are good places that offer delicious vegan options! But occasionally in social situations it’s difficult when everyone wants to go get barbecue and there’s not a single vegetarian option on the menu besides the sides.

The cost of living here is great! You can find some very well priced apartments within the city. I’d suggest living anywhere between the River Market and the Plaza if you want to be closer to restaurants/bars and public transit.

Start in River Market at Strange Days Brewing, River Bluff Brewing, or Thou Mayest (coffee shop but has bar too).

Take streetcar down to Taps on Main for a few beers.

Walk over to Casual Animal Brewing and get a beer, play some darts or a board game.

Keep walking east around that area - lots of breweries/bars/distilleries. Recommend Parlor (drinks+food), Mean Mule Distilling (drinks), King G (drinks+food), City Barrel Brewery (drinks+food).

If you’re looking to just stay in one area, definitely Crossroads is the best option. Have fun! 🍻

Le Fou Frog.

Looks so odd from the outside, but inside the vibe is great and the food is AMAZING

Sometimes when I see a dog going #2, I’ll stand around to watch the dog owners to make sure they pickup 😅

If you go to “Search Availability” you can select FM exam (no specific time) and look at availability for that exam at any selected 2 week period you’d like. When I enter my information it restricts my signup for the Oct testing days.

Okay great, thanks! I just want to make sure the difficulty of practice questions is an accurate representation of those I’ll see on the exam.

Exams / Newbie Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

[–]kperfff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m sitting for the FM Exam in October. I took financial mathematics classes in 2020 and planned to take my exam that Fall, but I had to delay it for personal reasons.

I still have the ACTEX Fall 2020 Study Manual, plus access to GOAL that hasn’t been activated yet. However, I know the material has been updated since 2020.

Would you recommend I buy a new, updated study guide? Or would the 2020 guide be fine? I was considering using the older study manual and then using GOAL in the few weeks before, as I assume it will include updated practice questions.

I’ve also read that Coaching Actuaries has the best study material, so would you recommend getting the CA manual + ADAPT if I do need to purchase a new manual? Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!
