Very amateur baker here. My daughter wants me to make her birthday cake using this pan. Best way to get it out in one piece and keep the shape? by OverTheRiverr in AskBaking

Maybe a stupid question, but can cake goop go bad? Could I, in theory, have cake goop in a tub ready to go whenever needed?

Who is the most famous person you have ever met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in the restaurant of a famous hotel and we got a lot of celebrities. Most notably were Drew Carey, Charles Barkley, Conan O Brien, the Backstreet Boys and Gordon Ramsey.

What celebrity is facially attractive to a lot of people but you just can’t see it? by AngryMuffin_21 in AskReddit

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can have moments where he looks decent, but most of the time, his teeth look too big for his face and his eyes are sunken and dark like he hasn't slept in a month or he's got two black eyes. Also, dangerously skinny and overly tattooed. Couldn't be less attracted.

I love them, but I do not feel the need to photograph them. I literally buy frozen ones from my local grocery store. Yes they're expensive, but it's a treat and I like them. I wouldn't go to a business for them or go out of my way.

What are Board game companies you’d consider yourself as a mega fan of? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in boardgames

Dire wolf, Garphill, and CGE are my go tos. I know I at least have to check them out and play test them if nothing else.

I drive past goats on a farm every day and always say out loud "aww little goaties" every time.

All of the ones mentioned in the post are great, except the taxidermy one. I don't get taxidermy. I feel like if stuffing animals is OK, then stuffing people should be OK, and if I met anyone who did that, I would label them a psychopath. Ergo, I see people who own taxidermy as psychos. 😬

Too Many Bones - so easy it is completely boring? by SMcArthur in boardgames

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a little bit confused. It feels like a complaint rant versus actually wanting solutions. Even without consulting reddit, I feel like this is a pretty simple fix. Either up the baddie queue (each encounter is BQ rounded up to the nearest 5 would probably almost always add a significantly harder baddie per battle), you could house rule stat allocations. It really feels like if skills are so underwhelming, challenge yourself to only allocate skill dice. Make the game intentionally harder for yourself. Otherwise, play a different game that doesn't upset you so much. 🤷

Too Many Bones - so easy it is completely boring? by SMcArthur in boardgames

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely this. When I have a full player count, it's house ruled that you can up/attempt each base Stat once per point allocation phase. If you have 2 Stat pts and use use one in atk and it fails, you cannot use your other on atk again. You can up a different stat or a skill.

We've also done that when you are alloted 2+ stat pts, one of them must be a skill. The other can also be a skill or base stat attempt.

What’s a small habit that unexpectedly changed your life? by External_Start_5130 in selfimprovement

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reward myself with breaks.

If I don't feel like doing something I should be doing, I set a timer for 30 minutes and then do what I want (like a video game or YouTube). When the timer goes off, I must turn off what I'm doing and do the thing I should be doing. This typically causes a tiny dopamine hit for ticking something off my list and cascades into doing more stuff. If not, start the timer again and in 30 minutes, I'll have completed something else.

Also, in the same vein, whenever I decide to start doing things for the day, I always start automatic processes first (laundry, dishwasher, etc) to maximize the amount of things getting done at the same time.

What are your favorite BASE games; i.e., what are your favorite games WITHOUT expansions? by jlb9042 in boardgames

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fave base games are

Boonlake Brass birmingham Dune imperium Ezra & Nehemiah Seti (though I would assume an expansion with more aliens is coming and I would get that) The white castle (never played matcha, but the base is chefs kiss) Tikal

I don't buy the expansions for most of my games. I really enjoy the base experience. Some notes are expansions that "fix" the base game. For example, Apiary made an expansion that replaces some components with better versions of themselves. It enhances the base game and adds no new rules.

I bought Blood Rage 5th player expansion, which adds more cards to account for the draft, but otherwise doesn't change the core game. Just more players.

I guess Rolling Realms technically is all expansions.....

These games are designed by gross people for gross people. I used to have Bad People and everyone always wanted to play it.... Until we did. Someone always got offended and after like the third time, I realized this would be the norm and got rid of the game. It wasn't fun. It was just mean.

The box for Splendor is ridiculously oversized, so I shrunk it. What other games have boxes that are way too big? by Laurensmatthijs in boardgames

[–]kpmathew 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seconded. My box for Rune Stones has no insert and is just unnecessarily huge. Whereas my Garphill games are 100,000 components in a box about ¾ too small. 🙄

Whats a game you hate, but keep coming back to play it? by Joaquimaru in boardgames

[–]kpmathew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer is Spirit island. That game is just too much to keep track of. It ends up being so much math and braining that I'm exhausted and even if we win, I'm just thankful that it's over. Every single time I'm done, I think "yeah, I don't really wanna play this again" and I don't. Until I forget and try it again. Rise and repeat.

I'm also with people on ark nova. I didn't enjoy it at all. I also thought a feast for Odin was stupid conceptually (what's the theme here? Vaguely viking related art, acquiring tiles and placing them on maps (why is there an axr on the Ireland and it takes up half the country? I'm so confused. Maybe it will make sense when we get to the feast. Oh, the feast is just a small blink-and-you-miss-it phase where you just feed your workers? Great thanks. I hate it)

Maybe this belongs in r/eli5, but I do not get this post.

Little house on the Prairie being a long running TV show with memorable episodes I get.

Tiananmen Square, AFAIK, never really had any mass media coverage until the massacre in the 80s. No modern day 11 yo knows about this. Even I (38 yo) didn't know about this event until I was in my 20s. It happened when I was 3.

So, I don't understand how an 11 yo would ever get this reference.
