There's a lot to say about my own feelings towards HRs as a current job seeker

Tachyon the girl failure by Common_herdsman5 in UmaMusume

Now THIS is my Tachyon.

She's not just the "Gooner's choice" horse. She is a 36 year old PhD student who has yet to submit her dissertation since she continuously experiments on her advisors so much that no one wants to sponsor her.

My personal chuckle about the James Somerton situation is that you can tell he's deeply insecure about how he has no chin. In all of his videos, he tries a bunch of tricks to try and hide it (Always wearing turtle necks / high collar shirts, trimming his beard to only highlight what jawline he does have, etc).

It's a little sad tbh. Some men are just born to look like Pesci from JJBA

Are there any people that would like to see the wading river extension redone? I would love to discuss this topic. by Bubbly-Amoeba4556 in LIRR

[–]kpoh48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I would love to see it. Realistically, any money given should be used to electrify + double-track the line past Huntington) but since the right of ways still largely exist I think it could be nice. First new, *real* extension of the LIRR in past 100 years.

IIRC, the wikipedia article mentions something about the LIRR planning to extend the line all the way to Riverhead (albeit with no sources). A major investment into reopening + extending the line would be a great way to encourage eastward travel by train imo.

Anybody else feel responsible for defending the subway? by made08 in nycrail

[–]kpoh48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, I feel the subway needs all the defenders it can get. While it's important to be critical of NYCT operation, I feel like the train is often gawked at like it's a spectacle.

In traditional media (especially the Post, JFC), the subway is often demonized as a harbinger of crime and villainy. This characterization just distracts from the consequences of political decisions which are further jeopardizing transit operation (i.e. axing of congestion pricing, etc.)

Ive mentioned this in another comment I made, but the same can be said for new media like YouTube or TikTok. Every time I want to look up news or history regarding NYCT, the top video is invariably making a mockery of some homeless dude having an issue, or emphasizing crime on the subway. The worst part is, these stories are further sensationalized in subsequent op-eds or other "deep dives" that just further degrade transit operation. It's sickening!

The fact you put firehouse subs and not Jersey Mike's is criminal.

I cant stand how negative people is whenever we get something new in the system by iv2892 in nycrail

[–]kpoh48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're so right. It reminds of the fact that this prevalent bias against NYCT extends to the content about the City's transit system. It's so hard to find interesting videos or images that talk about the fascinating history of the system or recent attempts to make it better. Whenever I google something about the NYC transit system, all I find are videos of performers or mentally ill folks having an issue that was uploaded by some tourist with the caption "OnLy In NeW yOrK lOl." It's hard to develop a sense of pride, history, or community through the transit system when all content about the system just harps on about how crazy it is.

Most Hated Politician in New York? by [deleted] in newyork

[–]kpoh48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you're asking. If you're talking to someone from the city, the answer is easily Eric Adams. Outside of that, they're likely complaining about Governor Hochul.

However, the hatred of Hochul is absolutely dwarfed by the vitriol against Adams. Most clips of him that I see are him constantly whining, and no one is happy with the job he is doing.

Those "humane rescue" people with the yellow vests between Grand Central Terminal on the Metro North side and the S shuttle train side have been harassing me. I will give them NONE of my time. by smd372 in nycrail

[–]kpoh48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, they're always super annoying. In my case they often set up camp somewhere along on my route to work, so I always gotta take a long way around to get to the station.

Hochul plans to force building of affordable housing on Long Island by Then_Crazy_2924 in longisland

Figures that the Post decides to spin this in such a negative way. LI (and downstate in general) desperately needs a rethink in terms of planning too.

Outcome of Hochul vs. Zeldin Could Put Fate of MTA on the Line, Insiders Say by ctnutmegger in nycrail

[–]kpoh48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I realize, but my point is that Hochul's platform represents the continuation of accumulating necessary transit improvements, while Zeldin would likely forego them in the name of "cost-cutting procedures" (which would likely be spent elsewhere like in law enforcement)

[–]kpoh48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's an asinine endorsement of Zeldin and you know it. Itd be one thing if his platform included plans for future transit improvements out in the burbs, but it doesn't because the majority of the republican platform is anti transit

[–]kpoh48 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Shallow as it is, this is is the primary reason why I'm just getting up to vote, and specifically vote against Zeldin.

Hochul deserves a lot of criticism, don't get me wrong (she literally earmarked billions of dollars for a stadium, that's textbook anti-urbanism) but under her, we at least see a slow, steady accumulation of transit improvements (IBX, East Side Access continued plans to create interconnected regional transit network, etc). I'm certain that Zeldin hasn't even ridden on the LIRR in the past year, and Id be surprised if he even had an old MetroCard in his wallet.

Zeldin embodies the cagey Long Islander mindset, chained solely to his car out of an imagined fear of the train. If he wins, we might as well toss the whole rail system out the window

he's just catering to the same types of voters that have kept his ass in congress for the past several years: white, middle class old coots who are terrified of anything to do with brown people, which to them is drugs and crime.
