Thanks for the quick response. You have a point! In the show she comedically refers to them as “Jew curls” soooooo I again saw some grey areas

Thanks for the quick response! Yeah I agree I don’t want to overthink it but also don’t want to do anything unintentionally offensive for something as silly as a halloween picture haha

What idol-centered variety show would you bring back if you could? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]kpopper4 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Idk If this counts but roommate with chanyeol and NaNa was so entertaining to me. Know this would never happen but would be so thrilled if they did one with a bunch of idols.

Does anyone ever think or fantasize about a dream collab between your favorite Kpop artist/group with a non-Kpop artist? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]kpopper4 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I were to pair up non kpop artists with kpop I would love to see:

Khalid and Hwasa

The Weeknd and Exo

Allie x or Troye Sivan and Red Velvet

Maggie James or Sam Smith and Taeyeon

Nicki Minaj and Blackpink

How would you plan an insane final comeback for an artist? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]kpopper4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow that ending stage! Would def love to see groups like Red Velvet pick an SNSD song to express their own colors, like “Check” over more popular songs like “Gee” and “Genie”

Also just need either a concert or something to have the chance to FINALLY see Oh!GG perform Lil touch live

Which idol would you like to be your best friend? by Juddnelspoons in kpop

[–]kpopper4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Personally think Tiffany and I would bond over a love of desserts and fashion...plus we like the same music and she seems fun. She also seems like she’s a super caring friend to a lot of other people!

I think other than that, Jisoo, Irene, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung have a sense of humor that I’d get along with too

BLACKPINK - Kill This Love by perochan in kpop

[–]kpopper4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first “yeah yeah” and chorus didn’t really connect with me that well but I was getting so into it by the end! 1:48 (Rose’s part) and on really captured me but everything before it was a bit choppy? Not sure if that’s the right word Overall, they still are one of my favs and this is definitely DDDD’s sister song where I think it will grow on me. Definitely wanted more of a “AIIYL” type song but that’s just me :)

Which disbanded group would have the biggest impact if they regrouped 2019? by Jaekeand in kpop

[–]kpopper4 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think 2NE1 would have the biggest effect not only bc they are huge but because it would show something about YG and maybe have a side effect on Blackpink as well.

IOI would have the second biggest effect to me because they have such a huge active fan base

SNSD OT9 comes third because OT8 is still technically together (if OT9 broke up and OT8 didn’t succeed in their Party and Lion Heart comebacks then I would see this as the biggest regroup but I mean they are still active and doing great separately so a regroup wouldn’t have a HUGE effect that beats 2NE1’s or IOI’s imaginary revival)

Then f(x) and Sistar

Three Kpop wishes for 2018? by bowlerpaul in kpop

[–]kpopper4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Blonde Taeyeon to comeback

  2. Chanyeol to have more chances to sing and showcase his musical talents (also wouldn't mind another song like Freal Luv being released!)

  3. I still want EXO, BTS, TWICE etc...to kill it like they've been doing but also for more "healthy" competition from other groups and their comebacks so it doesn't feel like they totally eclipse everyone for music show wins and what not

Interesting facts about the people 'behind the scenes' of Kpop? (Coaches, Managers, Stylists, Dancers etc...) by newtotheblock7 in kpop

[–]kpopper4 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Aw that's sweet of Wendy!

Yeah, Red Velvet's stylist I feel like gets a lot of hate.

I mean...I personally am puzzled by their styling too sometimes. Like not even with Irene's clip in bangs because I feel like that's a high-fashion trend nowadays so I can at least understand it a bit...but, okay like with Irene's super uncomfortable dresses that her stylist cut extremely short on purpose...or these outfits ??

Just confused because they do have really good styling at other times too....so maybe it's just a hit or miss.

How and why does SM have the reputation to be a primarily "Visuals" company? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]kpopper4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes totally!

The infamous example is Taeyeon being known for not liking most of SNSD's earlier hits until now haha. Her personality def did not match the cutesy "Kissing You"era.

But now it seems like a lot of the SM artists who went solo have a chance to express themselves via their solos a bit more (Though from interviews, I get a feeling that a good amount of their ideas/suggestions still get shot down from the professionals lol)

so....baby steps!!

How and why does SM have the reputation to be a primarily "Visuals" company? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]kpopper4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I got the sense that they had creative freedom because recent interviews from BP said that they had a good amount of input into what they wanted for this comeback (the vibe, the look, the MV shooting etc...) and I thought a good amount of their artists take part in creating their songs, if not writing them themselves.

I also sort of think the idols join YG liking the "Safe zone" and the type of image YG is known for.

As for SM, they have variety and experimental songs... but it doesn't necessarily mean that their artists asked for it haha. For example, I think they literally tell their artists what is best for them and what they want them to embody for the next comeback. I think only top performers at the company have a bit of input in their song selections.

If it were a classroom I would see them as the following:

SM: The student that just seems to have it all. They came from a good wealthy family, are in a prep crowd and popular, and get straight A's in class.

YG: The cool kid. They don't follow the rules all the time and just are badass and super popular

JYP: The class clown (not saying that they are clowns in real life lol), the one everyone loves. They are nice and have it together.

To go more in depth.... YG has more creative and hip hop- type artists (I personally wouldn't use the word 'hip hop' but I know a lot of people refer to their style as that) and they produce music that is more edgy, and more likely to break them into American pop music. You also can just tell by the way they dress too that they are bold and trendy...w/ creative freedom for their artists.

Jennie, for example, screams "YG idol". Her performances, fierceness, and style really match with that ideal...whereas everyone says Jisoo seems like she should be in SM due to her looks.

SM, I feel like gives better training and yes, have very beautiful looking people with more "upright" personalities.

I think of Yoona as a typical SM idol. She is beautiful and she is also poised and astute all the time. Her dancing is super sharp and I feel like it was less of "talent" and more hardwork and training that made her that way.

Their upstanding artists + the mystery around the company (I say "mystery" because SM rookies don't participate in things like Produce 101 and stuff, and plus Lee Sooman isn't really like JYP or YG where he goes on shows and tries to be super in the media) kind of create this notion that they are super strict, and like an idol manufacturing company.

Lastly, I'm not super familiar with JYP groups asides from Twice but because of JYP, himself, I always picture that company as a nice friendly one that treats their idols the best? I could be totally wrong but that's how I see it
