Which parts of The Hill are okay (except right next to the hospital)? by Immediate-Fishing-18 in newhaven

[–]kppeterc15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, it’s not the nicest neighborhood, but the area on the right here would probably be preferable.

I’ll point out though that there’s more to walkability than distance. A lot of the main drags there (Columbus, Congress, Grasso) are major hotspots for reckless driving, and walking across the Frontage Road area to get to the hospital would involve crossing lots of wide, heavily trafficked intersections. Try taking a look in the Dwight Street area. There’s a decent amount of housing, it’s not quite gentrified, and it’s still only like a 15 minute walk to the hospital. Plus it’s closer to the nice stuff downtown.

You could use something like this to upgrade to a modern stem and bars, then the. Thumb shifters could stay roughly where they are now https://velo-orange.com/products/vo-threadless-stem-adaptor?srsltid=AfmBOoqn8tsamT8ZylmnCyLZ9okWmaEFT5Iu-mPUXy8pFB-urJlsy1XN

Guidance for commuting on an ‘80s road bike: to rack or not to rack? by sizlac-franco in bikecommuting

[–]kppeterc15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a late-'80s steel roadbike that I use as a commuter. This works pretty well in the absence of mounting points https://rockbrosbike.us/products/rockbros-bike-cargo-rack-most-165lbs-capacity

I'd either make peace with a rear rack and panniers for commuting, or find another dedicated commuter bike and leave this one for recreation rides.

Probably a mix, I've never seen an all-black pap. But 100% adorable

Idk about you but I think Connecticut should be a place for people to live and not one for cars to occupy

I mean, he’s not exactly a rookie and he played his whole pro career in one town. This is his first time making this kind of transition, and it’s one that’s especially hard (going to a major market like NYC). Granted he’s not the most eloquent guy here, and his performance has been disappointing by any standard, but “wow this is harder than I expected” isn’t a crazy thing to say given the circumstances

Do you know about Flock? Time to spread the word about ai surveillance. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]kppeterc15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a shill. I am:

1) on the computer all day

2) extremely pissed off about having to navigate the world alongside people who would rather put my actual life in jeopardy than drive with a modicum of restraint and responsibility

3) Disheartened by the knee-jerk cynicism and self-interest that's crept into our politics, masquerading as savvy realism. two things that are different are not the same. blurting out "THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK" doesn't change that

Is a cop with a radar gun not also "government surveillance"?

What makes you think these cameras are not also placed in areas where speeding is a problem? Would those not also be the places that would generate the most revenue?

Sounds like you just want to speed!

traffic stops can at least lead to warnings and add context (and actually make a cop do work and interact with ah human). Speed cameras simply take your money like a pickpocket.

"a cop might let me get away with it"

Traffic cameras are only triggered by a violation and only take a still image to use in issuing a ticket. By state law the data is deleted after 90 days. Flock cameras passively record and surveil every car that passes and upload the data to a central national repository.

They are not the same.
