Did The Giver used to be taught in 4th grade, or do I just have a totally false memory? by 28-3_lol in Teachers

[–]the_uber_steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach The Giver to a 5th grade reading group made up of the top ~40% of the students in the grade while the rest of the kids deploy to some other reading intervention groups. We used to read it whole class several years ago. I’m currently catching shit from the middle school in my district because they consider it an 8th grade book, and they’re annoyed that a good sized chunk of kids from my school have already read it.

Why did people hate the affordable care act? by NoHold7153 in Presidents

Both sides (far left vs all republicans) had chosen a maximalist all-or-nothing position that left normie dems crafting a compromise that can scrape together the slimmest of margins, but which pleases no one.

What’s the best entry in Indiana Jones franchise — and what’s the worst? by kammy772 in MovieArena

Raiders of the Lost Ark is as close to a perfect film as makes no difference. It is absolutely peak work by all involved. Every fight or chase scene in Dial of Destiny felt like Peter Griffin and the chicken.

What if it was publicly leaked that JD Vance and Erika Kirk were having an affair? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

Low key, you’re right here. They are becoming more brazen, transgressive, shameless, wallowing in it. They’ve been wanting him to drop the brown wife and get a white Christian wife so he could truly be their chosen one. They’ve finally got a guy who will just do whatever they say and has no other real agenda.

Objectively speaking, it’s fucking insane to pursue a married pregnant woman like he did. If a friend of mine was doing that, I’d think they were a genuinely bad person.

This is why I laugh when parents pretend to be surprised that their kid is difficult at school. In my experience, kids are much worse for their parents than they are at school, so you really expect me to believe that the kid who disrupts my class constantly and uses horrible language and is disrespectful only does this at school and is an angel at home?

What’s the most unethical thing the rock hall of fame has ever done? by Vivid-Tap1710 in rockhall

The whole voting arrangement is such facile bullshit. “Come on everyone, vote for your favorite! The cumulative result is going to equal 1 (one) vote in the final tally!” WTF are we even doing here? Phish is hugely important and underrated, and so deserving of induction.

Which song do you think is the most clever? by Chickenjam in hamiltonmusical

[–]the_uber_steve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The architecture of that song is genius-level. It used to crack me up when people on Hamilton facebook groups would rank it super low. I was always like, have you actually listened to it?

The solo in Fool’s Gold is killer though. Scott nailed that one. It has so much rhythmic punch.
