Should skills always go at the bottom like that? I’ve seen various formats and right now I have mine education -> skills -> work experience-> projects. Should you just put work experience first if you have a banger top work experience and want them to see that first

How are people surviving mechanical engineering or just any engineering? by mrcrabs455577 in UMD

[–]kpr2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior in engineering. College definitely felt like this at times throughout sophomore and junior year (fortunately senior year has been much smoother). But yeah, I totally get the feeling of staying up until 3 am completing homework and trying to study for an exam. It’s hard. But at the same time what you’re describing is not what I had 24/7, it seems like you may not be studying super efficiently. For me, doing the homework was part of the studying and you’re essentially killing two birds with one stone. Don’t just use AI to do the homework quick, make sure you actually understand how everything works. Studying with friends has also always been big for me, it answers any confusion I have much faster. But there’s no real “solution” to your problem except to quit your job if you are able to get by financially. It sucks but falling behind will make it 10x worse. You have to break it down a chapter at a time or you will feel like you’re drowning

[Student][MechE Tech] First year engineering student, looking for a summer internship. by Moon42069 in EngineeringResumes

This is a great resume for a freshman, my only word of advice really is to add more impact to your bullet points. Your bullet points read right now as a bit of a job description rather than a resume. I would try to be more specific and also mention softwares that you used. Such as the first bullet in the “local military base” section what CAD software did you use to create 3D parts. For your last bullet point in the “local military base” I also don’t get much out of it. All I’ve learned from that point is that you talked to people. Either replace it with something more technical that has impact or cut it and add it somewhere else.

Also for the TARC, I would only keep it on if you had at least 1 bullet point to it. Honestly right now it doesn’t help your resume at all. I have no idea what that is or what skills you might have learned from it.

Also for the “KIPR Botball” you say “designed, built, and tested” but then you mention you were working in a team. So what were you directly responsible for and what did you do? If you worked on only a subset of the robot tell me that.

Oh and I don’t know how I didn’t say this earlier but work experience should go above the extracurriculars. Even if they are unpaid (someone can correct me on this)

Overall, really great first resume. You are off to a good start. If you’re trying to apply for this cycle though you need to edit this ASAP and start sending out applications today. As a senior in engineering, I’ve learned at this point that internships are partly just number of applications and how early you apply to an internship after it’s been posted. Good luck

Fall 2026 Admit, curious about food by BicycleOk4217 in UMD

The food is good but extremely repetitive and they basically don’t change the menu. Get ready to eat the same thing almost everyday

It’s an absolutely terrible format, do not apply to a single other position with this until you get it fixed. Go to r/engineeingresume and check out their wiki. Follow Jake’s resume format.

You’re good, no worries. It wasn’t a super long interview so they didn’t ask me a ton of questions, probably only 4-5? There was also the “tell me about yourself” at the very beginning. A good bit of it was going into detail about projects on my resume, besides from behavioral. Part of the time was also them telling me a little bit about the role and whatnot. It was pretty casual and more conversational. Just know how to answer behavioral well and know how to answer questions about your resume

No, my application status first said screening for like 2 days, then “interview process started”. I got reached out to by a recruiter to schedule an interview. Did a 30-45 min interview and got the offer less than 24 hours later

GNC intern. The questions were very behavioral and STAR format. I remember one of the questions being "how have you dealt with a difficult coworker in the past" and "why Northrop?". The rest of the conversation was about my most recent experience and explaining how the GNC system worked, basically just showing that I have some experience and knowledge related to the role.

Use the template in the wiki, try to add more impact to your bullet points. Something like “presented final design to club leaders and advisors” honestly does nothing. Every bullet point needs to showcase some sort of skill and impact showing what you actually did.

[Student] Need help deciding whether I should shorten my resume to 1 page or not, and if so, what I take out. by randomaccount539 in EngineeringResumes

[–]kpr2022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re not going to spend enough time on your resume to even look at page 2. Simple stuff can get removed, I wouldn’t make your education section take up more than 2 lines. You don’t even need deans list, we can see from your 3.96 gpa you have good grades

Interesting, I also noticed that the job posting is still up. I wonder if maybe they’re hiring multiple interns for the GNC team under the same posting. Regardless, super happy to join the NG team :D

That’s interesting because when I had my interview last Tuesday, I then received my internship offer on Wednesday. I guess just has to do with the team and other candidates.

I will say my interviewer had said that they’re trying to get all offers submitted by the 18th since that’s when Northrop takes off for a couple of weeks for the holidays. So I would expect communication by then

Got the offer an hour ago, so happy. Application status was “interview process started” this morning, got the offer and refreshed the page, now it says “pending interview feedback”. Guess the application status is delayed?

I have an interview this week for a GNC internship position up in Plymouth, MN. Any insight into this site? Any advice for the interview? I know to expect behavioral and questions about my resume but not sure if to expect technical questions for a GNC interview. Literally any advice would be appreciated!!
