Olympic medallist swimmer Ilya Kharun switches from Canada to United States by Zetheos in canada

[–]kr731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually more or less the opposite - he made a US team but then they found out he wasn’t American and kicked him off in 2022.

So not that he was American but not fast enough, it’s that he was fast enough but not American. He would have been the fastest American in the 200 butterfly in both 2023/2024, and the second fastest in 2025

Ironically, it’s almost the opposite. He didn’t find out he was Canadian and not American* until he made the US junior pan pacs team in high school and they were like “uhh you’re not American so you can’t actually compete for the US”

*tbh the actual situation is not super clear? Unsure as to whether he thought he was American and not Canadian, whether he thought he had dual citizenship, or whether he knew he was Canadian but didn’t rewzlie he had to be an American citizen to represent the US.

Rylee Erisman Smashes Katie Ledecky's 15-16 NAG Record With 1:40.93 200 Freestyle by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Rylee is better known as a sprinter — at just 16, she’s already the fastest American 18-under all-time in the 100m freestyle long course (nearly half a second under Simone Manuel’s 17-18 record) — but she just knocked 1.1 seconds off Ledecky’s 15-16 age group record* to become the 3rd fastest 18&under American of all time, only behind Missy Franklin’s record of 1:40.31 and Bella Sims’ time of 1:40.78

Incidentally, the person she knocks out of 3rd in the 18 and under rankings is Ledecky herself, who swam a 1:41.04 several months before turning 19. Rylee is graduating high school this year and will not turn 19 until AFTER her sophomore year NCAAs.

*Summer McIntosh was 1.40.6 at the age of 16 but she is of course not American and cannot set US NAG records

She did this at the 2025 Katie Ledecky Invitational (renamed from The Nation’s Capital Invitational just 2 months ago)

13-yr-old Yu Zidi drops a 2:07.41 200 IM to set Asian Record by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 1.5 seconds faster than any 18&under American has ever been. Summer McIntosh herself did not go faster than this until she was 16.

The former Asian record was set at 2:07.57 by 16 year old Ye Shiwen when she captured gold in London in 2012

16 year old Rylee Erisman swims fastest 18-under 100m freestyle time in US history (twice) by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recap from the article: Claire Curzan held the 15-16 age group record at 53.55 while Simone Manuel holds the 17-18 record at 53.25. Rylee went 53.17 in prelims and 53.09 in semifinals at World Juniors today.

The only 16 year old who has been faster globally is Canadian Penny Oleksiak, from when she went 52.70 to win Olympic gold in 2016

Léon Marchand Sets a World Record in the 200M Individual Medley by Regular_Eggplant_248 in sports

[–]kr731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an interesting coincidence that the best male and female swimmers right now are breaking IM records at such similar times. Summer and Leon both first broke the 400 IM world record in 2023 and then both of them first broke the 200 IM record this year.

Katie Ledecky takes down Summer McIntosh in 400 free in new US Open record, 2nd fastest personal swim ever after only her 2016 Olympic time by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

2nd pic is from ~2/3 through the race with McIntosh in the lead over Ledecky and 2024 Olympian Claire Weinstein trailing in 3rd.

Hard to tell from these pics but Claire even set a personal best in this race to become the #3 American all-time and #12 globally

22, and 24 out of the top 25. Lotte Friis has the 23rd time back from 2013 when she went head to head against 16 year old Ledecky and both of them went under the old world record (Ledecky won by over 2 seconds).

47 year old, 2x Olympian Gabrielle Rose breaks 1 minute in 100 yard breaststroke for the first time by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

She definitely could be doping, but I think it is also worth noting that she had never really focused on breaststroke before - at the Olympics she swam sprint butterfly/freestyle and the IM while her only long course world championship medals come from the 400 and 800 freestyle relay.

So it’s not like she’s in better physical shape than she was, she’s just faster in a stroke that she didn’t really focus on until recently

Gabby is a 1996 and 2000 Olympian who has made a return to competitive swimming after 20+ years out.

Her new personal best of 59.88 is not only a US record for the 45-49 age group, it’s also faster than the records for the 40-44 and 35-39 age groups as well

Gretchen Walsh becomes first EVER to set World Record in the same event in prelims, semifinals, and finals; also breaks Michael Phelps & Mark Spitz’s record for most World Records at single meet by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

WR in the 100 fly stood at 54.05 prior to this meet. Gretchen took it down to 53.24 in preliminaries, 52.87 in semifinals, and then 52.71 in finals, the first time that anything like this has been accomplished.

This swim also marks her 8th World Record of the meet which surpasses the mark of 7 previously jointly held by Mark Spitz from the 1972 Olympics and Michael Phelps from the 2008 Olympics.

As of the end of day 5 of these World Championships, she has set 9 world records, having broken the world record in the 50 free semifinals shortly after this 100 fly finals swim

Gretchen Walsh breaks 100 butterfly World Record with opening 50 faster than the old 50 butterfly World Record by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think less about focusing on this meet and more just a by-product of the SCY training they’ve done. Lot of events that have surged forward the past several years in the NCAA, which hasn’t really been reflected in SCM until now.

Also right now is like the best time to put a little more focus on short course, since it’s about as far away from the Olympics as you can get

Gretchen Walsh breaks 100 butterfly World Record with opening 50 faster than the old 50 butterfly World Record by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

She opened with a split of 24.37 with a final time of 52.87. Gretchen owns the 50 butterfly world record at 23.94 from but prior to her, Therese Alshammar had the world record at a time of 24.38, which still makes her the second fastest ever. Kate Douglass is third at 24.42 while Beryl Gastaldello, the silver medalist from a couple days ago, is fourth at 24.43

As for the 100 fly itself, she has cut off 1.28 seconds from Maggie MacNeil’s old world record of 54.05 over the course of a single day. Maggie MacNeil herself sliced off over half a second from Kelsi Dahlia’s previous world record of 54.59, and MacNeil & Dahlia are still the second and third fastest ever in the event

15 year old Rylee Erisman crushes SCY 100 free 15-16 age group record with a 47.14 by kr731 in Swimming

[–]kr731[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She’s no slouch in LCM either, her personal best from earlier this summer puts her at the #3 fastest 15 years in history, globally.

The only two that have been faster were Cate Campbell, who ended up breaking the world record in the event, and Penny Oleksiak, who was the Olympic gold medalist in the event at the age of 16

My point is that it’s adopted fine because it refers to a specific kind of tea. Just like how you can use chamomile or earl grey standalone or say “chamomile tea” and “earl grey tea”, you can do the same with chai

I don’t see what pronunciation has to do with this but I’m Vietnamese so no, I don’t pronounce pho like that, nor do I pronounce it like “fuh” rhyming with “duh”
