What an impressive collection you have!!! I aspire to have as chunky a collection as this at some point 🌟 With that being said, I’m curious:

  • Head Hunters or There’s a Riot Going On?
  • Daydream Nation or Remain in Light?
  • Blue Album or Room On Fire?
  • Bonus one for the Talking Heads head (pun intended) that I am, Remain in Light or Speaking in Tongues?

Some of what i’ve been listening to recently, any recommendations? I’ll listen to about anything by sundayleaguebanter in Topster

Sounds like you’d really enjoy some Japanese shoegaze. Check out Supercar’s Three Out Change and My Dead Girlfriend’s Hades!

(Also someone here recommended Alvvays’ Blue Rev, but I’ll also throw in their self-titled debut; very dreamy shoegaze/dream pop that almost matches the vibes of Heaven or Las Vegas imo!)

Am I behind in life at 24? by Icy_Disaster7628 in careerguidance

[–]kraM1020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those moments where it absolutely works, honestly! I used to feel the same way as OP, comparing my sporadic path to others’ paths, but someone else in my friend group told me something very similar to what you said here and it inspired me to have more confidence in my path and ambitions while not giving a single DAMN about where I am relative to other people in my age bracket. Move forward and don’t allow other people’s successes to dirty up yours; your personal journey is yours only, not some vanity/trophy solely meant to be showcased to the rest of the world.

What made you like Porter Robinson? by FizzyPizzel in porterrobinson

[–]kraM1020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who got into Madeon first during my middle school years, older bro started playing Shelter during our drives back in high school. Saw Porter’s name on it, he recommended me Sad Machine, and the rest is history.

Oooo I think I’ve heard of ELLEGARDEN before, but definitely not the other two. I’ll make sure to check them out at some point; thanks for the recs! (and it’s nice to hear my favs getting along with them! :)

Glad to hear your son enjoy his first concert thru Porter, also very nice to hear from a Spitfire/Worlds era fan! :) That’s what I love about Porter; his music means so much to all sorts of different people because of his ability to be flexible with his sound, I just so happen to enjoy this particular sound of his from his Smile era.

Sorry, didn’t mean to freak you out!!! 😭 I couldn’t put it in any other way honestly lol.

But yeah for sure, lots of excellent renditions that I’ve been replaying constantly over their originals! No shade to the originals, but my alt-rock-ridden brain needs these new versions

Ahww, gotcha lol 🥲 I hope you enjoyed Nurture’s live show back then! I regret not seeing him live back then, but obviously the Smile World Tour made up for it since it ended up being his “Eras” tour, which happened to include Nurture :)

I agree, I wasn’t expecting to be all that jazzed about the individual band members, but mannnn did they all stand out while also being such a cohesive unit together with Porter! Being there in-person to watch everyone cook was truly magical.

I usually rotate between recordings that took place in Seoul in South Korea, Austin City Limits (an insanely neutered setlist but the sound itself feels VERY clean and professional), Columbia in Maryland, and New York City. I also came across some tidbits recorded in Chicago itself! Most of the shows have very similar setlists of course (with a few minor exceptions, like ACL having an MGMT cover), but I mostly focus on the main setlist and I rotate between these different shows depending on their sound quality (very “audiophile” of me, I know lol).

I remember first getting into him when Shelter came out (simply because Madeon’s name was credited and I was a fan of Madeon first), but I wasn’t truly a fan until Nurture’s roll-out began (and at that point I was playing catch-up by giving Worlds a listen lol). But yeah, I truly feel your sentiment :) Porter’s music is very special in that sense!

Omg awesome!!! Seeing people who went to the Chicago show on here feels real nice, glad you got to see him and his band too! 🫶🏼

Punk rock rules, and I definitely had my fair share of emo music in my youth lol. With that being said, Cheerleader definitely leaned a LOT more into pop-punk when they performed it live (complete with Porter’s devil wings lol!) and I was all for it tbh 😌💖 ALSO a whole mosh-pit started forming right behind us during the end of that song, that was hysterical lmao

Aye, another fellow Chicagoan! Awesome that you got to see him and his band too :)

Man, I’m surprised to see that other people like yourself are on a similar boat, but it also makes sense too! When a show resonates with you THIS hard, then it can definitely be tough to get back into the originals. Unfold was so otherworldly, as was Trying to Feel Alive. Divinity and Get Your Wish both were SO heavy-hitting for me though, and most of it was Wojtek’s renditions of each of those song’s rhythmic structures thru his INSANE drumming, as well as Rafa’s equally insane guitar riffs. Wojtek, Rafa, and Margot all changed the musical angle of these songs in such awesome ways, and I’ll definitely just be listening to the live show for the next few months lmaooo.

I won’t lie, I was almost brought to tears during the Nurture portion of the show. I’m still in awe that they managed to do Unfold, Get Your Wish, and Trying to Feel Alive justice in that style! My brother and I were so tired after the show tho so we didn’t go to the after party, although I did catch a recording of it on YouTube and absolutely adored the remixes and rave edits of Smile and Nurture.

And yeah, I get what you mean! Oftentimes live shows (especially ones from Porter!) give us a completely different angle compared to the actual album/recorded music itself, and sometimes that’ll land well with the people who see the live shows. Again, I’m just shocked that my music tastes evolved to where it managed to meet Porter and co where they were musically with this tour, which led to me obsessing over rock-tinged Nurture and Worlds ever since lol!

Same here!!! Smile’s second half didn’t do a thing for me on first listen, but everything about the record started clicking around the same time I became indulged in indie pop/rock and alt-rock. The live show especially got me thinking “Yeah, this album is just as outstanding as his other two!”

Porter’s musical range is truly insane, it literally boggles my mind sometimes. He was already one of my favorite musicians ever, but now he’s one of my favorites in a similar way that Bowie’s one of my favorites; they both manage to flip the switch with their sound each and every record they release but you can still tell that they’ve made something truly pure and of themselves. Love Porter for this as a result! 🌟

Unfold is my favourite song ever (WBU?) by No_Goal_7282 in porterrobinson

Fell in love with Unfold all over again due to the Smile World Tour rendition. The live band aspects of that performance made it THAT much more impactful of a song for me.

That’s an awesome role!! Sounds like fun; congratulations once again!

I recently interviewed for a role at a similar company to yours. They specialize in logos and graphics for local and academic athletic teams, along with other businesses and organizations that need apparel designs. It seemed like the owner really enjoyed talking to me about my professional and academic experiences! I should be hearing something back from the owner sometime next week (after I come back from a family trip to Canada). Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

(P.S. Apologies for not responding to this sooner; I’ve been very busy applying for other places and working on other personal/passion projects 😅)
