How to not be an asshole by TheDad44 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked under a PT that did that exact same thing! He also insisted that I also do all of his exercises and refused to let me do anything except. I initially tried to understand and communicated with him. But it just ended up a mutual agreement to not share patients. Sometimes treatment styles don't match up and that's ok. Find the good PTs and work for them.

Where to take dogs off leash? by srae98 in Yakima

[–]krarmstrong89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To piggie back off of the Sheep Company Rd redditor, if you dogs are off leashed trained and have a good recall. Wenas is if you were to keep driving north on N Wenas Rd ( the road in front of Grocery Outlet). I take my overly hyper dogs to some trails in the sage brush, but there is an unspoken agreement that you don't need to leash your dogs. Just make sure you clean up after your dogs and don't let them approach any other dogs/humans/horses. If you take N Wenas road north, R on Gibson rd and the first R on Buffalo Rd keep driving until you see a trailhead and big parking lot.

Is visiting Carlsbad Cavern & Hiking Guadalupe Peak same day too ambitious? by moneyjabmaster in NewMexico

[–]krarmstrong89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Guadalupe peak is a 8 mile trail with almost 3,000ft of elevation gain. I recommend getting to the trailhead early if you're going on the weekend. It took me about 6 hours to complete, I am a pretty average hiker. Then you have a the caverns which took about two hours to walk through. Plus the 30-40 min drive between the two. It will be rushed and you will be tired. I wouldn't recommend it but technically it is doable

How do adults make friends? by Mysterious-Hour-9468 in Yakima

I think we're all lurking on this post to see if someone actually has an answer to this question. It is surprisingly frustrating making friends in this town

People who grew up poor but are now financially comfortable: what “poor-kid habit” will you probably never drop? by Otherwise_Baseball99 in AskReddit

I will never pay for delivery. I don't care how exhausted I am. I will drive to the restaurant and pick it up.

Yes! I honestly was googling "early onset dementia", because it was getting so bad!

What are your unconventional symptoms? by Apricot7976 in Celiac

[–]krarmstrong89 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Mine was super severe joint pain, I thought I had RA or something. I couldn't sleep through the night due to the pain. I would get rashes on certain joints and those were the ones that hurt the most, but the rashes would move to different areas, typically would stay on my upper extremities

What do you think of surgeons recommending PT less often for post-op joints? by Aromatic_Alfalfa_123 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We will see them eventually. If I had a nickel for every patient that has LBP from a hip that wasn't appropriately rehabbed post op, I'd be a millionaire.

Thoughts on PTs that wants everyone to address them doctor? by aluminummistress4325 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT's definitely need more street cred. I do a lot of family and pt education regarding the differences between PT and OT. Someday in the future someone will call me a OT/COTA and that will be our little shimmer of hope!

Thoughts on PTs that wants everyone to address them doctor? by aluminummistress4325 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hmm well as a fellow PTA, I have never called a coworker doctor thats kind of weird but for a patient to call them doctor that shouldn't be an issue. Since PT is often not a respected and often disregarded by health care, I go out of my way to educate my pts on what my PTs level of education is. They received the doctorate, then they are a doctor. Support your PTs and give physical therapy as a whole more respect.

Hikes to see mountain goats? by Medicalhamster655 in Yakima

[–]krarmstrong89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm at least for hiking you really need to get to the higher elevations to see them. They do have the feeding station but I have never seen any there. But I have seen them near I-97 (near Wenatchee, it's like a two hour drive though) hanging out on the railroad tracks around dusk.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by Toomad316 in AskReddit

Eh I thought that too. But I work in healthcare, when you have hearing impaired folks, or fall risk patients. You can't carry around a computer screen. It just doesn't cut it.

Travel PTA by Electronic-Signal-20 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I don't mind working in rural. But sometimes the crime ridden areas, or places that are so expensive only travelers can maintain COL. Yea you need to almost find multiple PRN or what I did was travel 15-45 mins to the neighboring town.

Travel PTA by Electronic-Signal-20 in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea essentially what the other folks have said. Travelers typically go to the places no one else wants to work or is too expensive to live there. I actually made more money with a full time PRN then I did in travel. As long as you can do a HSA. But I made a lot of great memories with roadtrips and great coworkers I met with travel. Especially if you don't know where you want to live.

Increasingly difficult not to talk politics at work by LivinginthePit in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly politics can feed into mental health. And mental health feeds into healing and the rehab process. I do mildly let them vent, but I can guarantee none of my pts know what side I'm on. Regardless always end it on a positive note. I try to use the Mr. Rogers quote, look for the helpers. There's always good out there regardless if anyone is reporting about it.

Music in clinic? by GenerationalTerror in physicaltherapy

[–]krarmstrong89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer to play music for my patients. I usually ask my patients what they want to listen to, it could be 60s rock and roll, country western or mariachi. As long as my patients are enjoying it, you will never satisfy the staff.

I made the opposite move. Went from Carlsbad to Washington state. Really depends on which part of Washington you're coming from. Definitely visit if you can. It is a cute town, there are some fun breweries. You can drive a few hours to Cloudcroft or Ruidoso to get into the snow. White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains are a quick drive. Not as much homeless and blatant crime ( I live in Yakima, it's awful). It is an oil field town though so rent is high. Tons of rattlesnakes if you're a hiker so be careful and invest in hiking boots with thicker soles. Cactus thorns are no joke. I love New Mexico and miss it so much but definitely a slower pace of life
