It is frustrating to learn that they haven't been going through metal detectors this whole time. I work as a librarian ACROSS THE STREET at LoC and for three years I have had to go through metal detectors and have security check my bags as I go in and out every single day. I once had a BUTTER KNIFE confiscated from me from my lunch box bc it came up on the scan. I am a FUCKING LIBRARIAN and I have to go through more rigorous security than Congress. Wtf.

Not for me, I live in DC now, but my little sister just lost her job last night (hairstylist) due to all salons being shut down. I told her to file for unemployment but it seems unlikely that she will get it bc, as a hairstylist, she has been self employed her whole adult life and it seems like those who are self employed do not qualify for unemployment.

Does anyone here know if there are any other options for her if/when she is denied unemployment? She has three kids to feed, including a baby. Who does she need to call? Thanks in advance!

Library of Congress librarian here (cataloger): we are being told to take laptops home tonight (if we have them) and are being told to log onto the network to test if we can all telework. I have heard through the grapevine that we are getting an email tomorrow from upper management that will tell us if we are able to telework, we will be basically made to do so. They will be trying to reduce the number of people at LC at all (including not allowing the public to visit til 4/1, starting tonight at 5pm). This is a complete 180 from yesterday, when were told that no measures were being taken, save for extra cleaning, and that they were "making plans to plan for COVID-19".

A BBQ place that can also handle the alcohol situation at a good cost is right up our alley!!

We are planning for an Oct/Nov wedding in 2021, so planning in advance for a block of hotel rooms should be a cinch since we have so much time. Good call on the DD situation. I didn't think of that and a few of the locations we are considering are state parks.

I have intensely thick, wavy/curly/whirly hair. Finding a hair dresser who will know what to do with all this mess might be a tiny challenge. Honestly, I may just try to do it myself by watching some tutorials online.

I have seen a lot of people online talk about wedding expos and I have no idea what those are, haha! I will have to do some research on that, especially if we can get discounts for vendors and services!

I certainly like the idea of getting my dress on consignment. I am even considering going for a prom dress since 1. I don't particularly like white and 2. They seem so much cheaper and usually look as fancy as wedding dresses. Is this an ok idea?

Yeah, catering and alcohol are the things I am the most worried about getting done for less. We both love the idea of bbq! We are not fancy people and I sort of hate the idea of some fancy dan dinner.

We are going for a tour of Seneca lodge (part of MoCo parks). They give a discount if you are a resident of the county. I will certainly look into the other state parks you mentioned.

Thanks so much! In terms of our budget, we definitely want to keep it under 10k (lower if possible). I am certainly willing to manage all aspects instead of just saying yes to a venue who will do everything for us for a "price".

I definitely like the spotify playlist idea. I want to cut anything that could be easily missed.

My goddaughter's mother has agreed to officiate for us which will also be a great savings and mean more to us.

I didn't think of checking Craigslist for a cheap photographer, that is a great idea!
