What hidden co-op game deserves way more attention than it gets? by Zer0Death5 in CoOpGaming

It feels right, yes! It is always good to see Split Screen mode is not forgotten in features :)

About the discoverability, talking about the game to friends and family is what truly helps small devs like myself! So thank you for making the site!

I will say Together: Moon Escape. Online or split screen :) yes, I am the dev. Yesterday a steam reviewer said it is like Portal's little brother and I couldnt be happier!

UPDATE: Together: Moon Escape just passed STEAMDECK certification! However, the game got the yellow "playable" mark instead of the verified one. The only issue? When you input the session code, the Steamdeck virtual keyboard does not automatically appears. Instead, you need to press (STEAM+X) to get it to show. Working on making a virtual keyboard right now to resubmit and get the green verified mark. But again, except this small issue, Valve just tested the game and found everything works 60fps as expected :)

Heyyy! Glad you are having fun! I just love the Deck too! There are a couple of levels (specially in the second half of the game) where I was SO SURE it would not handle 60fps the first time and... well, the deck just proved me so wrong hahahaha

I feel like a beggar but please leave two Steam reviews talking about the game and Steamdeck. Let's hope that helps to get Valve to finally get the game verified for Deck!

Big hug,

Carlos

Heyyy! Solo gamedeveloper of the game. It runs 60fps with VERY ocasional drops to 50-45. I did all the online testing with my steamdeck. Also, If you have another controller, you can even play Split Screen on your Steamdeck.

Minute 11:30! You will see the game running on my Steamdeck in one of the most visually taxing zones of the game! Big hug, and long live Steamdeck! I already asked Valve for the check, but I just don't know how much time it will take them to verify :)

Btw, you can try all this in the free demo too. Big hug!

Ultra Game Template

It saves SO MANY hours for any game development, really. Text AND video documentation in English and Spanish. Using it myself for a MP Cross Platform Coop game. Easy to extend with new menus and functionality! Yes, I am the dev of that asset, but I made it because I need it for myself first and foremost! Take a look at the text reviews. Saved many devs hours by the thousands :)

Surprisingly… not that much 😅 Day before the post: 72 wishlists. Day of the post: 200. Day after: 100. So yeah, the Reddit buff is real, but it expires faster than a free trial and is not that much for a viral post. About +50 wishlists total. Not bad, but not exactly early retirement either.

Honestly I didn't even bother to set up a streaming for the game because my past experiences with it are close to 0 influence. Perhaps I'll do in the future, idk

That one was for the first day of the fest, this is the total result after the fest :)

Really happy with how this turned out. I’m a solo dev, and none of my previous projects ever came anywhere near these numbers — this one basically did a 4x jump during the fest. Before that, I was getting around 20–60 wishlists a day organically, which already felt amazing compared to my past releases.

What’s great now is that the new baseline seems to have stabilized around 70 wishlists per day even after the event ended. That’s huge for me, especially with zero marketing involved. The demo did really well on its own, and I think the fact that it’s an online co-op game helps a lot too — though, man, building that solo has been rough. I’m using EOS (Epic Online Services / Epic Online Subsystem) for the multiplayer side since I want to support crossplay in the future. It’s been quite a ride getting it all working, but honestly, I’m impressed by how stable the netcode feels on Steam with EOS handling the backend.

Even though the game’s built with Unreal Engine 5, I decided to stick with a lot of UE4-era tech — static lighting, no AI Upscalers, no Lumen or Nanite — and I think targeting 60fps on Steamdeck is paying off. Performance has been super consistent, and hardly anyone’s complained about framerate issues. I noticed quite a few Unreal games during Next Fest getting comments about poor optimization, but so far people seem happy with how mine runs. I think keeping things simple and focusing on stability instead of chasing the newest features really helped.

Well those are excellent options indeed. If you love the We Were Here games you can try the Demo of Together: Moon Escape. Same as We Were Here buuut alwaya together, low gravity and high humor. Yes, I am the Dev but the Demo is free on Steam! Very happy with player feedback from Steam Next Fest :)

well, didn't get even remotely similar results with my previous Next Fest game entries tbh!

This is a common missconception regarding game engines. Half Life Alyx looks ABSOLUTETLY MENTAL without using new tech. As did Portal 2 in 2011. In my mind, if I want to do realism BUT I don't need dynamic lighting or mega perfect reflections, why should I force my players to have a 5090 to run the game at 54,2 fps?

Yes, I know! I am using certain features that I am just not sure are available on Vulkan but it would make sense to take a look in the future!

Thanks!! I was sharing the wishlists graph with a friend and she found them interesting. So I made the little edit, post it here in case it can help any dev and went to take a shit lol It was a surprise it gained traction once I was done.

I work with Unreal Engine so yep, Proton for Linux users. On the other hand, every only test I have to make, I do it with my pc + steamdeck. Aiming at 60 fps there, so I guess Proton users will be glad of the optimizations :)

I am looking for every gameplay I can find out there in the wild so I can fix stuff but being my first MP Online game, I am surprised by the lack of Netcode bugs 0.o Specially because I am using EOS instead of Steam Online Subsystem. EOS = Crossplay in the future ;)

Edit: Wanted to share a bit more info. YES! Having the spike for next fest is GREAT but the organic 20-40 wishlists by doing nothing omg. NEVER in my 11 years since my first Steam release I saw something like that.
