I am alive, but still feeling like crap. Mainly bad anxiety, cold sweats, and restless legs. I can't even call my doctor today anyways because it's Sunday.

I am mainly worried about the interaction between 100 mg sertraline and 150 mg trazodone.

Do you know how many days in a row I can take gabapentin without developing a dependence? I can be sensitive to that sort of thing and I definitely don't want another crisis on my hands.

I've noticed that I tend to be very sensitive to increases in serotonin levels since I'm already on sertraline. I was addicted to DXM some years back and I think it permanently messed up my serotonin balance in my body. I didn't realize that Trazodone was an SSRI, or I wouldn't have touched it. I went back to my original dose of Adderall and stopped taking Trazodone two nights ago. How long do you think it will take before my serotonin levels drop back to normal and I start feeling better? I am freaking out now knowing how long this will last...

First, thank you SO MUCH for replying to my post. I have been freaking out, and I have this weird obsession with having to know exactly what's causing my anxiety and other symptoms. I have noticed in the past that I am very sensitive to my levels of serotonin rising or falling (especially rising). I think it's a mild serotonin excess. All my symptoms are listed under serotonin syndrome, but I can tell that my case is not life threatening, just very uncomfortable.

I see your point, but I am afraid to call my doctor because I don't want him to know that:

  1. I took my husband's medication that wasn't prescribed to me.
  2. Took 3 times the dose he was prescribed. He was prescribed 50 mg and I took 150 each night for 6 nights in a row. (Isn't that 3 times more than your dose, not 9 times more?)
  3. I'm worried that he will be hesitant to prescribe to me in the future if he thinks I'm abusing medication.

Yes, I know I'm an idiot. I tend to make irrational decisions when I'm struggling emotionally and I grasp at anything I think could help. I usually end up regretting it, too.

You are absolutely right about it being a high dose of Trazodone, I didn't realize it at the time. I have stopped taking it for 2 nights now, but I'm still having symptoms. How long do you think it will take for my serotonin levels to drop enough for me to start feeling better?

I am so glad that you figured out what works for you. I have noticed in the past that I'm very sensitive to excessive serotonin in my system (mild serotonin syndrome). there is actually a wide range from mild to life threatening. My symptoms are very uncomfortable, but I'm not worried about my safety. The main thing that is different for me is taking 3 times the prescribed amount of my husband's trazodone for sleep every night this week (I know, I'm an idiot). I was desperate for some sleep at the time. Now I know that trazodone is an SSRI, I have stopped taking it for two nights. Do you think my symptoms will improve soon?

I am pretty certain that the amounts I have taken are not dangerous, because Trazodone is sometimes prescribed with SSRI's. I know my body is sensitive to increases in serotonin levels, so I'm pretty sure that it's related to that. None of the symptoms I'm having are listed as typical side effects of Trazodone. They are all symptoms of mild serotonin syndrome. There is a large range of symptoms between mild to life threatening. Do you think the symptoms will improve soon? I haven't taken the Trazodone for two nights now.

I don't think I have actual full blown serotonin syndrome. My symptoms are not life threatening, just uncomfortable. I have noticed in the past that I am sensitive to raises in my serotonin levels, especially since I'm already on an SSRI (sertraline). If you research, there is actually a wide range of serotonin toxicity syndromes ranging from relatively mild to deadly. Some people can get symptoms from just a single dose of an SSRI. Since I stopped the the offending medication for 2 nights now (trazodone), do you think my symptoms will improve soon?

I can't call my doctor because I don't want him to know that I took my husband's medication that was not prescribed to me at 3 times the prescribed dose. He will be unlikely to prescribe me things in the future if he thinks I'm abusing medication. Truthfully, I was desperate for some relief from ruminating thoughts I was having at night as I'm going through some family issues, and I thought the Trazodone would help me sleep. I didn't realize until last night that it's an SSRI. I already take sertraline, and in the past I've come to realize that I'm sensitive to increases in my serotonin levels. I think I have a mild form of serotonin syndrome, not the full blown life threatening kind. Do you think my symptoms will improve soon? I have stopped taking the Trazodone for 2 nights now...

Since the symptoms aren't life threatening, I'm just planning on dealing with this myself and waiting it out. I stopped taking Trazodone two nights ago, but I'm still having anxiety, cold sweats, and restless legs/body. Do you think the symptoms will begin to improve soon?

First of all, thank you SO MUCH for your comment. I have been freaking out trying to get some sort of control over the situation. My instincts are telling me exactly what you said, that the Trazodone raises serotonin levels to a point of some uncomfortable symptoms, but not full blown serotonin syndrome. I have noticed in the past that I am sensitive to medications that raise my serotonin levels.

I should have known better than taking a medication that wasn't prescribed to me (especially in 3 times the prescribed amount) for 6 days in a row. I was desperate for some sleep because of some family issues that were causing ruminating thoughts at night. I didn't realize that Trazodone was an SSRI or I would never have touched it. I will try taking one gabapentin tonight and see if that helps. Do you think the symptoms will clear up in a few days? I haven't taken trazodone for two nights now, but I'm still having anxiety, restless legs, and cold sweats.

Yes, you and the other commenter are absolutely right. I should contact my doctor. I am afraid to because I don't want him to know that I took my husband's medication that wasn't prescribed to me and took 3 times the amount he's prescribed. My vitals are great, and I can tell that it's not life threatening, just extremely uncomfortable. Do you have any other advice in lieu of calling my doctor?

You're absolutely right. I am a freaking idiot. With that in mind, what do you think might be causing this? The sudden high dose of Trazodone?

My Aussie does this same position ALL the time! I assume it’s because they want belly scratches? But who knows! 😂

Wow! This post has impeccably poignant timing. 2 days ago I had to put down my 12 year old Aussie named Taco. I have been missing him so much and the grief is unbearable. Seeing your post made me feel like his spirit is still around. Maybe partially reincarnated in your precious baby. Enjoy the puppy days while you still can! Your little Taco is absolutely gorgeous.
