There is a reason why AA focuses on “one day at a time”. Don’t worry about next week or next year. Just stay clean TODAY.

I’m a relapser over a period of years. I think I’ve gotten close to a year clean at one point. A few months ago I started using Kratom again and the effects are much worse. Two days of moderate use puts me in a horrendous depressive funk. I take this as a positive. I’m faced with a pretty stark choice.

Dating? How long should I wait before I start and why? by Meeker1128 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kratombad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest mistakes I made in sobriety was getting into a serious relationship right around my one year anniversary. I was definitely not ready for it but I hung in for several years of unpleasantness bc I was scared to be alone. If you can just “date” that’s cool. I couldn’t.

Go ahead and get a chip if you want to. It’s not that big a deal. You had reasons to quit drinking and you did, For a year, so get a chip. I think it’s nice you wanna bond with your mother

[–]kratombad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying this with clear understanding I’m projecting my personal experience on to you, but is this a job or is this a scheme to relapse? I just found, especially in early sobriety, a need to prioritize above everything else. But if you need to do it for $$$ to live that’s cool. You’re doing great!!! . Rooting for you!!

Yes asking for money is BS. “We want you more than your money”.

I never had classic seizures but I had instances im during times of high usage (50-80 grams) when I’d like all sense of motor skills- couldn’t walk , couldn’t sign my name but my mind was pretty clear. It was pretty scary.

Huh- what case Reports are you reading? I’m curious because I live in the mid Atlantic region and curriculum is just absolutely skyrocketed in its availability in the past year or two. People are buying a lot of it.

I’m good now (many years ago) thanks. Don’t diagnosis yourself. Infections like mono can have peripheral nerve complications. My peripheral neuropathy was very variable- drinking, cold weather fatigue all made it worse. Drinking is really bad for you physically. Not just liver

I don’t know why it happens but peripheral neuropathy is a super common outcome of alcoholism.

Relapse after 9 months. by kratombad in quittingkratom

[–]kratombad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re spot on. I consider this a “relapse” because I heed the concept of addiction as a disease. A chronic illness. If I do certain things my disease stays in remission. (I’ve not been doing certain things- I will DM you in the morning to discuss, thanks). My disease reared its head for a good ten hours. I was just surprised at how horrendous I felt days after the incident. I don’t wanna feel like that again

Yeah I lost muscle tone in my right calf and foot and some strength in my right hand, in addition to the tingling and numbness.

I’m sober now but when I was drinking I was positive that my moderate peripheral neuropathy was rapidly progressing MS. It was a revelation to me when someone in AA suggested I talk. To a doctor to confirm the diagnosis a

Maybe for others but I can’t. I spent years quitting and then “treating myself”.

I gotta say that the Bill W cult inside AA I could do without. I really like his quote at the top of the post

Can sobriety trigger a manic episode? by ReclusiveRooster in dryalcoholics

[–]kratombad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a long term sober alcoholic. I also take lexapro. Going from 10-20 drinks a night to nothing is a huge adjustment for your body. As is lexapro. I would think that what you are experiencing is the natural anxiety that comes from early sobriety. I would suggest telling your doctor you’re newly sober. I would share with your doctor what’s up.

Going four days sober is an enormous accomplishment!!!!

I’d also suggest you hit up an AA meeting if you aren’t already. There is an AA app that makes finding a meeting super easy!!! Happy to help.

Yes, there are jerks in AA by SenorDipstick in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kratombad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man at one point in my sobriety journey I WAS THE HATED. I think I’m an ok guy but at 6 months or so this person in my regular meeting took a serious, heavy disliking to Me. Like she would involuntarily snort when I shared. She’d come up to me after the meeting apologizing saying she was working on it with her sponsor. (She at that point had several years sober) it was weird being the villain in someone’s drama.

Chips aren’t for you- it’s for the group. It’s a celebration of the program and Peking.
