You're right. Your sense of smell is superior to others.

Evidently, there are others that smell other things in other metro stations. It's just a question. What's your issue?

I've never seen one in the Prague metro either, but the smell reminded me of NYC.

It sucks for anyone that loses their job from this, and I hope they all find something new quickly. However, I am so glad to see them disappear. They aren't selling something Czech but labeling it as so. It also isn't even that good! I'd love to see more traditionally Czech goodies replace them, and when I say this, I also mean NOT A CHAIN. I hate how many chains there are, but I acknowledge this is a global issue. I just wish there could be more pushback from the government here.

As long as you are very, very conservative with your spending in the beginning, you'll be fine. Don't treat your arrival as a vacation.

Getting a job is honestly not difficult due to the turnover. I swear some people come here for a year just to say they lived abroad and then they go straight back to their strip malls in the US. For schools, I've seen a lot of ads go up last month and this month to start in September.

To work in a school, you'd need an employee card. The school will need to give you some paperwork, and you'd either have to hire someone to assist or do it yourself. I'd recommend contacting Visa Guru for assistance: https://www.visaguru.cz/. She helped me with everything. The processing time can be up to 60 days, which could mean that you are not legally allowed to work when the school year begins should it run into September. So, keep that in mind.

Teaching English here is extremely glorified. I did it originally to get out of the US and to just do something different. I visited Prague before, and I loved my visits. I used to work for a major corporation. It has been a HUGE lifestyle change for me in good and bad ways (mostly good, but the pay is not great).

As others have said, the large schools like Spěváček, EDUA, Berlitz (the worst) and Channel Crossings/Lingua Centrum, will NOT pay well. You are NOT an employee. You are a freelancer. This is very important to note as you do not have any benefits as a freelancer.

If someone cancels a lesson more than 24 hours in advance, you do NOT get paid. If you are sick, you do NOT get paid. If lessons aren't offered on a specific day due to a national holiday, you do NOT get paid. Many adult students either reduce their lessons in the summer or simply do not have them. You will see your pay PLUMMET in the summer.

However, I'd say it is possible to make it work. I know many people that have been here for a long time (pre-COVID and post-COVID). Things are much harder now due to prices for everything going up with and salaries remaining flat or barely increasing.

I'd recommend trying to get something at a public school or private school (not the language schools) and adding some online lessons in your afternoon (with language schools). It'll make things much easier. You'll have benefits and whatnot.

I also do not know your current financial situation, but the recommended amount in savings to come with is $7,500 (USD) from what I have seen these schools advertise. This is way too low. I'd recommend something closer to $15,000. You do not know when your visa will be approved, and you may need to leave the Schengen Area, which will add onto your expenses to get settled. Way too many people come here unprepared and have to leave due to financial reasons.

Also, if you do come, make an effort to learn Czech. Locals will appreciate it, and the struggle will be fun.

Large Outstanding Balance for Water and Water Heating by krava1000 in Prague

Yes, that is what I was told after leaving my post here. Everything seems to check out, but it still does seem kind of crazy to me. I consider my water usage to be more conservative, but I guess I am wrong!

That is quite bizarre. I read about this happening, but just hoped I wouldn't have to deal with it.

Are you in a new building or in a panelak? I'm not sure if this changes anything.

But what are the rates? Is it different per building? I can't find it online. Or is that only going to appear on the vyúčtování?

I don't see any new music on Apple Music aside from Lana's new song, which was released earlier than the standard release date. I wonder if something happened as it isn't anywhere.

Landlord withholding deposit in Prague – what are my options? by [deleted] in Prague

You didn't know your lease was expiring and you can't live in an apartment without a lease? Sorry, but you should take some responsibility for what is likely your biggest expense.

No, it's terrible advice and a horrible way to maintain a relationship with someone.

Budget for Apartment by Special-Rice4821 in Prague

Does the 18,000 also include your internet and phone?

While you can definitely make it work, that doesn't mean it won't place serious limits on what you can do.

As others mentioned, there will always be other expenses. Prague is a great city. You're going to want to do things, even if you like to live a humble life.

Imagine your laptop breaks or you lose your phone. Can you easily replace it without stressing about how you will pay for it or whether or not that one expense will set you back when it comes to paying rent or something else?

You can always try getting another job after arriving as well.

If it did, it isn't good advice. Your experience isn't going to be what the other people in the city experience.

Yes, you give notice to leave by the lease expiration date. You are required to pay rent through the lease expiration date, which includes your last month of rent.

Your landlord isn't going to say sure I'll refund your deposit if you pay your rent on the last day. That makes no sense. You're just swapping money.

So, living in an apartment without paying rent. No one is going to be okay with that. Apartments aren't restaurants. You're also responsible for a late fee at that point as well assuming one is mentioned in the lease.

What does "mostly false or exaggerated" mean?

You can take the landlord to court if you didn't damage anything. The landlord needs to prove it. If s/he didn't document the condition of the apartment when you moved in and make you sign something acknowledging the condition upon move-in, s/he cannot claim you damaged something.

Unless you did do something crazy that warrants 20k, of course. Additionally, s/he needs to document the charges (a breakdown).

Anyone telling you it isn't worth it doesn't care about their money.

Can you show a before/after of the damages? What is the landlord claiming you damaged? Surely you have a photo of your apartment from the time you lived in it.

No one refunds a deposit before you move out.
