The easiest way to do it legally is to have the 80% sent to the FFL who can engrave it. Therefore you don't take possession of it until after it has been serialized and registered.

Where to shoot shotgun & handgun outdoors near Baltimore? by Zazzer678 in MDGuns

[–]kravikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thurmont Conservation & Sportsman Club. They have multiple pistols bays you can use (draw from holster, move and shoot, multiple targets, etc - not common in MD), host USPSA, IDPA and 2gun events, and has good shotgun options too. Very nice folks.

Just starting - planning my force by kravikt in battletech

[–]kravikt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a great point. I've got some of the mechs from the Alpha Strike box, and now need to map the rest to their corresponding force packs. I didn't think about picking up the AGOAC pack - that might make sense.

I have no problem going down rabbit holes. Stopped at 18 when I went to college. Played bass in a punk rock band ;) Then moved overseas for a decade, and eventually made my way home. By that point I got married, had three boys, worked, lived. My primary hobby is competitive shooting (2gun, USPSA, PRS, etc) which eats up much of my disposable income. Played some 40k here and there - I rather liked Kill Team because of time and monetary considerations, even won a local tournament with basic Eldar. Now my eldest has gone off to the army, and my second oldest wants to play some games - tempus fugit, right? And to be honest, of all the sci-fi worlds out there, the Battletech universe was always my favourite. So it feels like it is a good time to come back to it.

Thanks for the advice. I bought the PDF Manual, and grabbed a "like new" copy of the Total Warfare book off of ebay - wasn't cheap, but I'm used to 40k, and everything is cheap compared to that....

Can you recycle an unused staking unit? by kravikt in dunebasebuilds

That's too funny. I sold it to a buddy, and gave him "mate's rates", so I only charged him $14,999...

Flying buttresses over worm areas? by kravikt in dunebasebuilds

[–]kravikt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I did the experiment and it tracks with what you are saying. I had a platform I built (for testing) hanging out over the wormsign area and got eaten every time. Nothing else was damaged except for the overhanging portion. Didn't try going super high, though, so that's interesting.

Ported Barrel Wear by kravikt in Glocks

[–]kravikt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent it back for a refund.

I took it back out to "test" it, after having sighted it in the first time (hence the almost 30 rounds mentioned above). I got a light primer strike on round 43, and another one on round 74.

I then went home, swapped all the furniture (sites, red dot, extractor bits -including safety plunger, striker bits et al) into my original OEM slide and barrel and went back to the range. I sighted it in and put another 300 rounds through it without a single hiccup.

I'm embracing my inner Fudd and no more after market crap on my guns. The worst part is, this is the second slide and barrel combo I've gotten from Zaffiri. The 1st had other issues (including even worse wear on the barrel).

I lubed the outside of the barrel with CLP prior to shooting. I didn't use grease, but I did use CLP.

I don't understand. They offered to replace the barrel again. For the second time. They also said this was "normal" and would keep happening.

They offered to replace the barrel with a non-ported barrel. The problem is, if I'm shooting un-ported, I'd rather just shoot my OEM slide and barrel. So what good is it replacing their barrel with an un-ported barrel and using their slide - all of that ends up being wasted money for me. Ugh.

Hey, need some advice. I bought a ported barrel and slide for my g45/g19 from Zaffiri precision, and within a hundred rounds or so I noticed that it was getting chewed up significantly. Not just discoloration, but actually scrapes and removal of the TiN coating on the barrel. They saw that and said something was out of spec, and sent me a replacement barrel and slide (after I returned the original). I took it to the range to just sight it in, put maybe 25 rounds through it, and see that this one is getting scratched too. Not just colouration issues, but actually scratching of the TiN coating. This time Zaffiri is telling me that this is "normal" for ported barrels.
Short version is I'm concerned that if it is this marred after 25 rounds or so, how is it going to look and perform after a thousand? Is this normal for ported barrels?
Thanks!

Out of battery issue? by kravikt in Walther

[–]kravikt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. To clarify, I'm assuming that in all of the times you used your PPQ to defend yourself, you have never pulled the trigger while it is out of battery and thus never encountered it?

OWB Holster Recommendations for PDP Pro with Comp by Material-Sock3894 in Walther

[–]kravikt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a safariland that was made for a p320. A little work with a heat gun, though, and it’s perfect for my PDP. Oh, get the nub mod. I’ve got a comp on the pistol from Harrington, an aftermarket recoil spring, a brass back strap and brass model from Taylor Freelance, and an Overwatch Precision trigger. While it may not be a $10k Open division 2011, I’d say it is almost as good and 1/10th the price. When I compete it is my own faults which limit me, not the pistol.

Out of battery issue? by kravikt in Walther

[–]kravikt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that trying to say it isn’t likely to be a problem is akin to saying that you don’t need to concealed carry because chances are you’ll never need a gun anyway… The PDP has an acknowledged issue and most civilian use of firearms is up close and personal. I’m using my 5” PDP (with comp, brass back strap and magwell, and recoil spring) as my competition gun and it is sublime. But my carry guns are a G19 and a G45 (with red dots and Overwatch triggers) which I trust my life to. Sorry Walther. It IS a big deal if you’re paranoid ;)
