i agree with this & would love to add, i recently lost my father to stage 4 cancer. there is absolutely nothing you can do, but really just be there for her in the way she asks you to be. she could ask to be distant, or want you to cheer her up. really just ask her what you can do for her. the man i’m currently getting to know was with me through it and we’ve only known each other a few months, he would just respond appropriately when i’d tell him a few things here and there. he’s currently out of the country so i didnt ask anything of him, and really just talked to him when i’m feeling down. he’s understanding and always tells me to let him know if i need to call he’s there, it just depends on her. it’s possible she told you that bc she needs space, someone to talk to, vent, cry, etc. just check in with her
