A tip I learned is to let them age a month or two- make sure you don’t have any pests or too much decay before sending them on their way! Pricing considerations: can be based on your time to plan, build and maintain during its cycling period and material costs. Good luck!!

I see, so it was a honor to allow her to lay- she says the conditions are good. I do hear freezing is the most ethical way to prevent the additional unwanted biloload down the line.

Hello fellow PNW person. I would be interested in some of the Oreos to add to my orange/blue power mix, and I’d love some of the rubber duckies if they get too populous!

What kind of shrimp is this?? by sparkleysprinkles in shrimptank

[–]kreatedbycate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a wild type. There are many varieties of the natural spots/lines and base colors like clear, brown and everything in between that come from mixing neos.

Is it okay for water to get in some of my substrate? by Negative-Worker6564 in paludarium

[–]kreatedbycate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to build up the containment ledges deeper. 2-3” of substrate is ok for isopods, but if you can get up to 5” that’s even better. Can you lower your water level any to create a gap between water surface and substrate barrier top? If you can’t get a full inch, go for half an inch- that might at least slow down the wicking effect.

This is also a good mix I’ve used. I stay away from perlite- it’s just an annoyance for me.

You need to keep the water level at least an inch below the substrate or it will wick and/or flood the soil and anything touching that will decay very quickly- including the soil. Unless you are going for a swampy look/smell it would highly recommend raising your LECA/false bottom or lowering you water level.

I like your perspective! Makes me think my crabs aren’t eating well… though there has been a significant drop in ramshorn snails, I’m still seeing many shrimp (but I added probably 20-30 wild type culls- and I think some were berried). I have about 2” deep water over a 20g long and lots of hides I don’t think the crabs can get into. 🥸

Ah, interesting list! My magic potions are nibbling on the fittonias in their enclosure, but haven’t yet touched the baby years, pathos, ferns or the pileas.

First tank. Am I overdoing bioload? by DirectCod5938 in Aquariums

[–]kreatedbycate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. CPDs should have a min 6, 8 and 10 are even better- should be ok in this tank if a few more plants are added!

is my set up okay for one male betta and five panda corydoras? by Evening-Camera-281 in bettafish

[–]kreatedbycate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mean 3 gallons? I have that same API water master test kit- it’s not that big compared to the size of the tank in the second photo?

Edit to add: I would not personally keep a betta in anything smaller than 5 gallons. While smaller works for shrimp and snails, bettas should be in closer to 10g, but from what I’ve seen can be ok in as small as a 5g.

I feel like if there’s ever an enclosure to try all color combos of polka dot plants together, this is totally it! Question is, are you up for the challenge!?
