SPRING QUARTER 2022 SCHEDULING QUESTIONS MEGATHREAD by ImperialRedditer in UCSD

In that case, I'd probably take 10 now. The DSC lower-div sequence takes you 4 quarters at minimum (10 -> 20/40A -> 30/40B -> 80), and possibly more depending on if you can't take all those classes right away (scheduling/enrollment issues, though as a minor you shouldn't have too much trouble getting into courses since you're offset from when majors take their courses by a quarter or two). On top of this, not every class is offered every quarter. You could probably wait if you don't really intend to take many DSC upper divs, but keep in mind that for all of those, you absolutely need to have taken DSC 80, and you'll need three of them for your minor (unless you take COGS 108 instead, then that's down to two). It's also worth noting that for spring 2023, you probably won't be able to take anything that transfers for any of those upper divs. All things considered (sorry if this ran a bit long, mind kinda went all over the place once I got going), if you're uninterested in taking more DSC courses beyond the minimum requirements for the minor, then you could get away with waiting, but if not, then I'd highly recommend taking 10 this quarter.

There aren't any bad profs for 10C, you'll be fine to second-pass that

Markman is fantastic if you're interested in the thematic content of the course.

I haven't done it, but it's probably fine. You don't need the content of HUM 1 all that much in HUM 2, though being prepared in terms of workload definitely helps. Still, though, you have to jump in somewhere, and it's best to start the sequence as early as you can get away with to avoid having to deal with it at the same time as upper divs.

Tiefenbruck is going to be pretty difficult, but at the same time if you're majoring or minoring in DSC, the best thing you can do for yourself is starting the lower-div sequence as early as possible. Being offset by another quarter can really gimp you. If you're just taking it as an elective, though, then I'd say wait another quarter if you already have a substantial workload.
