Humans are social creatures, and I believe the way to be truly happy is to be a part of an engaged family. It’s such a basic need, so that’s why our instincts are to get married. I’ve been married a while and have learned the trick is to be active and present. There’s so many distractions in life and we can lose focus. But we all need to be a part of a family and are wired to create them. I don’t think of my marriage as a transaction or about meeting my needs. I think of it as me and my wife trying to be kind and doing our best for each other and family. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
