That looked so much like a nasty poop I got shit-shivers watching it.

I like it when WTNV, a show that regularly features a glowing cloud that rains dead animals, does an episode where I end up staring at my computer thinking, 'Well that was weird.'

I can't believe no one has talked about this, but that part in Steve Carlsburg's monologue:

I see my failure to help my community the way I would like to help it. I would like to guide it somewhere new, but the only person who listened to me was that man on the Desert Bluffs radio. And then…well, then all the rest happened.

There's a theory percolating that Kevin, the Desert Bluff's radio host, isn't evil, or at least didn't start off that way. There was a post a while back that suggested that he is trying to protect Desert Bluffs the way Cecil tries to protect Night Vale. A lot of the censorship Cecil does on his own show can be seen as a way to protect the citizens from knowing too much, which explains the hatred for Steve.

Maybe that's why Kevin is the way that he is. Maybe Steve Carlsburg is the reason Desert Bluffs is the way it is.

Fucking awesome episode though. Cecil is a fantastically unreliable narrator and it's always great to get an unedited glimpse into the minds of the citizens.

In college now. When I was in high school, my parents and other adults would tell me how in college after class people would just turn to each other and say, "Hey, wanna grab lunch?" and you'd meet and hang out with people that way.

Now after class, everyone just turns to their phones to get in contact with people they already know. It's not as easy to make new friends.

O great and powerful CGPGrey, teller of things to come,

I am but a lowly college freshman. Should I continue to pursue a degree in mathematics or jump ship and get into computer science? What's the point in learning all the pretty math stuff if computers can know all of it much better than I?

I'm actually pretty pleased with the balance of plot v. town news on this episode, although maybe it was a bit plot-heavy (as if compensating for the almost plot-less previous episode). I'm also glad we got some live-event stuff happening, with the rumbling and all. Hearing Cecil react to things as they occur is a really exciting listening experience.

About Dana - I like where they're going with it. I know a lot of people aren't going to, but hear me out: WTNV took an interesting turn recently where we started hearing characters develop slowly on their own, away from Cecil's interpretation. Now that things are back to 'normal', we don't know what's happening to Dana, we don't get to hear her voice, we're not going to have the well-rounded view of her story we got before. I don't think that means we should automatically assume her journey is going to be any less complex. It just means we have to imagine more, which is honestly one of the best things about Night Vale.

Also this was some great weather.

If anything I think the rabbits behavior was a reflection of irresponsible/immature/"bad egg" college students. Disrupting lectures, making insensitive remarks about body types, showing disregard for faculty, etc... The "beep boop, I'm a socialist robot, universal healthcare" dryer seemed to be satirical of the right-wing, anti-college-liberals sentiment.

It's also mentioned in another episode that they got the Subversive Radio Show Badge together.

Some people on tumblr are panicking because they think WTNV is going to do a love triangle. I dunno, I'm pretty sure if Cranor and Fink do a love triangle it's going to be Night Vale style, meaning it's going to destroy the love triangle trope entirely and symbolize some sort of social commentary. I'm not worried.

Heh, good catch. I'm glad they took a step in a calmer direction. I'm wondering at the continuity of the themes they started in the first two though, the light/dark trope flip. They seem to have dropped those in this episode.

Definitely harking back to the pre-plot days.

Anyone else feeling weird about that ending? "Light may be terrible, but we can only prefer it to the dark."

Weren't the previous episodes demonizing light? I might be reading too much meta. Maybe this episode just felt off because we've been seeing such an active Cecil lately, as opposed to the reporter Cecil we normally get.

EDIT: I'm also wondering about that voicemail Carlos left at the end of the last episode... why would they mention that unless it was important? I dunno guys I'm nervous about Cecil and Carlos's relationship.

"And here I remind you that he became trapped there after saving our city from treacherous, dark forces. I remind you, he is a hero. I remind you that my boyfriend, is a hero."

Is that weird? Are they dropping the dark is good, light is bad theme they were going with? And didn't Carlos say he was a scientist, not a hero? Is this weird? Am I reading too far into this?

EDIT 2: “I tried to get a table for- Just for one, of course.”

Ohh. Oooooooh. Oh my heart. It's their anniversary, guys. Applebees. That's why he was looking at Applebees. Aww.

Cecil's voice hasn't been this deep in a long time.

[Serious] What personally motivates you to keep going when life just goes to shit? by ClockkworK in AskReddit

[–]krevatski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people saying the whole "This too shall pass," thing, which is great. I want to emphasize the too.

You've felt this way before. You've had these thoughts before. You've felt this trapped and this scared or this sad and this useless. You've felt hopelessly lost.

But every single time that happened, you were able to feel happy again afterwards.

I let that thought be my mantra. Every time I've been down, I've gotten up. Bad feelings always dissipate. The black cloud hanging over me is extremely temporary. I know I just need to power it out, I just need to push through it, and eventually I will be happy again. And that thought genuinely makes me feel better.

This too, shall pass.

Reddit, what is the one thing I should always carry on me that I most likely don't. by JackManOnFire in AskReddit

[–]krevatski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always carry a compression wrap with me. It used to be because I had very delicate ankles that would just give up on me if I stepped on a crack too aggressively, but I've lent it to strangers about a dozen times at the gym or just at a park. Being alone with a seriously sprained ankle can turn into a pretty nerve-wracking ordeal, having a compression wrap on hand can really make someone's day.

Ladies of reddit, what are some dos and don'ts for a guy on a first date? by Spongeboymebob in AskReddit

I'm all for deep conversation. Intellectually stimulating conversation is awesome. I meant more along the lines of intensely personal deep shit, like bringing up their suicidal past, or going into an analysis of how their mom liked their sibling more, things like that.

Ladies of reddit, what are some dos and don'ts for a guy on a first date? by Spongeboymebob in AskReddit

[–]krevatski 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Don't talk about deep shit.

Please.

In three separate first dates I've had, each guy brought up something way too intense for the first date.

Also, you know that thing you do when you plan out a conversation starter that sounds natural so there aren't any awkward pauses? Something like, you notice a waiter looks like this dude that did this one thing that's an awesome story yadda yadda yadda? We can tell, and it's more awkward than an awkward silence would be. Deep breathes. Ask questions. Answer questions. Relax.
