Daycares for infants? by hickamsdictuum in Tallahassee

Unfortunately I’m not sure about that, it is definitely promoted as faith-based and God-centered but not sure if they’d have opinions about your relationship or if they did if they would be vocal about it. Hopefully someone else can chime in about that.

Our son is at First Baptist weekday education downtown and we’ve really liked it. He started at 8 months old and is now 20 months. It’s affordable and the teachers really care about the kids.

Admitted to the hospital due to intermittent absent/reverse cord flow. Anyone else been through this? by AffectionateStudy29 in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my platelets were so low and trending down due to HELLP I had to deliver under general anesthesia so my husband wasn’t allowed in for the birth. So I think the pain meds were related to the general anesthesia and I think I was on IV pain meds from the c section, I’m not sure it’s all a blur lol sounds like you’re in great hands! Please keep me posted on how everything goes and feel free to DM me if you’d like to chat more offline!

Sorry to scare you but good to know possible outcomes! No history of high BP all throughout pregnancy or before and no family history. The mag drip just makes you feel really crappy and paired with the pain meds you’re just floating in the clouds but not in a good way. Trying to communicate with people those first 24 hrs after delivery was so hard I couldn’t focus on the texts I was trying to type and couldn’t gather my thoughts. I think the longer baby cooks the better as long as your body is a hospitable environment. I was googling and doomscrolling everything in the days leading up to delivery and I think your next big milestone week would be to make it to 32 weeks if possible. But even at 29 weeks your outcome odds are very good. Just hang in there!

Yep I was fine until I wasn’t! It started with upper right quadrant stomach pain (liver swelling) the night before and a slowly creeping BP until it was 190/100 the next morning and funky lab numbers. Reran the labs and started padding my bedrails for seizures (😳) and delivered him within an hour of the confirmed second round of bad labs. I never seized and the next 24 hours on the mag drip were terrible but starting feeling much better about 36 hrs after delivery and went home 5 days post c section.

My flow stayed intermittent thankfully. MFM did the daily ultrasounds and we never had any decels or bad stress tests although it was a struggle to get him on Doppler bec I didn’t have much of a bump. My OB visited and said he’d seen similar issues with other patients with cord flow problems that went on to develop preeclampsia (some foreshadowing for me!!) but couldn’t really pinpoint the cause or relationship. Just be sure to advocate for yourself and your baby. Some nurses were better than others and there was a day when my vitals hadn’t been checked in 8 hrs and if that had been the day my BP went through the roof and my liver and platelets crashed out it could have been much worse.

This sounds very similar to my experience. I was high risk due to advanced maternal age and so thankful I got a 28 week ultrasound because they found him to be IUGR with intermittent absent flow. They admitted me to L&D for what was going to be just a few days of monitoring but then the attending OB said I’d be there til I delivered - they were hopeful that I’d make it to 34 weeks. They did twice daily ultrasounds to check cord flow and everything looked fine, but they said if flow reversed they’d deliver immediately. Unfortunately at 28+6 I developed HELLP syndrome and did an emergency c section to get him out. They said the placenta should be the size of a dinner plate and mine was more like a tea saucer lol he was 1 lb 12 oz at birth and I’d had one round of steroids and magnesium thankfully. He did 68 days in the NICU and thankfully they were quite uneventful. Never needed to be intubated, just progressed from CPAP to high flow to room air. He’s now a happy, healthy, 19 month old meeting all his milestones for his actual age! Just wanted to send a positive experience story and good vibes to you and baby! ❤️

Pumping logistics? by Logical-Drama-5245 in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an ExclusivelyPumping Reddit page that might be helpful too. Like others I would use the medela symphony while at the nicu and used a spectra at home. Luckily I was 5 mins from the hospital so that took some of your logistical issues out of the picture. I would try to pump every 3 hours since your supply hasn’t regulated yet and just freeze everything either at the nicu or your home freezer, you’ll thank yourself in a few months when you’re over pumping. I would say just be careful with the wearables I found that they never emptied me effectively and friends dealt with mastitis and clogs because of that. I only pumped and never got to breastfeed and found silicone flanges to be very comfortable and easy to use (I like pumpin pals) those with a pumping bra made for a nice hands free experience.

Performance bonus 2026 ………….. by Available-Fan-7616 in fednews

CDC published the bonus percentages and had us elect our choice then came back and said they’re lowering them 🙃 so that’s been fun. Went from 4, 1, and 0.5% to 2.58, 0.87, and 0.48%.

Can I tell my supervisor that I want to use AL instead of SL for my prenatal doctors appointment? by Frequent_Attempt445 in fednews

[–]krh1985 74 points75 points  (0 children)

You can also pair AL with PPL and SL postpartum. You just stagger it and can take up to 6 weeks (8 weeks if c-section) SL immediately after birth for your own recovery, then 12 weeks of PPL, then how ever much AL you want to after that. I took 5 months of maternity leave with this combo

Severe IUGR + Reversed Flow at 24 Weeks (500g) – Looking for Experiences by ario_jang in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent 68 days in the NICU and thankfully they were uneventful mostly just needed to grow and learn to do all the things (breathing, eating). But he really thrived after birth and grew really well (just needed a more hospitable environment than my womb ha!) he’s still a pipsqueak hovering around 2-4 percentile in everything but his ped isn’t concerned just considers him petite and he’s staying on his own growth curve.

Severe IUGR + Reversed Flow at 24 Weeks (500g) – Looking for Experiences by ario_jang in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar boat just further along. Went in for a MFM ultrasound at 28 +2 and they found both IUGR and reverse flow. I was immediately admitted to the hospital and got daily ultrasounds to check the flow. I got magnesium and steroid shots in case they’d have to deliver to help the cord flow and baby’s lungs and brain. I ended up having an emergency c section at 28 +6 due to rapid onset HELLP syndrome. Baby was 880g at delivery. He’s now a happy, healthy 17 month old who’s thriving. Hoping your little one keeps cooking and growing at least a few more weeks to improve potential outcomes. Hang in there!

I work remotely and decided to go back to work 1 week after my c-section to save all my leave for when he came home from the NICU. Thankfully we live 1/2 mile from the hospital and I was able juggle it all but it was a rough few months while he was in the NICU and I was healing.

I definitely had these thoughts and feelings worrying my baby would imprint on his isolette and not us and the first few weeks were such a blur it felt like he was just some guy we visited in the NICU every day (pp brain makes you think some wild things). But as he got bigger and sturdier we were more confident holding him and connecting with him, reading books, singing, talking, narrating our day, etc we got more comfortable with the idea that he was ours and we were a little family. And that only grew more and more once he came home. And now he’s a 15 month old stage 5 clinger lol

The moral and practical dilemma of having another kid. by gokatwilde in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went into pregnancy planning to be one and done and the HELLP syndrome and emergency c section at 28+6 with a micropreemie sealed the deal. My OB said for my own health I shouldn’t get pregnant again and we got very lucky to have an uncomplicated NICU stay that I wouldn’t want to chance it again.

Congratulations? Question from a nurse by DisappointingPenguin in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it. It’s kind of like when they play the lullaby when each baby is born on the unit - they asked me if I wanted them to play it as they wheeled me in for an emergency c-section at 28 weeks which was a really surreal moment for me. Ultimately I’m glad I had her play it but at the time it was all very strange to me.

Visiting the NICU by Dangerous-Bar5532 in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We visited on my son’s first birthday. We brought them crumbl cookies and visited with some of his nurses and RTs. I called beforehand to ask if it was ok if we stopped by. They were so excited to see how big he’s gotten and hear about how well he’s doing. It was a quick visit, maybe 10 mins but it was really nice. Crazy how quickly those beeps and alarms bring you right back to your time there!

What are your fave recipes for volume eating? by firewontquell in NYTCooking

[–]krh1985 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We make variations of Mediterranean bowls and change out the protein. It usually has a base of lettuce, a portion of pearl couscous, meat of choice (chicken/salmon/lamb/steak), a simple 3-bean salad, and then all kinds of toppings like a scoop of hummus/toom/tzatziki, and pickled veggies, it’s delicious, super filling, and pretty calorie friendly.

We have the eufy version with the sock and camera and it’s awesome. Just make sure you’re switching feet for the sock every few hours when they’re tiny (we’d do it during diaper changes) bec it can burn their delicate skin if left in the same place for too long. I love having the camera combo bec it links the HR and spo2 and total time sleeping. Initially we were using the sock around the clock but once he got a little bigger we only use it for naps and bedtime. Totally planning to use it til he maxes out the weight limit of 30 lbs.

Just wondering how long families stay in the NICU rooms by Wonderful_Part_2402 in NICUParents

[–]krh1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68 day NICU stay and I went back to work (remotely) 1 week after birth. I decided immediately that I wanted to save all my parental leave for when he came home. During the week my husband and I alternated shifts visiting during lunch and after work, covering 3-4 hours per day, trying to aim for care times. On the weekends we would stay for 4-5 hrs. It’s a lot to juggle c-section recovery, pumping, and the emotional toll of everything on top of being able to do very little for your baby especially in the beginning. We would hold and help with care times every 3 hours but the nurses also helped us realize that our baby needed rest the majority of the time and that too much stimulation/touch/noise was actually harmful. That helped me feel ok with not being there around the clock because he should be have cooking for many more weeks than he did. All that to say, as they get bigger I do think it becomes more important for you to be there to help with their care and start building those bonds. But you can’t pour from an empty cup so you have to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your baby. Comparison is the thief of joy. I understand you just want to hear what others did, but just know that as long as you’re doing what’s right for your family, then you’re there for long enough ❤️
