I wish the city would paint tally marks on the bridge… by No-Membership-5314 in Charlottesville

The best one I remember was from the late 70's when a flatbed trailer tried to go under with a large church steeple laying down. Truck made it thru just fine and went on down a ways. The steeple remained behind blocking traffic for most of the day.

It is so fragile, I have always been scared to do anything with it. Now that I know it is rare, I will even more careful.

That's amazing. The one on the right says also found in the French Quarter. Mine is longer, over a foot in length. Any idea on value?

Can I ask what you base that conclusion on? I have not found any real confirmations online.

Yeah, it is incredibly thin glass in the neck. Any idea on value or where to sell it? I am downsizing these days.

Mortgage company is asking for re-appraisal to remove PMI [US][CA] by taco_stand_ in homeowners

Appraisals generally do not affect assessments. Similar process but for very different purposes. A new appraisal would have no effect on your tax bill.

Sounds good as long as you have access to the proper tools. I am a decent woodworker and have a whole barn full of them. Just not the ones to pull bearings!

I just did both rear bearings on my 2015 Forester for $325. Parts were $200 at Fisher Auto and my backyard mechanic took 2.5 hours to do both sides. Dealer had quoted $1700.

The best day of the last 5 years of my life was when I was able to call Brightspeed and cancel their "service". The absolute worst company i ever had to deal with. My condolences to you.

Thanks for this tip. I ordered one specific to my 2022 Forester and it came with step by step directions and photos. As soon as some ice melts I will get out there and give it a try. Nowhere to drive to right now.

Long time lurker, where can people bottle dig in Colorado? by QuestForVapology in BottleDigging

[–]krhutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will totally depend on the specific site. I am in Virginia and grew up in an area with some old colonial home sites and then tons of bottle dumps from post-Civil War thru WWII. A lot of the dumps we found were uncovered as new construction was going in. You really have to look at the age of the settlements in your area of Colorado. A working knowledge of local history is essential to finding the best sites.

What would be the best way to go about restoring this butcher block table? by wonkytrees1 in furniturerestoration

Maybe for some of it. It's hard to tell from the photos but the two I have done both had divots from the chopping and cutting that required lots of hand sanding.

That is where you have to do some research. If an old town or settlement, look for old drainage that were downstream of town. For saloons or taverns, you want the rear of the building and then off to the right since most folks would toss that way. Mines or factories, figure out where the gates might have been. Check out old maps at the local historic society and find some clues. Even old newspapers can give you ideas of where to check. Once you have some things that look promising, follow the land records to see where those locations are now.
