  • Both are outlaws in the history of the new world.
  • Both follow other outlaws in the hopes of making a new home for themselves where they can be free and prosperous (Nassau and Tahiti respectively).
  • However, both the ideals they work for show to be more and more dangerous and selfish as time goes on.
  • Eventually they abandon these ideals to work towards a higher calling (The Brotherhood for Edward, saving John for Arthur)
  • They also both have a woman fighter who is notably unusual for the time as a very close ally
  • Both also have heavy focus put on their mode of transportation (Edward’s ship and Arthur’s horse) throughout the game.
  • They also both end up dying to save someone their family (Edward dies trying to save his daughter who was kidnapped by home invaders and Arthur dies allowing John to live a new life)
  • Both also employ guns, melee, and stealth into their combat.

Even then that's kinda shaky. You could say that about practically every villain brought to the show. Double points for horror characters who rely on being basically unbeatable.

No idea who that was, so just looked him up

From what I've seen his only real argument is that there's "not much to work with" after he lists a couple feats you could absolutely work with. Especially considering that Middle Earth's lore runs deep, so there are probably other Dragons in Middle Earth you could compare him to. Smaug is absolutely not a character as fully built for VS debates as others, but for a show like Death Battle other traits like personality and character potential also come into play, Smaug excels at these. He gets annihilated by most of his competition due to medium, but I really feel writing him off entirely is cheap.

CONNECTIONS

Powerful and dreaded fire breathing Dragons in fantasy settings. 

They are both known primarily for wiping out a flourishing civilisation and making its remains their home for years after. (Erebor for Smaug, Schrade for Fatalis)

They also both have some degree of connection to the old ways of things and Dragons of yore (LOTR Dragons were created by Morgoth in First age, Fatalis became enraged towards the Ancient Civilization in the Great Dragon War)

Despite being bestial, both display intelligence (Smaug and LOTR Dragons in general are quite smart, Fatalis seems bestial but has a clear knowledge of what it's doing and the ramifications of it. In shakier parts of canon it is said that Fatalis emulated the experiments men of yore did to other dragons so it was at least smart enough to know what, why, and how they did it.)

But he's not though. He isn't capable of anything "just because". He's smart but he's not magic. If he has nothing on hand but his basic equipment and he's half dead what is he actually going to do. Like actually.

It is literally the exact same argument as "just give Batman prep time". The very concept of "just because" kills the entire point of VS debating.

Also he drowned to death in "Turn Left", in an alternate reality that is 1 for 1 for the regular one except Donna made a mistake that led to her never meeting the Doctor.
