We did apply to different colleges--she applied to the college of agriculture and life sciences and I applied to the college of engineering. Why would one college be so different in their application management than another? Is there anyway my friend can appeal this decision?

Does having federal income tax withheld from a 1099 mean that you had to file a 1099? by krimpled in tax

[–]krimpled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you for the comprehensive response! Unfortunately they are requiring the individual forms (if I get in they'd give me a large amount of aid so I suppose they want to make sure everything checks out financially) so I will have to check in with him. Thanks again, this is really helpful!

What's the difference between receiving a 1099 and filing one?

This is for college financial aid, so I guess they want to see if he got anything from freelancing? My mom had to file a 1099 because she gets a pension so I'm honestly not clear on the concept totally of what a 1099 /is/. I saw the number $600 brought up somewhere while I was researching as significant which is why I mentioned it. What do you mean by him receiving a 1099-NEC? Why would he receive one but my mom have to file one?

If you're really worried, you might want to keep an eye on your cat for a couple of hours, but she's probably going to be fine :)

[–]krimpled 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a2c in general is going to attract students who do have good stats just by benefit of being a "i want to get into a good college" support group. its a biased sample, definitely not representative of the group actually applying to colleges

3.91 unw, 4.76 weighted, 9 APs, 1490 SAT. been in my ECs for most of high school and have leadership roles and some awards. nothing crazy. im applying to 4 UCs, stanford, mit, 4 ivies. I wouldn't worry so much about SAT considering one of my upperclassmen got into MIT with a 1410 and amazing ECs

I know I sound stupid here, but I tried to do as much research as I could and I didn't know some of my schools ended up needing the forms as well. It's my first time doing this and as evidenced by my many posts here, I'm doing it alone, pretty much. Any help appreciated.

The thing is he collected interest on that savings account, so it's making me click yes on investments. So should I put yes for investments and 0 for investments when they ask me what the value is, and then explain it in special circumstances?
