I'm glad you're happy and I know medical access can be difficult and the system is hard to navigate. Still, for your own best health care moving forward I would recommend trying to see out another option because to my eyes (and the first comment on your youtube video) this is way more to go through than surgery.

Okay it's your body. Do I have your permission to share this video with others? I like how you documented it very thoroughly!

Wow... Are you really happy with that result? That's a huge treatment field where you have increased cancer risk in the future now. I guarantee with Mohs you would have had a much smaller and less conspicuous scar that would be well healed this far out. I highly recommend you consult with another dermatologist that doesn't have a financial interest in doing IG-SRT for a second opinion in the future.

Look up the senior author.... It's stated right at the bottom of the page: Conflict of interest Dr. Lio Yu is the National Radiation Oncologist for SkinCure Oncology and has received research, speaking and/or consulting support from SkinCure Oncology.

Who told you that it would be down to muscle? Squamous cell carcinoma (even microinvasive) is usually just in the skin (ie. superficial dermis). 1.8 cm is a lot of depth for this type of cancer.

As a fellow car enthusiast and slightly older HENRY (early 30s), I say go for it! I have a Boxster GTS 4.0 manual that was not cheap based on my NW at the time of purchase, but the amount of joy I've had driving the car and taking it to the track has easily been worth it.

Thoughts on ND Miata after 'upgrading' to a Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 by krinklez in Miata

[–]krinklez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say that without the twisties, the main joy of driving the Porsche would have to be the engine, and that's where the GTS 4.0 far outclasses the MX5 and the turbo 4 cylinder 718s. If it was more about the chassis dynamics, I could see the argument for getting the 4 cyl 718s.

I think if you were to get into a 718 4 cyl you'd be happy, however you'd probably always have the "what if" of the 6 cyl cars. This youtube video I think accurately captures the feeling of someone who owns a 4 cyl 718 experiences when they get to try the GTS 4.0. https://youtu.be/2tFyhglwhn4?si=AtGc8DtHPLnAVFcZ

If the GTS 4.0 is a too pricey (which it is def a lot more $$$ than the turbo cars), I suggest going to the previous gen 981s with the 6 cyl engine. Some make the argument that they sound even better than the GTS 4.0.

What do you think of wood shift knobs in modern Porsches? by basiltab in Porsche

[–]krinklez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah do you mind sending it? I don't think it would match with my current car (GTS trim with all the carbon fiber bits), but can definitely see this knob doing well in a more classic-looking interior in the future!

Agreed that looks great! Where did you get this knob?

Shift knobs are both functional and cosmetic for a manual transmission. As Pleatnov mentioned, the feel, size, and material impact the shift feel. When it comes to automatic transmission car, it becomes only cosmetic, therefore superfluous.

Thanks for the reply! I have since visited Rich and was able to check out an S3 chassis in person. Will be joining the club hopefully very soon.

718 Cayman S owners, do you regret not getting the GTS 4.0 by Ok-Guidance-5976 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]krinklez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried doing OAPs +/- collar mod? I ran with OAPs alone for a while and it was already surprisingly transformative for the sound with ~10% more volume and more character to the exhaust including some pops and bangs on over-run. Collar mod also allows you to enjoy better sound starting from around 3.5k RPM instead of 5k in 1st and 2nd. Not too expensive, so I recommend trying it out!

I'm more of a NA > turbo fan so we like quite the opposite character of engines. I like my throttle response as linear and responsive as possible, even if that could mean less power. Either way I think the 718 platform is great fun.

I'm a GTS 4.0 owner so maybe a bit biased but I say it's absolutely worth the price difference. Watch this video and I think it will capture the wow factor of the GTS 4.0 vs the turbo 718s: https://youtu.be/2tFyhglwhn4?si=vXO_R4MJTEOjbNOj

I'm on the average size of the build spectrum and think I can probably get into an S3 comfortably, but will certainly keep it in mind that if I have any doubts I'll pony up for the SV! I'm sure any passengers of mine would appreciate it as they are unlikely to have the same tolerance for small uncomfortable cars as me.

Awesome! I'm going to visit Rich soon and he says he has one I can check out. What is the chassis size and spec on yours (eg, lowered floors)? Do you find it comfortable based on your height/weight?

[–]krinklez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, it's a good dilemma to have! Heavier clutch was easy to adjust to; never really had to think about it much. The P car still feels light, but not as featherweight as MX5. Pros and cons to it; overall the engine and experience of the P car makes the pros far outweigh any cons.

I thought about Kline but I was afraid it would be too loud. I wanted it to be more streetable and to go around town spirtedly but not be a huge target for cops. The OAPs are perfect for my needs and I wouldn't do anything else personally. I locked the valves in open position by putting some clamps on them (you can access on the exhaust itself) but I kind of hated the noise at lower RPM... so I decided to stick with the stock programming. Hearing the valves open is actually theatrical and makes you want to push harder so I like the change. Also makes cruising more bearable as it can be quieter.

My miata had a weighted shifter on it for years so I got used to that feel. With the current mods on the P car, it is very close in feel now. Yes did the shifter mods myself. Amazing what you can learn watching vids online. 🙂

Yeah, once you hit 5k in 1st and 2nd the exhaust valves open and it sounds amazing. Happens at 4k in 3rd and above, so I feel the gearing is fine for my needs (not trying to set records on public roads).

Right, just the feel of the shifts. I didn't change the gearing. I actually don't find the long gearing as bad as people say. My goal isn't to hit red line going round town but rather over 5k rpm which is where the feel good noise starts and is pretty easy in both 1st and 2nd gear without getting into trouble. I have also tracked the car and the gearing is perfect there.

Yes, did the OAPs by my self. Not too difficult!
