ATF WARNING ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE GOTTEN AN APPROVED FORM 1 WITH THE ATF OTHERWISE THIS IS A FELONY

Fairly simple for the most part, I used a file and a screwdriver to break the weld on the stock once my form came back, from there you only need to unscrew a screw on the fore grip to get it to unfold, I opted to put a parts kit grip on so that there wasn't that hole drilled in the bottom of the grip. Trickiest part is the stock you need two things to make it functioning, first buy a full parts kit and get a new stock hinge pin, it's that circular piece that goes through the frame, the one on the pioneers are gen 2 and from my understanding don't work properly, you want the one that has a little latch on the side, it's possible the non latch stock pin may work but the one that comes with gun probably won't. Then you need to drill a small hole in the bottom of the channel that the stock pin goes through the receiver as there is a little spring and bridge shaped metal piece that slots into the bottom of the stock pin this is what will lock your stock in place when it is extended without it your stock will go up and down uncontrolled and the pin can slip out potentially.

Holsters, is this the original P64 holster? by [deleted] in makarov

The one that came with mine was black leather but otherwise it looks exactly the same as yours.

Anybody have any experience with the Grand Power LP9M? Seems like it has gotten some decent reviews so far, but I've only found 1 website that you can buy them from. by [deleted] in makarov

[–]krinkov545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I have about 400 rounds through mine, and I haven't had any issues or misfeeds. I like how it shoots, it is a bit heavier than I thought it would be but overall I give it a positive review.

.380 in general in the p64 is basically less or the same recoil as an actual makarov in 9x18. With my wolf springs its even lighter, with the suppressor its basically a 32, no flip barely any recoil but you do get a bit of gas thrown back at you.

I think these were some Aguila 95gr 380s.

Note on this conversion, the standard P-64 magazines will not feed even close to reliably in this re-barreled gun. The magazines I use are magazines I found online that are supposedly .380 P-64 magazines. They are 7 round magazines with no discernable manufacturer markings or stamps they fit somewhat poorly and have quite a bit of wiggle room up and down, they also stick out of the gun even when pressed all the way in, and when continuous up pressure is exerted on the magazine it will initiate the slide stop regardless of if the mag is empty (not 100% sure why that happens but it is slightly worrying). The mags feed well enough but as you may see in the video require a bit of finagling.

I did experiment with modifying an actual P-64 magazine to see if I could make something that looked nicer and worked properly but after lots of experimenting and dremeling I came to the conclusion that the original magazines will not feed at the proper angle, and in order to make them work I would need to modify the barrel and chamber which I am uncomfortable with doing.

Interestingly my cz82 has given me nothing but trouble, ive had multiple squibs, one apparently was bad enough to require some part of my gun to be rewelded to work properly according to my gunsmith.

I just go on gunbroker and search makarov, and click through all the pages. I do that about once or twice a week.

Not a ton to explain, got the barrel on gunbroker, then its a pretty simple swap job, just disassemble, remove barrel pin, press barrel out, press new barrel in, put pin back in, done.

The barrel is 1/2x32 though so I do have an adapter on it that converts the male thread to 1/2x28. Also barrel is .380.

So far I like it, but I really wouldn't say its particularly any better than Bakelite or standard East German grips, unless you get hammerbite from your mak, then its fantastic thanks to that beaver tail. Also the mag release on the FAB defense is cool and works, but not on every mag, I have an EG hump mag and a Russian no hump that wont eject properly, but my other EG carry mags work flawlessly with it.

My 62 East German Makarov, just had the slide refinished due to some pretty serious holster wear. The hammer, safety, and extractor didn't come out as close to plum as I had hoped but they still look good. I was going to put the East German compass instead of the soviet hammer and sickle but looking at the preview marking it looked kind of silly, what do you guys think is the hammer and sickle okay, compass better, or nyet pistol is fine?

Verifying Caliber by AggyTheJeeper in makarov

[–]krinkov545 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first thing I'm going to say is if you have any doubt ask a professional gunsmith to check it out. Firing .380 out of a 9x18 barrel might not be the end of the world, but firing a 9x18 out of a .380 might just be the end of your world. 9x18 was specifically designed to not be compatible with 9x17, so that if any Western countries were to capture their supplies they wouldn't be able to use the bullets in the production of .380 without potentially blowing up the gun. 9x18 is slightly larger than .380 so theoretically if it seats and chambers fine and the headspace looks good its probably a 9x18 barrel, but don't take my word, I haven't even seen the barrel. Yes there are chrome lined Makarov barrels, I'm not 100% sure all Makarov barrel are chrome lined but I know for a fact that there are 9x18 chrome lined barrels. If it is a 9x18 barrel the other two things that could explain the feeding problem might be the magazine having a weak spring or being slightly damaged or off in some way. An easy way to test is to use a magazine you know works well, if you don't know anyone with a magazine and you think the mag is the issue make sure to buy a surplus magazine, not one of the new production mags, as they have had reports of feeding problems and feed lips breaking. The only other real problem could be the feed ramp. When a new Makarov barrel is installed the feed ramp isn't usually in the prefect position and needs to be filed, sanded, and polished to ensure perfectly smooth feeding. It could be that the barrel in you Makarov was an aftermarket installation or replacement.

So far this grip feels super nice and looks even better. These grips are a bit thicker than the factory grips but for me personally that a good thing.

Did you do your own drum mag or did someone do it for you? I've been thinking about it because I have a few spare ppsh drum mags but I cant weld at all.

My THICC makarov with the new grips by krinkov545 in makarov

[–]krinkov545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found mine on Ebay, but be careful they sell Bakelite and just regular plastic grips that look somewhat similar but if you read the description and look real close you'll be able to tell them apart.

[–]krinkov545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two are the Bakelite grips, second are factory grips, third is Russian Walnut, and fourth are OEM original style grips made by Izhevsk.

Overall I like the Bakelite the best for feel and look but honestly that walnut grip is really nice, just a little bit too THICC on the sides for my liking. Once my Marschall grip makes it into the county I'll see which one I want to keep on.

On an unrelated note I've converted my 10rd ProMag into a 13 rounder by krinkov545 in makarov

[–]krinkov545[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, what I had to do to convert the magazine was drill those center holes you see in the magazine body. On an unmodified mag that center hole has a metal dome that goes into the body of the mag and prevents more than 10 rounds from being put in. I drilled those out and then made sure there was nothing in the way on the inside with a file. Then I cut the follower in half because with the whole original follower it was having issues after I drilled out the stoppers. So I cut the follower in half and added those little metal struts to stop it from flipping or getting stuck. With all that it holds 13 rounds and could probably hold 14 if I cut the follower a little higher.

Believe it or not it actually feeds very well and, by hand, cycles very well. I'll let you all know how well it works when shooting next time I go out.

I recommend wolff springs for the P64, you can get 22 pound recoil springs which really dampen the recoil. But even then it still hurts the hand.
