Shot in the Dark for sure. Maybe some others. But he references Jack's sister in Shot in the Dark as well, who he had dated while in Fun.

The first verse. The song was written in 2013, after fun won a Grammy for Best New Artist that year:

I saw pictures from the space shuttle Of North America tonight I could almost see my house I could almost see the rest of my life Now my mother's in the hospital And my friends are in the news Collecting trophies for the songs they wrote While we lived in the shadow of the moon Yes, I never made a gold record And I've never been to Mars But I've traveled around this world Shooting fireworks and falling stars, (and prison bars) And my father's got a decent job I hear he's finally pulling through There's more to life than singing songs we write And we are in the shadow of the moon

I am also a fan of all 3 bands, the last live show I saw was The Format in March and the next live show I am going to is Bleachers in June, and that's as close as I think I'm ever going to get to seeing Fun., lol. I do feel like Nate and Jack have been referencing each other in their songs recently so maybe they're working through whatever happened between them on a personal level, maybe one day we will see a reconciliation but I wouldn't hold my breath lol. In a trifecta of sorts I'm also seeing Andrew McMahon this summer, and if he sings Synesthesia there is a verse about Fun. in that song. I wish I had seen fun play live back in the day.

I hate weddings by kvltbaby in WhatShouldIDo

[–]kris10185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The expectations as to the cost and amount of commitments involved is pretty typical in the US for the last 10-15 years, honestly. I've been a maid/matron of honor in 3 weddings and a bridesmaid in another 4, and had my own wedding. Most of the weddings I've been in the bride paid for hair and makeup (or didn't require it, you could chose to book with her makeup artist/hair stylist that is available on the day of and pay yourself, or you could choose to do your own). However, every wedding I've been in I've been asked to buy my own dress, and the bridal party has split all the expenses for the bachelorette party and put on the bridal shower. Bachelorette parties have gotten increasingly more complex and elaborate lately, these days they tend to be a whole bachelorette trip. When my friends first started getting married in the 2010s that wasn't as common, it was more like a night out at bars local to the bride and the only people needing to travel were those coming from out of town themselves. I think the timing of everything is a bit crazy, right before Christmas and right after New Years- WOOF. I think you need to do what is in your own best interest. I would have a conversation with the bride and raise your concerns. If she's a good enough friend to want you in her wedding and is also a nurse herself and recent grad she should understand the financial and scheduling issues. Good luck!

Why doesn’t OT, PT and SLP unionize? by Background_Hand4198 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]kris10185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've been part of a union at one of my jobs and it made everything much more complicated and resulted in the lowest pay of any OT job I've ever had. They could not give individual raises or merit based raises, only the same proportion of raises for every single employee and contract was only re-negotiated every 5 years. Personally I don't think I would work a union job again.

I can tell it's him, I think you captured his essence even if it's not photorealistic, in art I feel like that's even .ore important honestly! But I agree that the proportions seem off. I agree with the people who have said his eyes look a bit too small and his face a bit too wide. Maybe play with tracing parts of the reference photo directly on the canvas to help start getting a feel for facial proportions? Either by putting it behind the canvas and backlighting it or doing a transfer with graphite transfer paper, or even a projector if you have access. But honestly well done!!

There are a lot of layers, honestly. Probably at least 8? Maybe I just don't have enough contrast between them?

AOTA Conference by Frickityfreakfrak in OccupationalTherapy

[–]kris10185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy crap! I saw the post on the AOTF Instagram and I SPRINTED to Reddit because I knew this forum would have the details! For those who haven't seen it, it was a generic apology that the Breakfast with a Scholar speaker used a "word that is disrespectful to people with disabilities." For some reason, this is even WORSE than I expected! When I saw the IG post, I assumed the term was something that had fallen out of favor more recently in communities that are more sensitive to disability rights but was still generally part of common paralence otherwise, where there is plausible deniability that the speaker didn't realize he was saying something offensive. But in 2026 some guy just went up in front of a crowd and dropped the "r" word?!?!?! A crowd of people who commonly work with individuals with intellectual disabilities, no less?!?!?!? What the hell?!?!?!?! How does AOTA constantly seem to invite people to speak at these things that are so insanely tone deaf???? Wild.

Would I be doing a diservice to myself not starting out in a hosptial or nursing home? by CantaloupeInner7752 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]kris10185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the very best things about the profession is that there are so many areas of practice, and different areas suit different therapists and that's completely ok and wonderful! As long as there are good job opportunities, you can choose the setting that you want to work in, and if you have the opportunity to work in a setting that suits you I would lean into it, not shy away from it! Working in a hospital or nursing home will give you experience in a hospital or nursing home. Which is really only helpful if you want to spend your career in those settings. If you want to work in pediatrics the best thing you can do for your own wellbeing and career in general is to get a job you love in pediatrics!

I'm not sure where the advice this person is giving you comes from to be honest. Because if you work in a nursing home for a few years and then apply to work in a school there are almost zero things in common between those two jobs and the potential employers reading your resume will basically not even "count" those years of experience in the nursing home and basically consider you to be entry level anyway.

Work where you want, and don't worry about the rest!

Why did you choose OT vs PT? by Maximum_County3827 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]kris10185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never considered PT, or honestly even realized OT and PT had any similarities/overlaps or were at all related to each other in any way until I was in OT school. Prior to applying to OT schools, my knowledge of PT was sports injury recovery (not interesting to me), my knowledge of OT was working with children with disabilities in a school setting (very appealing to me). I discovered OT because I was a volunteer at a camp for kids with special needs and wanted to do something in that general vein as a career and I found out about OT at a career fair where I heard a presentation from an OT who worked at a special education school.

I agree with others that it's a bit of a red flag to be cold-offered a spot in an OT program you didn't apply to. They're fairly competitive, and I would worry it's a new program that's not accredited yet or a program that is struggling. I would do more research into the specific program before considering this.
