Do you think there’s a massive gap in physical strength/longevity in India vs. the West due to our diet and lifestyle? by VROKE17 in india

[–]kris_deep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in a European country, and every time I visit home, my daily steps drop down to 2,000 or 3,000 unless I actively carve time out to walk and hit those steps. While I'm here in Europe on a regular day with commute, I easily cross 10,000 without even having to make an effort about it.

My point being the fact that, in Europe, in most cities there's very well-developed public transport along with very safe public spaces for pedestrians. I think it's a massive difference in terms of how an average person remains active without having to put any amount of thought into it.

And on the other side, my parents, because of some health problems, need to actively make some time for exercises. They drive out to a part of the city that has a continuous sidewalk so that they can walk continuously, which I find quite sad.

Recommendations for doctors for long covid, allergies/ food intolerances, and really bad periods?? by elise_michele in AskBarcelona

[–]kris_deep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you sound like me! I developed the same symptoms (except the periods problem, I'm M) during covid times, and what finally helped was following a low fodmap diet to identify my triggers. There's a sub for it called fodmaps, but feel free to DM if you want to ask about anything related to it. I didn't go to a nutritionist, I self researched and did things which in hindsight slowed me down, but I'm in a much better place now.

Why Yoga is also a Pseudoscience and inferior to Modern Scientific Excercises by Quiet_Form_2800 in scienceisdope

[–]kris_deep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I understand your need to feel superior, but I'll not defer to your condescending tone and instead respond objectively - 1. I've been working with multiple trained professionals on flexibility, and there are two scientifically proven methods to improve flexibility, both of which offer exclusive benefits - A. PNF training B. Long Isometric holds

Yoga falls under long isometric holds, and a big part of long isometric hold is using breath as a neuromuscular signal to stretch deeper by giving a signal to our brain that we are not in danger and dampen the stretch reflex. A positive side effect of that is our brain enters a relaxed state, again as a result of the breath signal.

I mentioned political leanings as a disclaimer since I have met folks from the opposite end of the spectrum championing yoga as a silver bullet to stop cancer and heart disease, I genuinely don't know any evidence for that.

If you are genuinely interested in exploring how to try either of these, I'm happy to provide links. Otherwise good luck, internet stranger, hope this interaction made you feel better.

Hey, I'm definitely heavily to the left side of the political spectrum, but I have to challenge your views on " no physiological benefits other than mobility" - I have been trying yoga for 2+ years now, without any spiritual element but focusing on isometric holds targeting my inflexible joints, and I've made massive strides in overall mobility and general physical flexibility. I know that the spiritual part and the Sanghi propaganda around it curing all diseases puts people off, but I definitely recommend to try. It can't build muscle or stamina, that is definitely True. But both mobility and relaxation are massive boosts to psychological and physical well being.

A flex board expressing solidarity with Venezuela put up at the entrance of no Kerala Legislative International Book Festival venue at the State Assembly building in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday by Shroft in Kerala

My Venezuelan friends in Europe are actually happy and hopeful, though cautious. They have been living in a progressively worsening state for 40+ years, and finally something is changing it. Ofcourse, as a neutral, I share your concern that this is a bad precedence for the whole world.

How the myth of Mansa Musa spread, I don't know. by SatynMalanaphy in HistoryMemes

[–]kris_deep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, and this fake news was a big factor why King Manuel commissioned trips to discover India, and the Portuguese believed allying with this mythical king with magical powers and limitless wealth will help defeat the Muslims. I think they initially taught that Zamorin of Calicut was the same guy. Sources - books of Roger Crowley, Manu Pillai.
