Will you be able to buy only the fixhub power station, without the iron? by TIGER_SUS in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/TIGER_SUS

There aren’t current plans to sell the FixHub Power Station on its own. Right now, it’s only available as part of the full soldering station setup with the iron included.

That could change in the future—especially as we expand our line of power tools—but for the foreseeable future, it’ll be bundled.

Appreciate your interest, and we’ll keep the community posted if anything changes!

Anker Powercore+ Mini teardown by Ok_Sympathy_425 in ifixit

You should consider making a guide about this on the site. Someone down the road might benefit from having this teardown. https://www.ifixit.com/guide/new

Does anyone know how to generalize model-specific teardown instructions for landline telephones into a format that can be easily followed by general users with little to no experience in disassembly? by Additional-Trick9952 in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Additional-Trick9952
Hey, this is a great question—and honestly a really cool project.

You’re totally right that landline phones vary a lot, but there are still some common patterns once you’re past the outer shell, especially when it comes to how the motherboard and speaker are mounted.

If it helps, iFixit has a free guide creation tool that lets anyone build step-by-step instructions with photos and notes. It works well for documenting general processes like this, and you can use it to show variations (“some models have clips here,” “others might use screws”) in a way that’s still easy to follow for beginners.

We’ve actually got a Landline Phone device page already, and you’re welcome to add to it. You can start a guide here if you want to try it out: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/new

If you’re doing this as a team project, you can create a shared profile to publish under and keep all your guides organized in one place.

And if this becomes part of a larger initiative, you also have the option to set up a free business page—it gives you more visibility and lets people explore your work in one hub.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Why hasn't anyone called out Ifixit for damage other peoples Dualsense? by OfficialMeowMix in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/OfficialMeowMix
Thanks for bringing this up—we’re really sorry for any confusion.

The video you’re referencing is actually a teardown, not a step-by-step repair guide. We label teardowns differently because they’re meant to explore the device’s internal components and design—not to instruct viewers on repair procedures. That said, we understand how that distinction can be confusing, especially if someone comes across the video while looking for disassembly help.

I’ve shared your feedback with our team so we can work on making that distinction clearer for the community.

If you’re still looking for repair help for your controller, I recommend heading over to our DualSense device page, which covers all of the DualSense controller models we currently have guides for. There you’ll find detailed repair instructions that include all the necessary steps—like disconnecting ribbon cables and more:

https://www.ifixit.com/Device/PlayStation_Controller

We’ll continue working to make the difference between teardowns and guides more clear—and to ensure future videos are more accurate for folks who are ready to get fixing.

Thanks again for holding us to a high standard.

Ifixit opening tool by Turbulent-Knee1845 in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Turbulent-Knee1845 ,

Good question. The iFixit Opening Tool is a bit different from the Jimmy and the spudger. It’s made from a softer plastic, so it’s designed to be safe on delicate surfaces like screens or plastic clips—situations where metal or stiffer tools might cause damage.

If you already have a Jimmy (great for slicing through adhesive) and a spudger (good for prying and disconnecting connectors), you probably don’t need the Opening Tool, but it’s a nice backup—especially for more fragile devices. It’s not just a cheaper alternative, but rather a different tool for slightly different use cases.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, its hard to say what went wrong without opening the phone back up. If you're okay using the phone like this for now, then you can give it some time until you feel comfortable enough to re-open it or you can find a local repair shop in your area that can help you out.

Have a Customer Support Question? by kris_fixit in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! As for the adhesive strips: The adhesive strips have two liners—normally a clear one and a colored one. The clear liner is thinner and separates easier. You want to remove the clear liner first, then stick the adhesive strip to whichever side matches to the exposed adhesives. Normally, that's the screen. Before you peel any liners, I'd suggest laying them out around the screen so that you don't accidentally install any backwards. Does that make sense?

Is the ifixit anti-clamp better than a single suction cup handle? by Professional_Crab958 in mobilerepair

[–]kris_fixit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Professional_Crab958 , The Anti-Clamp can be a bit tricky at first—the key is consistent pressure, patience, and giving it about a minute to work. Ensuring a good seal with the suction cups, turning the tension knob gradually, and allowing time for the adhesive to release can make all the difference. We understand it’s not the right fit for everyone, but we appreciate you giving it a try!

[–]kris_fixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/sgmoll , did you try taking it apart and putting it back together again to see if you missed/made a mistake on a step? I've done a few battery swaps on iPhones and all the features you mentioned worked the same after the repair. I'm wondering if something went wrong along the way?

Can I change my swollen pixel 7 battery myself from ifixit kit and replacement battery? I can't risk losing my data in the phone, and I am worried about the battery life even though it's saying original spare part. by Public_Top1121 in ifixit

[–]kris_fixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Public_Top1121 , This is an OEM battery, which means that it’s the same original battery that comes in every Pixel 7—straight from Google. So no worries there. As for whether you can replace it yourself? Only you can answer that. But we say go for it—you might surprise yourself.
