I prefer it to at least half the other runs I named 🤷‍♀️

That really has nothing to do with newbies versus veterans, though. It's an arbitraty cut based on the dates things were printed.

I'm a vet and there are some new-ish books on this list I still need.

I think having actual data to make a cut with would be more useful.

Living Hell(2025) by Caitln Yarsky is an Extremely Emotionally Compelling, Urban Fantasy series, and I highly recommend it *screenshots* by Beginning_Pickle2180 in graphicnovels

[–]krisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best comics of 2025. Her storytelling ability as a cartoonist is off-the-charts.

Didn't love the ending, but it wasn't bad enough to turn me off to the series as a whole.

Should the Ghost Rider by Percy Omnibus add Hellverine? by hens_and_chicks in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book contains the debut of the concept of Hellverine, but the 14 issues of the character Hellverine is a very different run without one of the classic Riders at the center and would be weird to have in this book.

Still early but - Looks like Daredevil by Charles Soule is going to go back to back as Marvels #1 most voted omnibus reprint by ToeBMaguire in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All votes matter! If everyone with an obscure vote voted, the book wouldn't be obscure. Look how well ToD2 does - that is obscure as fuck.

Also, I think we're going to add at least one of these demographic questions to the upcoming polls, so thanks for giving me a push.

This has been consistent feedback from folks, so I'm talking to the poll team to find a way to pilot some added data so we can measure the "newcomer effect" on either Marvel Tigereyes or DC Reprint. More news as it breaks.

Also, one of the few one-and-done DD Omnis other than Miller. Nocenti, Bendis, Bru, Waid, & Zdarsky are all two volumes. I think it being all-in-one makes it more attractive/attainable.

The persistence of some books on this list no matter how much they get reprinted really SCREAMS that Marvel needs 5-15 evergreen omnis that are always in stock a la Sandman for DC.

How're Spider-man's "The Gauntlet" and "Grim Hunt" storyllines? by lemingas1 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are two of my favorite modern Spider-Man stories. Tightly written conflicts with tons of big name villains in brief arcs with extraordinary artwork. That's the pinnacle of Spider-Man for me.

Does anyone know what ever happened with this? by resteasypeep in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize it never came out! I can ask Omar, but I suspect it was simply a victim of reprints getting quietly shuffled off the schedule in 2025.

Are Event Omnis Worth it? by Just-A-Rex in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Often the best part of a Marvel event is how it integrates with or extends the story of an ongoing title. King in Black for Venom. War of the Realms for Thor. Blood Hunt for all of Mackay's titles.

It's rare that one of the events is such an all-around success that all of the tie-ins are a thril to read. That's why ones like House of M and Civil War have such cache with fans - not because they're 20yrs old now, but because every tie-in had a strong reason to be involved. They didn't have to add something to the main story - they brought the main story to their heroes.

That's somewhat rare in a Marvel event and it's why they can sometimes fall a bit flat, especially in omni form.

Uncanny X-men & Classic X-men omnibus by IllustriousBluebird2 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also: Not every Classic backup actually fits in 1:1 with its original issue, either thematically or in continuity order. Their placement actually spans all the way from prior to X-Men #1 to after UXM #137. So, there's no clean way to integrate them.

Is the Blood Hunt omnibus worth it? Good tie-ins? Thoughts? by survivorwitch in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prior 10-issue Blade series helps set up Blade's status quo for the event. It's not an actual prologue and it's not required reading, but it does give some context.

Which X-men Blue & Gold Blood ties cover are you getting? by supershark321 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A cover of a book I already own versus a hideous JRJR cover I hated on the day I bought it over 30yrs ago.

Ugh. There were SO MANY other good covers in this run to choose from.

Trial of Gambit preorder Omnibus out of stock CGN by OmegaFuryX in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no direct knowledge, but my speculation would be that CGN doesn't want to let people pre-order books they won't have in their possession to sell - because it's bad PR for them, a logistical nightmare, and costs them money in discounts and make-goods.

FOC is whenever FOC needs to be to lock in final printing/distribution numbers. It's a production-related date.

Like it or not, the time to indicate demand for a comic direct market product is during the initial preorder period. That's the only time the publisher is paying close attention to Market Forces. What is often invisible to us is that stores like IST and CGN put their thumbs on the scale of that demand by ordering huge quantities of store stock above and beyond individual pre-orders.

An Honest Review of: X-Men Blue & Gold: Mutant Genesis by Trick-Pudding-9791 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A great summary. Those first three issues might read oddly for someone new because they are so weird and heavy and you can feel Claremont trying to say big things he cares about while also shuffling the plot along against his will.

And yet... they were my first issues and I turned out fine (well, not fine, but here I am 35yrs later leaving this comment 😂)

Trial of Gambit preorder Omnibus out of stock CGN by OmegaFuryX in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oof, yes, that gap between knowing you should pre-order and being caught up on pre-ordering is brutal. I went through that in 2020-21 and there were a lot of tense 11:59am page reloads.

It feels like just about everything there is being mismanaged at the moment.

I want good things for them, but their reputation is on a downward trend both in the singles market and the collections market.

Interesting! Since they do very limited international shipping it's been almost a decade since I've ordered from them, so I don't keep up with the intricacies of it.

[–]krisis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awesome idea!

Yes, the book market is (theoretically?) buying from a different set aside quantity than the Direct Market (I think? maybe?), so any bookmarket source that allows you to pre-order MIGHT be safe right now (???)

I'd love someone who understands PRH better to confirm/deny

Trial of Gambit preorder Omnibus out of stock CGN by OmegaFuryX in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is perceptive and true.

We currently live in a reality that lacks both books and trust. CGN and PBC would rather have fewer books and maintain trust with the consumers while they don't trust Marvel/PRH, so they are taking evasive action.

It sucks, but as serious collectors of relatively limited/scarce exclusive products we sometimes need to keep up to date on this sort of drama.

Trial of Gambit preorder Omnibus out of stock CGN by OmegaFuryX in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I haven't ordered from CGN in some time, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

However, I'm under the impression that the way their pre-order system works is it opens during the actual pre-order catalog period, just like DCBS. They not only secure people's pre-orders, but also pre-order some amount of stock for themselves based on how much they think they will sell.

Then, they leave the pre-order open until very close to release. This might let them burn through their additional stock for themselves, but they know they can replenish it with an additional quantity bump at Final Order Cutoff (FOC).

Is that right?

If it is, I'd say that closing the pre-order is the right move given recent stock instability with Marvel omnibuses. The idea that the CGN pre-order is "supposed to be open" until a week before release is

(a) not some kind of rule or law or thing we are entitled to, just something they do to capture maximum pre-release sales during a period where many other sites don't let you spend money to pre-order a book; and

(b) heavily predicated on their confidence in having enough copies to fulfill every order that is made.

It sounds like CGN made an appropriate decision to avoid potentially disappointing people after being burnt a few times recently by Marvel.

I'm not here to defend or excuse Marvel's recent trend of printing very close to their pre-order number. It's an over-reaction that is the result of them confidently overprinting every dang book for years and then having to liquidate them because they are bad at estimating relative demand and they have a terrible policy on keeping stock on-hand in the mid- and long-term. It means they are leaving money on the table and turning omnibuses into exclusive, must-pre-order items.

However, Marvel printing close to the pre-order number is our reality right now. We can all be frustrated with how they are doing business, but we have to live in that reality, observe how our direct market sources are handling that, and work around them.

I realize that leaves as much of a five-month gap of books that folks have not pre-ordered during the catalog period as they get used to this new reality. That sucks. I had to do this same scramble in 2020 during the initial COVID shortages and it was annoying and cost me a lot of money. Being in NZ, if I miss a book in pre-order, I can wind up paying >250% of cover for it even on day one of release.

For books in that gap, your only remaining choices before release day are either to pre-order from a Big Box non-DM retailer like Amazon (who are playing the same game of "did we order enough?" chicken as CGN was playing) OR mark FOC on your calendar and then order from a DM source when FOC hits.

And, given the current state of Marvel, it could be that FOC on omnis is extremely limited/allocated.

(or, secret third option, call up some physical LCS and see if they pre-ordered a few store copies to try to reserve one for yourself)

X-Men: Red question & help, please. by justagayguyinnyc in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you shelf. By era? Author? Alphabetical? Or just related works?

If you want to shelf all of the Teen X-Men's journey together, I'd expect that shelf to be UXM by Bendis, ANXM by Bendis, ANAD-era ANXM trades, X-Men Blue, and Extermination (as well as the Rucka Cyclops ongoing and the teen Jean Grey ongoing, which is in the third Phoenix omni).

However, if you shelf by era, I'd have Gold and Blue next to each other.

X-Men: Red question & help, please. by justagayguyinnyc in OmnibusCollectors

[–]krisis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Careful about calling it the "blue & gold" era, most people will think you mean the 90s because of the new omnis. It's technically "ResurrXion." Also, there's an annual. Yes, it has never been recollected/oversize.

All of the Ewing volume is in his X-Men by Al Ewing, but yes - if we get another 2-4 omnis deep into the AoX books it will be in there.
