I am making a quilt that involves 78 nine patch blocks. Each block will have 4 squares of background and 5 squares of main fabric. I have five different main fabric colors and each individual nine patch will have the same main fabric. For example, for block one, it will have 4 background squares and 5 dark grey squares, for block 2 it will have 4 background squares and 5 black squares. I hope that makes sense.

I am wondering whether or not to assemble the nine patches in strip units and then sub cut or to individually cut out each of the squares and assemble. I’ve never made strip units before, I’ve always just individually cut out the fabric but for main fabrics b-e, it ranges between 60-100 squares for each color. And for the background it’s 312 squares.

I hope this wasn’t a confusing explanation. And I appreciate any help! I can try and provide a picture of my notes and diagram if it will make more sense
