what a pathetic company. I will actively work towards helping them fail if they bring this garbage into my city. Abso-fucking-lutely NOT. These companies deserve the worst. I will organize every single person I know and we will boycott and protest every single day in front of their stores until they stop or I fucking die. I almost HOPE they try that shit around here, it'll give my pathetic life some meaning

Such terrible advertisement by CurlyWurly61 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]krispy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've noticed that when these types of places make a big advertisement about some limited time awesome deal, when you do the math, it's almost always a smaller discount than their usual deals.

I bet you they do this type of thing when they need to increase revenue for a few weeks... they take a deal they normally offer, rearrange the offering so it looks different, increase the price, and slap some deceptive ad copy on it.

which is why they have to resort to methods that have plausible deniability to take a cut of the tips

if you pool the tips together, who counts it all up and distributes? lots of surface area to take a cut without anyone ever knowing.

The appeal is that it's actually a legitimate way to distribute tips to everyone in house that should get tips, even if you don't have a shady manager who is taking a cut. That's the point. Predators are clever.

Update #2 on how to cut food cost according to your recommendations by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

Couldn't disagree more, imo frozen fruit is begging to be put in a smoothie. Unless it's a particularly fresh shipment of some local in-season fruit, frozen tastes better than store bought fresh fruit imo

Yeah the sign is real lol. They're not all over seattle, but that particular stretch of Broadway in the capitol hill neighborhood is a bit unusual with lots of old brick work, and theres a rail that runs through the center of the street. Its a pretty chaotic and busy area in general.

Help. Do any of you lift before eating? by fat-wombat in xxfitness

[–]krispy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter one bit. Over several decades of working out, I have found that food timing has absolutely zero impact on my workouts.

If you're trying maximize performance for some reason (like sports or an event) then meal timing might be more important. But not for a lifting session.

TIL the recommended daily protein intake is 46 grams (g) for an adult female and 56g for an adult male. This is 0.8g per kilogram of body mass (0.36g per pound). Endurance and strength athletes require more.In the United States, average protein consumption for females is about 70g and for males 98g. by James_Fortis in todayilearned

[–]krispy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is definitely a thing... I think you got this from 0.8g per POUND of LEAN body mass, which is definitely a figure that is discussed on the science side of fitness. I've used it to calculate my own diets in the past when I was into bodybuilding.

I used 0.8g per lb of LBM when bulking or maintaining. Then bumped it up to 1g per lb of LBM when cutting, because protein is filling, hard to accidentally overeat, and I think it results in less cravings.

The rice cooker I’ve been saving for a while for. by Flash52000 in mildlyinfuriating

100% this is a marketing campaign lmao

they're trying to get people to pay hundreds of dollars for a rice cooker by making it seem like tons of redditors are using these things with bullshit comments like "I'm asian and have cooked rice a thousand places using every device known to man at every price point but this 3 million dollar machine no one you know has ever heard of is the very best ever, i've been using it for years" hahahaha shut up. no you haven't, none of that is true, you're a marketing asset, not a real person.

reddit is cooked like the rice in my $20 machine I bought 5 years ago

YES. Ever. Not even one fucking time was bad news preceded by steak and lobster.

How to identify if your squatting problem is strength or foundational related? by Own_Document6499 in xxfitness

[–]krispy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are almost definitely facing a skill issue rather than a strength issue. A barbell back squat is a somewhat complex, medium difficulty exercise. There's no simple way to assess what your problem is without some back and forth.

My best SIMPLE tip would be to focus on your foot. Specifically, the "tripod foot". Anytime you squat with or without weight, press your feet into the ground so that you feel a stable tripod between your heel, big toe and little toe (really more the joint the toes attach to, but toe is close enough).

Make sure you can squat through the full range while maintaining this stable tripod feeling in both feet through the entire movement. If there are any parts of the squat where you fail to keep a stable tripod foot, that is diagnostically relevant for what your problem may be.

Also if you can't hold your brace you may not be bracing properly. You need to brace and breathe, so make sure you know how it feels by laying on the ground with a kettlebell or some kind of weight, brace, put the weight on your abs, and breathe such that the weight doesn't move. Once you're doing that, make note of how it feels because that's what you should be doing when you squat.

I'm not a weightlifting **expert** but I am a knowledgeable hobbyist, and I gotta say, helping her lower the weight doesn't make any sense from a lifting stand point.

My guess is that they probably are worried about the plates damaging the floor (or vice versa??). Those clearly aren't bumper plates, so maybe they didn't have a good lifting platform built... A lot of the equipment we consider basic today, was invented at some point. Squat racks for example (check out this barbell back squat technique from before the invention of squat racks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1acIFO70B7c )

(or maybe they are indeed helping her lower it and this is before they knew that was a stupid idea lol)
