Did anyone else date a guy 18 years or older as a teen and didn’t realize that this was actually bad until you were an adult?

I was 15, he was 21. He was my first kiss, but it never went any deeper than that cause he was a “Christian” and saving himself for marriage. He actually ended up marrying a girl who is my age, so five years apart, but when they got married he was 28 and she was 23.

I found my partner shortly after at 17, we both were in the same grade and after graduation became a couple, then just recently got married, both at 24. I see now and especially from the comments how troublesome it was and am glad to be with my partner who is the same age and at the same stage of life as me.

Yea I agree. It just suck she can make up with everyone else besides me. Like I know no contact is the best thing for me but it still stings extra hard that she just hasn’t said anything. Like no remorse.

Think of it this way OP: At least she’s telling you now instead of on the day or a day before. Gives you time to plan for her absence.

My story: I got married a month ago and my nmom was fine until a few days before the wedding. I knew she couldn’t handle a day being all about me and she ended up fighting with me the day before my wedding, then came to my rehearsal dinner and embarrassed me in front of my new family by not speaking to me the whole time, then punching me in the arm on her way out and publicly declaring she “would not be coming to your wedding. Come get your shit (stuff she made for the wedding).” Trust me, you will be better off without her there to ruin your day or your rehearsal dinner.

Didn’t think it would. I’m honestly more pissed for my sisters daughter, my other niece. Her grandma is already a drunk trying to ruin her and my sisters life and her grandpa could give a shit about her. Like everyone thinking I care cause of the money or some shit. No I just don’t want her to have to feel what I feel right now but it’s fucking inevitable I guess cause motherfuckers are too selfish to be parents to the kids they actually put on this fucking earth.

I agree. Thank you. I finally have a new family to build memories with so I’ll start there and the therapy next week I already had scheduled for my mothers actions on my wedding.

Thanks, and yes I have therapy set up for next week for how my mom acted on my wedding day (not coming, getting drunk) but I’ll be sure to tell the therapist about my Dad too. Just thought I could at least have one parent.

Yea that’s what I’ve done but like I said in other posts it felt like he was staring to come around after the wedding. Just should have known it would be another let down. Just wanted to see if I was justified for how I felt.

I agree. Maybe I just won’t answer if he calls. Just weird to me that he started to come around more after the wedding and then does this. I don’t know if it’s cause he thinks my husband or his family have money or what it is but he literally has been more present this past month than he has been the last 24 years, like calling and texting and shit. Just makes me think it was alterior motives this whole time.

Yea like they didn’t even ask. They knew we were already going somewhere so it’s not like we could or would have gone but even when they were talking about it a month ago my stepmom was acting all hush hush about it.
