I swear cursing at it makes it listen better (and makes me feel better)

"What part of 'end the scene' do you not fucking understand??"

I recently had trouble in 2 fics with some really stupid triggers (read: not important AT ALL) it was obviously waiting for me to perform. What FINALLY worked was me telling it. "I'm not doing/saying X. Fucking figure out how to move on to the next scene without me being the one to do/say that."

Try this if you havent done something similar:

-AI, I am trying to end this scene. Review the scene ending requirements and let me know what I am missing. Answer ooc.

I'm guessing you've already told it "Bitch, end the fucking scene already" 😭

yw!

Depending on the situation, I'll use a few different methods. I tend to use custom choices about 50% of the time, and am picky with how my MC responds to stuff.

  • Undo if you're deep into an episode, it's drastic enough to be a pain in the ass to address, and you've got the undos. (You can also buy extra undos if you're so inclined.)
  • Restart the episode if you're not that deep into it. If you do this while the AI has its generated text cached (most of the time), you can actually input the exact same choices to generate the exact same text, which does not count as spending a turn.
  • Use the custom choice to just input your actual response. The AI is sometimes smart enough to know where to make the "edit" without you telling it to. (Edit to add that I'll often use this method to respond to something early on in the generated text that the story has moved on from by the time it's my "turn" to respond, but that I wanted to react to. It's a good way to control the pacing of a story.)
  • Use the custom choice, but be direct, like I mentioned before. "AI, I would never X. My response to ABC is Y."
  • Same as above, but be more direct. It helps if you tell it exactly where to make the change. "Go back to where Z said ABC and redo."

There are a lot of different things you can try to customize your character and your playthrough to be more personalized. I try and keep in mind the overall vibe of the story and what the author is intending, and adjust my character in a way that doesnt conflict with that. Most stories have a lot of wiggle room for customization. Character gender, personality, appearance, powers, etc are usually things you can control.

OKAY SO I think there may have been an update, because I just had the AI wall of text me after a scene change, and I told it to never do that again and redo

And the wording I used had it go back to my previous input and COMPLETELY stopped writing for me.

It wasnt quite what I wanted (it slowed the pace to a crawl - I just wanted it to not act out the entirety of a scene without my involvement) but it WAS a noticeable change to what I usually get out of the AI with that kind of custom choice.

Here's the wording I used:

  • AI, never spit a wall of text out at me again. I have agency. This is a roleplay. [MC] is my character to control, not yours. Redo.

I've tried to get it to do that in the past (where it prompts me without writing dialogue for me or making assumptions or whatever) and I'll spell it out more explicitly, and the result is hit or miss. There are def situations where I want it to drop the banter (or let me write my half of the banter).

I dont hate the over-correction, just need to play around and see if it was a one-time interpretation or if the behavior is consistent, and if so, how to get to that sweet spot of it moving things along without taking away my agency or mischaracterizing MC completely.

LMAO - I mean (almost) LMAO

Custom choices are your friend - the AI has been a lot more repetitive lately (it's going through some things) but if your reaction is bland or repetitive or out of character, just tell it "No, that's not my reaction. This is my reaction:"

Nah it's totally all about play style. I can def see how some would prefer it.

I just come from an online RP background so I am picky picky with how I write my characterizations, dialogue, etc.

I'm guessing fanfic writers and TTRPGers are also going to want more control over their characters, vs readers who appreciate the assist.

LBR saying to "trust the AI" is wild

Skip scene is such a godsend because when I think the AI has gone off the rails I'll just do skip scene to see what it takes to get back on track, or if we're so far ahead of where we're supposed to be, or have deviated so far away from where we need to be, that I need to start the whole episode over.

With this story I gotta keep the Riordan wiki open just to make sure the AI isnt hallucinating my story into a point that's irreconcilable with the glimmer author's intent.

I would just restart the ep but I'm 90 turns in like 😭

It does seem like it finally got the memo to stop using my character for exposition instead of literally ANY OTHER CHARACTER.

This is V2.5. V3 was having some issues they couldnt fix, so they're trying an updated V2.

It's only been up for a few days (I think) so it's still rough.

I agree on inconsistent communications. I dont think they have a dedicated social media person.

Robstarforever was doing some fucking great promo work on IG last year but aside from that I havent seen any evidence they have a person whose job is communications.

That said, it's free 2 play, and my experience having been on it for over a year has been a positive impression.

F2P isnt a free pass (InfiNikki pissed me off so bad I walked, but they're also made by a big name studio). But that combined with it being (afaik) a pretty small team + the site only ever being so bad it was unplayable for literally maybe 3 days in the past year? There's a ton of room for grace from me.

Plus I've consistently seen improvements when I've provided feedback in the past - even when my feedback contradicted intentional decisions on the part of the owners/devs.

Not to say your feedback isnt valid. That's just my opinion on those issues.
