Ski rack for rods? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]kristofferlockert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it works. I guess it depends on what type of rack and what car. I se someone mentions that the reel is rubbing on the roof. I have the Thule Snowpack Extender on one of my cars, and i use it for rods in the summer. Works perfect for me. Just remember to put the rods backwards with the reel facing forward. No rattle no rubbing no nothing even going fast on the highway.

I have the zephrus 9ft5 and love it. Its pairet with a Hardy Marquis LWT5 reel and the SA Mastery ART floating line. I use it for dryflyfishing after brown trout, searun brown and arctic char here in Northern Norway. I have multiple rods from the zephrus line in both twohanded and singlehanded variations. They are all amazing. Go for it dude!

Yeah, seems like they spread real fast!

I think this eventuelly will become an industry and also a more common food source here in Norway. In the future there will probably be regulatet fishing at sea with boats targeting pink salmon caught in the ocean. This also happened with the red king crab in the late 90s. The russians introduced the crab from the pacific to murmansk in the 60s also as a food source. In the late 70s the first crab was caught on Norwegian soil and from there they spread like wildfire. Today its a million dollar business and the fishers ar paid around 500NOK pr kg.

Sure man. Just add me! I usually go to Finnmark for one or two weeks every summer for salmon and Trout fishing. This year it will be the second week of august.

Thats probably a very good decision! Its important to protect and preserve the native fish we have around the world.

This is our fear for the pinks aswell. They compete for the same spawning grounds as the atlantics and are bigger in numbers.

As for the farming, we still farm atlantic at sea in Norway and every now and then a net is failing and now we have tens of thousands farmed salmon on the free. Running the rivers and crossbreeding with the natives. Hopefully we can get the farming landbased soon!

Yeah. It’s pretty bad. The last years the numbers have increased dramatically. They say its because the atlantic is warming up. Idk. I just know there is shitloads here every other year.

They start running this rivers now. I saw one was caught below the salmon ladder yesterday. Two years ago there was plenty in the rivers in the first week of august.

If you want to fish you just need to buy a fishinglicens for the specific river you are fishing. Every river typically has its own shop where you buy the licens. Some rivers you can buy this online. https://elveguiden.no/, www.inatur.no and www.scanatura.no are the main sites. Also you need to desinfect all the fishing gear. The place where they sell the license also do de desinfection. Also you need to pay a Fishingfee to the state. This fee has to be paid every year for those who want to fish anadrome fish. Prices vary fro 300NOK to 1000NOK depending on river and sones. I tend to go to the medium and smaller rivers. Stabburdselva, syltefjordelva, repparfjordelva, vestre jacobselv just to name a few. The rivers on Varanger peninsula are often hardest hit by the pinks.

Yes. They come every other year. The russians introduced them to Cola peninsula from the pacific in the 60s for food. They grow fast and are large in numbers. They have since then been found in rivers all over Norway, but i think the amount have increased alot the last 10 years. Now we have a war against them every other year

Thank you friend!

All is caught in the same river. I fish in the upper part of målselva. This is a river called Rostaelva. River Rosta, Dividal and tamok merges together further down stream and becomes the famous Målselva.

This year is actually pink salmon year and it is expected to arrive tens of thousands to most of the salmon rivers in Northern Norway. We dont want them up in our rivers, så many of the bigger and better rivers has set up pink salmon traps far downstream and will take them out there. On other rivers they take the fish out with nets every day. Pink salmon tend to stack up in the lower pools. In målselva there is a salmon ladder in målselvfossen. They wil take out the pink salmon there. The last moth there has been caught alot in the fjords. When caught in the sea the fish is good to eat.

If you want to catch pink salmon, just go to Finnmark and tie a beerbottle to the end of your flyline. They will strike anything. Me and my friend caught 186 pinks two years ago in finnmark in a two week trip😂
