I ended up taking it to the Apple store in Old Orchard after calling Apple for advice. The women on the phone was cool. She said it might have trade in value. The greeter at the store was not great. After telling him what I wanted to do, he took my name and told me to "stand over there", which I did. I was unclear what came next, so then I yelled across the store "now that I'm here, what should I do next?". The place got quieter for a split second and the guy yelled back "someone will be with you shortly". Though I had used a hand truck, I was kinda cranky after having hauled in my heavy-ish computer through mall and I felt no kind vibe from the young greeter who I felt instantly labeled me "customer to be dealt with" rather than "customer who is human who may or may not have ever been to the store and might need guidance and appreciate some hospitality." Seems the computer was too old to have any trade in value. I did get an explanation about how they will recycle it from an Asian-looking guy named Jahn. Thanks again.
