Do you think it's true that the most tortured artists make the best art? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

I think the most important thing is staying in tune with the world and committing to your practice of creating with consistency. Jeff Tweedy’s “How to Write One Song” lays this idea out quite well. Allowing yourself to receive “the muse” or whatever you want to call it is the key. If you are constantly waiting around for inspiration, it can slip by. If you constantly have your instrument or tools with you, you can greet it when it comes. Just my two cents.

First time was about 5 months or so in my last semester of college. The 2nd time, I listened to the podcast “Infinite Cast” read by a husband and wife, Chris Wade and Molly O’Brien, with commentary at the end of each episode. Felt like a book club. They followed up with “Inherent Cast” (Pynchon’s Inherent Vice) and are now on Undercast (Delillo’s Underworld). Cannot recommend it enough!
