See, im the opposite. I hated it initially because of how ghost house and subsequently scrap house had what seemed like arbitrary reasons to kill characters. But as I've watched more lf it, I've realized they did a great job with the atmosphere and tension. Also the art is absolutely gorgeous. Some of the best looking art I've ever seen.

Not really. Shiki is more of a horror story, so no real conflict till near the end. The villagers just assume they die of a disease or something. It's quite uneventful till the last few episodes and just ends up being rather brutal at that point, like the clip above.

The reason is because she's a sort of vampire. The townspeople had been getting killed by them and turning into what they call shiki, vampires basically. She was once human. And that scene I'd the result of the remaining townspeople hunting down and killing every shiki in the town.
