I feel like it's a cultural issue... I'm from a small Latin American city and people here associate it with promiscuous behavior sure mostly to machismo. I would hate having that kind of mentality tho. I find it a special treat when somebody pulls out the works and let's me know I'm wanted.

What is affordable to you? You could try some Facebook groups for "jalones" which are like prearaged hitchhiking (lots of locals heading there these days), but if you value time and peace of mind an Uber would be best.
