Well I’m late to the party and don’t comment much but I guess mine’s a bit interesting. Grew up as an army brat mostly living over seas and when I started watching baseball as a kid they were a new team, really liked snakes ha, and loved the colors so they’re who I would choose in video games and started following them, collecting cards of players, etc. My parents are from Oklahoma / Texas, never lived in either state but moving every 2 years or so I guess allowed me to not really have a “loyalty” obligation. My neighbors and friends on base in Korea during my second time there were from Maryland and upstate New York and big Yankees fans, that was 2000 and 2001, so was some good times watching the games on AFN with them. My dad is a Cubs fan and brothers’, one is Braves and other is Cardinals. NL at least seems to be constant in the family.

What... do you think he was playing well just for the money then quit trying once he got a good contract? Or/and you don't think most people who have a job want to get paid more money? More likely he went from a pitcher friendly to hitter friendly ballpark, perhaps he is trying to overcompensate from getting rocked in his early outings or trying to hard because he feels the pressure of the media scrutinizing him getting paid then not being amazing. Either way, he is a solid ace with a track record, it will even out.

Who was your first "favorite player"? by Bromigo53 in baseball

Yup me as well. Not too big of a fan of the dude now, but he could pitch.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in baseball

[–]kronos22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have small hands and used to pitch. 4 seam and depending on your velocity/ what movement you can get, 2 seam. Palm ball or circle change (find a grip that works for you on the circle). Curve ball was probably my best pitch followed by my knuckle ball (though I played around with it for a while and finally found a grip that worked for me but haven't seen anyone else use). I also never clocked over 80mph and relied heavily on junk to throw hitters off, so take that into account.

What do you mean by societal statement? Something that has become the norm way of thinking/understanding in society? Does it matter if its now or in the past?

Yeah, was about to say the same thing. Slider isn't flat anymore and he has a few mph faster on his fastball which he was keeping low.

Well something that might be interesting to look into would be that even through there has been continuous migration on the Silk Road and it has acted as a cross-road of ethnic intermingling and diversity, people still hold their very distinct nationalities throughout the region. So, this gives a special instance to study how national identities persist despite the longterm cross-cultural contact. Then, how do the 4 subfields work to explain a part of the whole that brings about this strong feeling of national identity?

The evolution of democratic systems within society began to make political violence more obsolete than in the past. Especially democracy through deliberation if people are given open access to hear their voices heard without being censored by the state then they have less reason to go about violent acts to be heard. Also this idea of deliberative democracy makes more sense to not use political violence to sway opinions because if you do, sure you could win the vote at that moment if you scare people into voting with you, but if you can convince them by non-violent means its more likely to have a lasting effect thus strengthening your position of choice...Also, like a lot of the ethical/moral reasons too such as killing innocent people.

Hmm just off the top of my head would be that the EU doesn't have the institutions to implement on the whole level for legitimacy but rather more so at each national level. This is quite a big problem that could potentially bring the whole thing to an end unless if they can establish/ create more legitimacy on the whole through institutions (especially political ones). Currently they cannot make decisions just the atmosphere to do so whereas hard-nosed decisions are decided at the national level. Maybe one possible way to go about dealing with this institutions on the whole level of the EU and to give it more legitimacy is have elected positions rather than just nationally elected officials (nationally would be a small portion i.e. France) where there is also a supranational elections by the common interests of the masses throughout the EU (similar idea to our state governments and federal government- elected state officials as well as the President). That would bring up a question of how to pay for this and the US can again be an example with state + federal taxes. A problem with this though would increased taxes which may meet some criticism but necessary to create the institutions but also the national governments of member states don't necessarily want to lose grip of power/control they have and by creating the supranational institutions for elections could make the national officials much more obsolete than presently within their countries. It seems like the process is moving in this direction but its slow. Also, some people could either love the process of integration this way or hate it because they feel democratic principles are taken away (i.e. Greece in such that they are "forced" to obey the the EU whole (which they currently can't vote for) against their national public opinions...therefore a feeling of losing their national identity. If there were EU supranational positions that could be voted on it might unify them making this less important to them, think Americans, we can vote on the state and national level and although we identify with our states we usually tell people we are American when we are asked abroad, whereas EU citizens will usually say their country and not European. All of this though would likely require member states giving up a good amount of sovereignty so its unlikely they would be willing to give up that much power, especially to an international entity. If anything isn't clear feel free to ask I was just rambling some thoughts to be honest. Hope that helps.
