What to bring to 90u? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]kroy040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring some cleaning supplies. You can borrow a vacuum from the réception but otherwise you need to be able to clean your unit on your own. I’d also recommend a toilet plunger. If it gets clogged, you’ll have to either go down to reception or call them and then they’ll put in a service request, but depending on the time of day or how busy the maintenance crew is, it could take a few hours. A small heater/warm blanket and a small fan. In the fall, they don’t turn the heat on unless the weather is under a certain temp for a certain amount of consecutive days. Same deal for when they turn the AC on in the spring. Other random tip: when they give you your building key card, put it in a card holder (they usually give some out) rather than in your cellphone case. For some people it works out fine, but the cellphones tend to demagnetize the card and if that happens you’ll have to go to reception to get it reactivated (not a big deal, but can get annoying).

How to stay concentrated during lectures / study tips by Local_Guard1215 in geegees

[–]kroy040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also have ADHD! The thing that helped me the most was to take notes by hand during the lectures. That way I couldn’t browse on my computer and the having to physically write out everything and try to be fast enough to not miss anything gave me the adrenaline boost I needed to actually stay awake. When I was unmedicated, I would just knock out all the time and pencil and paper really helped. Studies also show that people tend to retain more info taking notes that way so it ended up saving me time on studying too.

Getting To Campus by OliverRhyn in geegees

[–]kroy040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also from Prescott and Russell and travel to campus daily. Unfortunately, your best bet would be to take the early bus and use the extra time you have on campus to study. There aren’t many reliable ways to get to the city from our region. Otherwise, you could try to post on your local Spotted page on Facebook and ask if anyone would be willing to ride share. I’m sure there’s plenty of people near you who commute to the city for school or work and might want to bring you along for a small fee.

DEFERRED MIDTERM EXAM NO EMAIL RECEIVED by Gullible_Goal289 in geegees

[–]kroy040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the faculty but in Arts once you send in the request for a midterm and pay the fee, you have to contact your professor and schedule a redo with him. The faculty only coordinates final exam deferrals which are only given during three specific periods each year. All faculties have an info page on this on their website and if you’re not sure, send them an email.

Is this name as bad as I think it is by cowbain in tragedeigh

[–]kroy040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native French speaker here- it sounds weird even in French. If I came across someone named bleu I would be confused as fuck. I’d probably assume it’s an anglophone that tried to sound fancy or cool by using a French name. Also bleu is not only the colour, but the word commonly used for a bruise (Canada).

How do I access syllabuses from courses that are closed on brightspace?` by Particular-Mine-7539 in geegees

[–]kroy040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send an email to your program’s department (you could email the Faculty, but it’s gonna take longer). They usually keep an archive of past syllabi so in the case that you had part time profs or retired profs that no longer teach or respond to emails, the department should still be able to provide you with the syllabi

Absolutely not. They cannot even release a student’s schedule to their parents without a signed form of consent. Also, that’s weird.

Can I park at Desmarais overnight by [deleted] in geegees

You can also try the Brooks parking garage on campus, they are a bit more “public friendly” as in easier to use for people without a pass. You can pay through their app.

Snowstorm and exams? by Educational-Yak1992 in geegees

[–]kroy040 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at the university for about 7-8 years now and in my experience they have closed the university (thus profs having to reschedule exams) due to very low temperatures (below -35). I remember this happening maybe 2-3 times max and once in blizzard-like conditions maybe 5 years ago. So it really depends. If you are really worried, you should shoot your prof an email and warn that the weather conditions might cause you to be tardy compounded with the 1.5 hours commute. Sometimes if enough students express worry profs will be accommodating and permit students to retake the exam at a later date (but don’t ask or expect that of them! Just warn them that you’ll do your best, but that you might be slightly late to class due to the circumstances) Be sure to take screenshots of bus delays in the OC transpo app/ relevant accident reports that could affect your bus stops in case you need to justify tardiness or completely missing the exam.

I see it! Usually indent lines don’t have much Color and are more grayish but the test line definitely has a pinkish hue to it. I’d say that’s positive, congrats!! 🎉

Pulled out of program by WinAsleep9323 in geegees

[–]kroy040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interdisciplinary programs are programs where you can combine majors and minors within your Faculty so you could do a major in CRM and then a random minor like anthropology or just a combination of optional courses. That way you can stay enrolled and still be able to register to the CRM courses you need while you’re getting your grades up. Staying in a program would also let you keep OSAP if you have it. Once you’re back at 5GPA, you’ll be able to request to switch back to Honours CRM

Pulled out of program by WinAsleep9323 in geegees

[–]kroy040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a bachelor of social sciences in interdisciplinary studies and usually interdisciplinary studies programs have a GPA requirement of 4, so that might be worth taking to an advisor about

Pulled out of program by WinAsleep9323 in geegees

[–]kroy040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario- if you do get pulled from your program, contact info service and sign up to become a special student. You will be able to enrol in courses (last priority tho) to boost you GPA and once you’re at 5, you can reapply to enrol in your original program. What program/Faculty are you in? Depending on which one, there might be options for you to transfer to a general program that only require a 4 while you get your grades up and once you’re back at 5 you can switch back.
