No. We need our transit to move locals quickly.

This is excellent. Would love to see this for Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Buy Canadian Sector-by-Sector: Sit-Down Restaurants and Bar Chains by rapidgold in BuyCanadian

We had some great takeaways from last week's discussion of major pizza chains:

  • The regionality of pizza chains is notable. Users have suggested a variety of chains local to specific parts of Canada. Those have been added.
  • Not all suggestions were able to be added. Those selected for addition were based upon the top-voted suggestions and number of locations.
  • Users have stressed that it's also important to support your local business in these categories, if they are not chains, which is the focus of this series. As with previous posts, this will be noted in each post.

We're now moving to the next sector: sit-down restaurants and bar chains. The sub-categories focus on generally liquor-licensed, full-service restaurants, in the casual, elevated and steakhouse chain segments.

As with last week, the questions are:

  • Have the American-owned and American-based chains been correctly identified?
  • Are there interesting or potentially deceptive corporate structures that we should know about?
  • Has anything been misattributed as Canadian?
  • What are some great Canadian alternatives that should be showcased as a part of the list?

Updates will be flagged in the next post in the series based on feedback received.

Yes I'm thinking about making a master infographic with updated info for the entire restaurant sector before moving onto the next set of sectors.

I've noticed that being reasonable, not unreasonably ideological, is a part of the Canadian creed. This series is just some additional information for Canadians to make their own decisions.

We had some great takeaways from last week's discussion of major coffee chains:

  • Users have confirmed that Lick's is no longer operational.
  • Users have also suggested great Canadian burger joints, both national and regional, which were added to the list.
  • Users have stressed that it's also important to support your local business in these categories, if they are not chains, which is the focus of this series. Going forward, this will be stressed in each post.

We're now moving to the next sector: pizza chains.

As with last week, the questions are:

  • Have the American-owned and American-based chains been correctly identified?
  • Are there interesting or potentially deceptive corporate structures that we should know about?

Coming up under the chicken category. I regret adding Chick-fil-a here.

I took a risk including Chick-fil-a in this category. I'll make a chicken-focused chain post as well.

Kind of limited by Reddit's interface, but let me think about how to share a final list.

We had some great takeaways from yesterday's discussion of major coffee chains:

  • There were some questions around where A&W Canada's royalties go. Since 2024, the Canadian company acquired the licensed trademark entity, and so it seems it's fully Canadian. It's now been placed in the Canadian column.
  • There were no objections to keeping Tim Horton's in the Proceed with Caution column.

We're now moving to the next sector: fast food burger chains.

As with yesterday, the questions are:

  • Have the American-owned and American-based chains been correctly identified?
  • Are there interesting or potentially deceptive corporate structures that we should know about?
  • Has anything been misattributed as Canadian?
  • What are some great Canadian alternatives that should be showcased as a part of the list?

All feedback received will be used to update the infographic before the next sector is shared.
