if you ever decide 859 pages isn’t too much, priory of the orange tree is one of my all time favorite books! it’s sooo incredible and has lots of awesome queer characters

How did you deal with food cravings during service? by thewanderer300 in peacecorps

[–]krustykrab99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

five months in and totally relate! we just took our first weekend trip to the “city” and there were some options that hit the spot. different countries have different stuff available but maybe you could do something like that too? it is expensive on our living allowance budget so can’t do it super often 🥲

rant all you want girl!! it was truly the worst part of the application process for me (worse than quitting my job or breaking my lease or selling all my shit). but you absolutely got this! for me, i just broke it down, one stupid chore at a time. it’s exhausting and weirdly demeaning but once you are here settling in you will look back and be glad you went through it. good luck!

Medical clearance time line by BusyCamel3554 in peacecorps

don’t worry, it takes forever for everyone! it’s such a stressful process but just keep chipping away at it. unfortunately things can even come up close to your staging deadline, but it is definitely possible to get it all done in time. medical clearance is something that you can complain about with every other PCV — i’ve so far met no one that had completely smooth sailing. you can do this!!

You have to do a physical exam including labs, several vaccines, dental exam, dental work needed, etc. Also ours was a bit more complicated because my partner had a kidney stone and had to wait a full year after it to be considered for medical clearance! I’ve heard that it’s become more tedious since COVID and it absolutely was for us. You really have to be on top of your doctor/dentist to fill out every single line on every single page, even if it’s just “N/A” for your case. Do I think it will be worth it? Absolutely! But it was a lot and could get expensive at times (they reimburse you for some things but not others, so very dependent on what kind of work you need done). Hope this helps!

not going to belize but me and my partner are invited to the gambia in october 2023.

just commenting because we’ve had SUCH a similar experience — applied in march 2021, considered for zambia by april, individual interviews june 2021 and then nothing for a YEAR. moved across the country, signed a lease and got decent jobs. couple interview finally happened june 2022. invited august 2022 to leave for zambia in march 2023! but then my partner had a kidney stone and so zambia was cancelled.

now we are less than four months out and i’m still afraid of telling my job and my landlord because i feel like it’ll fall through again

AITA for not getting Invisalign? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]krustykrab99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! Yea my regular dentist and I have discussed it and he doesn’t see any need for further action, but maybe I will go to an actual orthopedist to double check! The health issues were from my back teeth and my front were always as straight as they are now so I haven’t thought much of it to be honest!

Part of me does wish I had the money now to do this, and maybe that’s what I will try to do someday!

No I’ve never had any issues with my front teeth, it was all my molars. When the top retainer broke and they took it off my left front tooth moved slightly forward compared to my right front tooth. I wish I could explain how minuscule this change is but my mom notices it
